People calling this cosmic horror are lost. It's a fun creature feature with a good cast... Very derivative of similar recent films.

Not something I'll be watching again, but I enjoyed it.

This movie is actually well-directed. It leans on films like Alien/Aliens pretty hard, but that's no bad thing. It's got tension, thrills and spills... sure it's a little low on character development, but compared to many, many movies made since, with much higher budgets, it's totally worth watching. Shaven-head Kristen Stuart is brilliant. One of the few strong female leads that's believable in the role. Like Ripley, she's just a regular person doing her job who suddenly has to deal with an extraordinary situation - and totally steps up. As opposed to the insufferable girl-bosses Marvel and Disney keep churning out.

The filming quality STINKS ON ICE! If it is too dark and murky to see what is going on, what's the point??!! Hint - there was no point. This movie was junk from start to end.

When 'Chtuhlu' finally appears, the camera switches back/forth between the creature and Steward's face.
You see her face, close up, clearly illuminated. All details visible.
Then you 'see' the creature. Shadows and shapes. Nothing else. Noting visible.

This movie rocks. Sure, the characters and script are nothing new or even creative. Its the unique atmosphere and perfect encapsulation of the fear of the deep that makes this movie so enjoyable though. And it provides a visually immersive and impressive experience.
