US and Iran reach framework peace deal | Ian Bremmer's Quick Take
Video Overview & Insights
In his latest Quick Take, Ian Bremmer says the US and Iran’s memorandum of understanding to end the fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz marks progress, but warns it falls far short of resolving the broader conflict.
Quite sure we were told over and over it "was not a war".

Israel had miscalculated and thought an eradication of the iranian regime would decimate the country, they only dug in. What appeared to be a quick month plan was turning into another forever war. Intel is shifting its focus to US backyard and putting middle east in the peripheral, explains our growing relationship with other Persian Gulf countries and growing dissonance in congress on israeli affairs
Ian explains that while markets are responding positively, key details of the agreement remain unclear, with Washington and Tehran offering competing accounts of what was actually negotiated. He cautions that “there’s plenty of ways for this to get derailed.”
Ian argues that reopening the Strait is a critical step for the global economy, but the agreement leaves major questions unanswered from Iran’s nuclear program to regional proxy conflicts.

“This war has been a disaster for the Americans and for President Trump,” he says, warning that even a successful deal to reopen the Strait will not undo the deeper damage caused by the war.

It’s very easy to talk about bullfighting in a salon or from behind the fence, Mr. Bremmer. It’s another thing entirely to confront the bull face to face and alive.

I view the deal as akin to trying to bring the Russians into the West after the fall of the Soviet Union, by showering them with money. The thinking then was, you wouldn't be enemies with your business partners, and prosperity would help them reform their evil ways. And we all know how well that worked out. People and countries rarely change so easily.

I guess they are still negotiating Donnies cut of the frozen assets.

One point, Trump and his Donroe doctrine may be, as you claim, more successful but only with autocratic repressive regimes, two of which you mention as examples: Venezuela and Argentina. This is not to my mind a winning strategy since the people in these countries are just waiting for the regimes to show weakness so they can overthrow them hopefully and replace them with something better. We could end up with the US putting troops in these countries to try to support the dictators a la Nicaragua. Would not that be something.

1.5 pages , so ZERO definition of terms. No wonder the only ones smiling are in Iran

Obviously the Trump administration is out to create repressive regimes all over the world! Impeach the whole administration and start to behave rationally with global issues again!
@andreaskunz3467Trump promised a "unconditional surrender". Safe to say, he delivered.
@aproxy7263Too bad we have no coherent policy of becoming less dependent on fossil fuels.
@billzenAs a European, I feel like Statler and Waldorf on the balcony without influence but watching this muppetshow unfold and commenting. Something like...Statler: "Wake up, you old fool, you slept through the whole show!" Waldorf: "Who's the fool? You watched it!
@no-comment-newsSo Iran getting neutered and denuclearized is American failure? Way to speedrun losing your credibility.
@RoiddzIan, how will the US deal with Iran when Iranian missiles can reach the US mainland in just a few years? Wouldn't it have been better to deal with the situation now, rather than kicking the can?
@gusnamazi2074So we give them money and don’t even get inspectors on site for nuclear
@zionen01A filthy game - Make Israel attack and then make Pakistan negotiate... Is this over, I doubt 🤔
@Kid.b85Mickey Mouse foreign policy.
@RosieBaseballTrump will want to give a short spin on the Iran deal and then move on to something else. I don't know what new outrage he has up his sleeve to spin the media around but the Dems should lean into a new Epstein story. And I don't know what he thinks he will do with Cuba but it won't be another Venezuela. Eisenhower had enough sense to stay out of there, as did Kennedy. Johnson and Nixon left it alone. Trump will get more cooperation with Cuba by normalizing relations with them but Trump prefers to be coercive.
@DLYChicagoOkay, that’s all well and good, but what does puppet Trump have to say about this?
@RyanS-77Maybe the Iranians might nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize?
@alvinseah5423Ian is this time for real ?
@MommyZombie322The question is if Trump will attack Cuba. US can not fight multi front wars.
@len2063Totally agree, thanks Ian.
@jerryrichardson2799Trump "bombs" again, lol!
@jerryrichardson2799MOU = concept of a deal. Great work DJT
@billbrockfield1689How much is it going to cost to open the strait? We already know how many billions have been spent for this unnecessary war..
@harveyhorwitz1346Israel is clearly not happy.
@TS73827Remember when the GOP had a conniption about Obama releasing far less in Iranian money? Somehow I think they'll hail this agreement as a great success because nothing they ever say is sincere; it's always just emotional talking points for partisan gain
@guru47piA memorandum of understanding isn't a framework. Solid gold brass
@Ron-j3tYou are out of touch with reality if you think the Iranians are going to open the strait in the way trump has stated - with no Iranian control or tolls.
@montybannerman8978It's a Never-ending war wanted by the Israel Empire ... whether the war ending signing deal is real or not this Friday, global citizens are studying the history lessons from the Israel Empire and the USA Empire for the past 3 decades in their promises vs. their actions 😢😢😢😢
@elainng3347Is there any way that the Trump Final Deal here is any better in anyway than the JCPOA? @gzeromedia it feels like it will be difficult for Iran to offer anything that the US Government can tout.
@theconsigliere714Show me the detail of the MoU. What have they agreed to?
If the deal was a clear win for the US - you can bet Trump would be putting the details out now & crowing about it.
Seems to me that no disclosure is the tell.
Good chance this MoU is so ambiguous & full of holes that it's effectively useless
Or it's not the "great deal" it's claimed to be
So we have a deal to reopen the Straits of Hormuz. Iran will get sanctions relief, billions in unfrozen assets, and a younger more radical regime. What does the US get?
@karmadaveIn short: trump is not even getting the Obama deal.
@Seriouspatt“framework for deal” is a nice euphemism for “the US is in worse shape than before Feb 28th.”
@orwellhuxley6301there seem to be massive contradicitons between the Iranian and the American understanding of this "framework".
I don't think this holds any water whatsoever.
Iran knows Trump will never live up to this deal. Expect the Strait of Hormuz to be closed again by August.
@mwilk19👍👍👍
@WalterBurtonI'll believe it when it actually gets signed.
@citsevenforce6261Trump is the best president of Iran...
@larysarowland2958Frump is paying Iran to open the straight. Plain and simple.
@JM-if1mo$300 billion? I knew it would be bad, but I'm still in shock.
@studiovueGlad we had a war to reopen something that was already open pre war. Sounds like Trump. smh
@kobe42085Basically, Trump cried uncle and now the U.S. is out of the picture, including the protection of assets in the region. Now Qatar, the UAE and the Saudis have to negotiate with Iran their own side deal. What a cluster F*ck.
@Solarsystem50Just wait.. Epstein was a Israel agent. Bibi has some the really nice clips and pictures of Trump in the Island.
@Solarsystem50Which was worse: the JCPOA or the JCPOA plus getting your ass handed to you?
@celin761If I was Iran I would demand a large bribe.
After receiving the bribe I would shoot at another tanker.
And up the passage fee to 3 million per ship😅.
