Where are we and where are we headed? Referring to the present time, Jesus announced, "You will begin also to hear battles (about battles) [That's where we're at right now], and then («και» – here indicates the result of previous actions) the sounds of battles [And we are heading in that direction. The current regional battles will turn into a major war. However, there will be no direct confrontation between Russia and the United States. So strategic nuclear weapons will not be used now]. See! Do not be alarmed! Must for all come to pass, [which was spoken by the prophets], but it is not yet the fulfillment [of the sign = the global nuclear war]." (Matthew 24:6)
Wars have always been around. And that’s certainly not what Jesus wanted to tell us. The earlier wars (among others WW1, WW2) did not carry the risk of turning into a sign of Jesus recorded in Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21:10, 11.
Jesus is talking about one war that some have already called WW3. This war will not escalate into a global nuclear war. This is the scenario of a great war that will precede the fulfillment of the sign, "for these things [World War III military operations] must first come to pass." (Luke 21:9, KJV)
Jesus was referring here to the prediction of Daniel which says, "At the appointed time [the king of the north] will return back." (Daniel 11:29a) This, in this context, means a major war. This war will not escalate into a global nuclear war. Russia will definitely not attack the US now, and the US will not allow itself to be drawn into direct war with Russia. Russian garrisons will return to where they were previously stationed. The EU and NATO will break up.
The global nuclear war, (this will be the fulfillment of the sign of Jesus), will begin as a result of ethnic conflict, "for nation will rise against nation", like as in 2008 in Georgia. (Matthew 24:7a) And this will happen only after the return of "the king of the north". (Daniel 11:29, 30a)
This time it will be a world war not only by name. Peace will be taken from the earth. It will be a mutual slaughter and "short sword of great power" will be used. (Revelation 6:4)
Jesus characterized it in this way: "a frightening things both and extraordinary [related to unusual phenomena] from sky powerful will be." (Luke 21:11)
For this reason, there will be significant tremors along the length and breadth of the regions [of strategic importance] and famines, and pestilences.
Some ancient manuscripts contain the words: "και χειμωνες" - "and frosts".
The Aramaic Peshitta: "וסתוא רורבא נהוון" - "and will be great frosts". (Luke 21:11) We call this today "nuclear winter".
In Mark 13:8 there are also words of Jesus: "και ταραχαι" - "and disorders" (lack of public order).
The Aramaic Peshitta: "ושגושיא" - "and confusion" (on the state of public order).
This sign fits only one war. It will not be Armageddon. "All these are only the beginning of the labor pains." (Matthew 24:8, NCB; cf. Isaiah 5:24, 25)
It will not happen shortly, but in a sudden manner [εν ταχει]. (Revelation 1:1) "Surely, I'm coming suddenly." (Revelation 22:20)
"And when you hear of battles, and then the commotions of war, do not be terrified; for these must first happen, but the fulfillment [of the sign] not immediately." (Luke 21:9)
This is a WW3 scenario. It won't be a global nuclear war.
