Video Overview & Insights
After a long day of cleaning others, spaces sometimes the last thing I want to do is clean my own home. In this video, I share a few tips that have helped me spark my motivation to clean up.
Great video. I like to listen to crimey podcasts when I am cleaning (which isn't as often as I probably should). They relax me.

All I need is to watch your videos. Your happy face and dazzling smile motivate me to clean every day. Of course, power tools help. I bought the Ryobi drill with brush attachments and love it. I also have a McCullogh 1385 steam cleaner which is just fabulous.

I really need some motivation to get my room cleaned and decluttered so I can paint the walls a new color. I just want to be motivated enough to actually start doing it.
@JazzGaming261. Have an easy win
2. Start small, set a 10 minute timer
3. Write down key tasks (don't make a long list)
4. Make cleaning fun - listen to a comedy podcast or favourite TV show
5. Any effort in cleaning should be celebrated - treat yourself, don't need to be perfect, be balanced
Excellent tips!
@TripleMRocksLove the shift
@charlottemajewski5992The way I motivated my best friend to clean their neglected room was to throw all the stuff on the bed. Can't go to sleep untill you've tidied everything up!

I invite people over. I'll get it done 90% faster 😆
@hifly1929Always start with the dishes! Once you finish the dishes, you’ll be itching to go ahead and clean the kitchen. Once you clean the kitchen you’ll be ready to clean the restroom and so on and on I have an apartment so I usually do my bedroom and living room as one session for one day and do my kitchen and bathroom as one session for one day.
@Malikj661The 15-minute timer trick is a game-changer, it makes starting feel so much less daunting and usually leads to getting way more done⏱✨🏠
@gavmitchellI really need to clean. After a long time with Achilles tendonitis and pain in my joints, cleaning has not been a priority. Yesterday I started with the method of choosing a space and setting a timer for 1 hour. It worked surprisingly well. I think a timer of 30 minutes today is enough to finish that room.
@jonasheterjag4903Thank you for your tips :)
@lucky5098When I saw this video, I felt stuck and didn’t know where to start cleaning. Now I got an idea.
I plan to buy some equipment to make cleaning easier. Then I made two lists: a cycle list and a must-do list.
I will follow the cycle list whenever I have free time or feel like cleaning.
Cycle list:
• Fold laundry
• Organize kitchen
• Deep clean washroom
…and repeat.
Must-do:
• Wash dishes
• Do laundry when needed
• Clean any place that gets dirty (closet, kitchen, floor).
I will also capture this process and upload it on my channel.
I found a few mixture of things helps. One thing I is pretend that I am cleaning someone else’s house, that helps me organize a little better. Then as you said, distract yourself. I turn on a good book, podcast, music, or a movie I know well.
Sometimes I find it’s hard to want to stay motivated too. One thing I found is don’t take off your shoes, and do your best not to sit down. The moment that you sit down and take off your shoes, you’re signaling to your brain that you were done. ☺️
I cleaned house for years. Now I get started but never get done.
@Lovey64I love your ideas!! It sounds like you have a fun family!! Thank you!!❤😊
@KimberlyReeves-b4gI struggle with consistency so I’m just gonna start doing at least 15 minutes everyday
@Nugget-u6vThe timer trick that you mentioned is what works for my ADHD with getting motivation to clean, especially when it's a task that I abhor. Sometimes I say to myself, "I just need to get the supplies out to start the task," and this is enough to get my mind in gear.
@dhesyca4471I have a twin brother and we share some funny moments about cleaning motivation. I know for the last 2 days, we both had to do laundry, so we’ve been waking up slightly earlier just to race to put our clothes to wash first before the other. Absolutely goated motivation.
@XaviLobbyThanks. This is helpful. I'm going to instead of making a list like "clean living room" I'm going to break it down like organize coffee table, clean up plant shelves, vacuum, dust t.v. and stand. When I check off everything on the list I am done with living room.
@MarkLucas-nv6cgClean, young studio, uh job cook clean, groceries carry floor number. Clean sat all in a day's work. 56 surgery one a day, help cleaning, more than one day. Gotta get done, holiday. Spring clean feb mom april winter sept nov,dec clean. Gotta get done. Clean, messy pile sink, room ugh. Like clean healthier.
@wendycannon9049I play a stream of music from the '80s that I used to go to the clubs and dance to. Very motivating.
@MatthewHarrison-u9kAt 65 years old, I finally found the “key” to enjoying cleaning… NOBODY loves to clean except if you’re getting paid to clean (which most of us aren’t ).. therefore the “trick” to cleaning is to write down on pieces of paper some 15 minute cleaning chores (I.e.- vacuum bedrooms. Or clean fridge or clean tabletops)… after writing them all down, put them in a bowl and every day pick ONE out of the bowl, once finished put into another bowl.. after you’ve finished the bowl, then start over again… after about 2 weeks (with only doing these 15 minute chores, your house is clean and then you start over again…. )… so this way you can do 1 chore a day to make it easy on yourself… it works perfectly.. good luck, happy cleaning 👍
@mommomg9267Thanks for the last tip. Suffering from depression makes cleaning extremely hard. I hope if i also start celebrating small things like vacuuming or doing the bed, will help me stay motivated so i can accomplish more.
@Samira117-v2rI go to YouTube for music to clean by and dance thru tasks
@RuthMiller-q3yI like listening to music while cleaning
@BreAnne-q6lnice edit at 0:20 with the flies 😅
@MNMNT_OGI also find that having the show Hoarders playing on the TV in the background helps me get motivated to clean.
@ethanfleming4624What also could help: limit your cleaning area like "I just clean this specific table and nothig else". It can also boost motivation doing before and after photos of this specific space or item.
@paul.854Going to watch this to see if i can teach others to clean before i lose my sanity 😭 I cant paint, sing, write, build or anything even if its a little messy.
@CeceliaVIPBut where do you start when you need to clean declutter and put away Christmas stuff???
@51623allissaNot the x files music at about 3:18... I'm watching this cuz my mom told me to clean my room today and it's overwhelming but I also WANT to clean it. I feel like if my room is clean, I will be more happy and cheerful I guess. I do enjoy cleaning though. If I see someone clean, I do. I used to FaceTime my friend who also likes to clean and we cleaned together. At one point we also rearranged my room completely 😂😂
@horses_are_better_than_humansWhats your opinion about robot vaccum/mops? Have you used them? Are they good for maintaining your floors in between manual cleanings? Should I get the vacuum only or the mop works? What about self cleaning stations? What are the disadvantages of using them if you have pets/carpets/lower section of floor that the robot has to climb over?
Are they worth the money of the batteries are gonna lose capacity and make it plastic junk within a few years? So many questions!! 😅😅
I put a job on my iPad calendar 📅 for each day and have a day off depending on the week. It motivates me when I see it gone. 😊
@rosehunter7788I have such an issue because of my laziness (Heavily aware of it and trying my best to change) but I am a person who loves clean things and I hate my room right now. I am watching this video and already like the help it's given. Thank you.
@rivergiddyIf I have a nice smelling candle and/or incense on hand, I light them and go into a wide awake hypnosis mode in which I start mindlessly and painlessly cleaning. Added to this, I may listen to my favorite lofi music or news, movies, podcasts in the background. It's magical cleaning 🪄
@dogmagic1617I play a stream of music from the '80s that I used to go to the clubs and dance to. Very motivating.
@Coastal_gal10 minutes of something is better than no minutes of anything 😂 also I try to remind myself and my kids that if we do a few little things every day it doesn’t get too overwhelming. These are things like doing the dishes, making the bed, taking out the recycling or a quick tidying up walk through of our small house.
@KathrynMcDougallI’m a rare millennial that likes phone calls. I have Bluetooth headphones and I have taught myself to clean anytime I am on the phone
@lifeoutnumberedIf only my family would pitch in. I scrubbed and organized and husband DESTROYED it!
@LucyCatMommaGood tips! I used to write lists each night for what I want to do accomplish the next day, it really does help. I had health problems that start at 11 years ago that prevent me from cleaning but I'm feeling well enough again to start slowly.
I'll do the lists again and I like the timer tip!. Music while I'm folding clothes sounds really good!
Thanks so much❤
Yep. I cleaned professionally and no way was I going home to do more 😅
