Unboxing Tennessee: What It's Like Living In Tennessee
Video Overview & Insights
Is Tennessee all a bunch of rednecks?
Here is my entire Unboxing Series: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq-_cmf3H6yqgM1vGG305six5T7dqGURF
Does everybody in Tennessee listen to country music?
And does everyone in Tennessee have a truck with a gun rack?
is it friendly?
We’ll answer those questions and a whole lot more. So grab your moonshine and yer huntin dog, we’re gonna unbox the state of Tennessee!
Well would you look at this. It’s a good ole fashioned fox hunt. The dogs are set loose to and then they try to find the scent of a fox. When they find a fox, the guys on horses will shoot it. It’s kind of an elite social status thing in Tennessee, and the tradition goes way back in this state’s history.
Honestly as a eastern Tennessean I'm happy fox hunting is dying it's an extremely cruel form of hunting
But not everyone in Tennessee is a fox hunter. In fact, the tradition is sort of dying out here. That’s because Tennessee isn’t the same state it once was. A lot of this state’s once proud traditions are kinda going away in many areas. Which is a shame.
But more on that later. To get a complete overview of the state of Tennessee, we need to look at the state from a higher level, and then drill down into each region to learn more.
Yes we have no stat income tax but our base sales taxes is 9.75% on everything except groceries which is 2%. At restaurants you will pay the 9.76. in addition to that, there is (especially in the tourist areas) a hotel tax, a hospitality tax, local county sales tax, local city sales tax and a gas tax. In some places you could be looking at at least 15-18% tax.
This is Tennessee. It’s a very long state, and an oddly shaped one, too. Tennessee borders 8 other states. That’s the most of any other state, except Missouri, which also borders 8 other states.
As you’ll see, the state can roughly be divided up into three separate areas. West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee. These are called the Grand Divisions. Each region is way different than the other part, and the people who live in each region all have different backgrounds and cultures. Which makes Tennessee so special.
Enjoyed the heck out of it!
We'll talk about Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga and more.

I’m from Brazil but I’d love to live in Tennessee, at least for a while, to experience this real American culture and way of life 🇺🇸

In my experience, TN has the nicest people and PA has the meanest, most nasty.

I like how all the "best state in the US" comments are from people who have never lived anywhere else. lol

Arkansan here, if you are passing through west Memphis Arkansas go as fast as you can! Also beatle street is definitely ghetto now, there are body guard with blockades and metal detectors checking if people have weapons now.

This channel is about America!
This is one of the states i wanna in the US but the demographics makes me not wanna go
The best video on this topic!
Your map around 1:14 is too funny....coming from Kingsport, I guess that puts me in the "weird Mountain folk" category!
More User Perspectives
Are people moving into TN welcomed if they embrace the culture? I understand the “don’t change our state” attitude as i want to flee a state that was changed after there was a huge influx of people from a different state.
@Keeplookingup87Could be wrong but I didn't hear anything about Chattanooga.
@blakkauldronmusic5280I’ve lived in east Tennessee over 20 years and I have never seen a truck with a gun rack in it
@davidthomas13294 years later and Tennessee is now called east California.
@davidsloan6646I moved to Chattanooga from Dallas, Texas five years ago and love it here. It's a friendly place, not too crowded, with plenty of college-town weirdness.
@veruca41😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@JockosSlotsWatching from Somali Land, I love
Tenessee as I have lived and worked at Banker's Trust in
Nashville for 2 years from 1996- 1998.
Greetings to Tenessee from Somali Land, East Africa.
🎉
@BelindaGerard-ms7usI'm planning on moving to S.W. part of Tennessee. I've been there plenty of times, & never had anything bad to say about it. The people are wonderful, & polite my goal is to find a plot of land, or an abandoned place, with maybe an older house. I wanna go completely offgrid, self sustained & self sufficient. Going with solar power to power my small homestead, raising chickens and a couple of pigs & having a garden big enough to be able to get through the winter, & to help my neighbors. I'm going down this July for about a week
@MikePorter-df5vlMemphis is a shit hole! Unsafe and gangs!
We stayed in Jackson for work. Every vehicle got attacked or broken into. Not much better then Memphis...
If your a USA hating liberal don’t come here. I GUARANTEE you will not feel welcome. 🇺🇸
@aero3085No state income tax but poor wages, $7.25 minimum wage, a high sales tax rate and more. My good friend who lives in East Memphis needs to have two side hustles in addition to a full-time job to survive.
@bostonrachelListen to country and oldies!
@sonjaorand7226As someone born and living in Tennessee, we don’t need anything to change here.
Love it here.
Being forced to move to Tennessee. I don't want to be there so I guess it's nice to hear I'm not welcome either. Imma vote so blue and I intentionally refuse to get the accent.
@chilldude42001Need to do. Spell check on some of those towns
@angelarussell6537All my exes live in Texas. That’s why I hang my hat in Tennessee.
@shiftstartWhat folks are expressing about Nashville, sounds a lot like what has happened to: Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona....etc.
People w/some $$$ find nice places to move to, then some, turn the towns into the garbage they just fled from (California)! I'm a CA native but was priced out of EVERYTHING there a long time ago. I don't have the answers, but I do hope somebody of sound mind does & can implement better choices than the past years of greed, grab & selfishness.
Go Buckeyes!!!
@williwilliams5238Born and raised in East Tennessee. You sure managed to stereotype us. Shame on you!
@bartgomez4872West Tennessee is literally mississppi 2.0 it just an extension of Mississippi. Which is alright I love Mississippi and West Tennessee rural and beautiful.
@DaredevilBlaineTennessee is the best state i live and was born here and will never move
@YounggunslingerI lived in Knoxville for 8 years. Loved living there. Great place!
@ralphbroeils1760Please stay away from tennessee
@WhateverItsanOpinionTennessee is a terrible place to live. The massive influx of blue state refugees destroyed it.
@1BruisedReedAll the redneck stereotype questions you asked at the beginning are the reasons I want to live there one day, especially Middle Tennessee!
Also, don't mistake it, there are one hundred percent rednecks in the Nashville area. Franklin and Brentwood are literally just rednecks with money. When I was walking Lower Broadway, there was a Lamborghini with Trump flags and Rebel flags. I see many jacked up trucks with rebel license plates, etc. And last time I went was summer of 2024! It is a heavenly environment!
MANCHESTER MENTIONED 🗣️
@laylapreater7813good wanna live there some time and test the food and weather
@offi_alberto_wong_cialWe don't need anyone else moving here. The outside people are driving our home prices up to an over inflated market
@JasonStutzI am italian and I want to move to the USA to chase the american dream. I was considering Nashville ! Do you recommend it?
@francescopetrucci2694How come we are the only state where the polls show a majority of people polled are supporting Trump? Are we nuts? It's shameful - trying to explain to people how we support this traitor.
COMON! It's bad enough that we're like the least educated state, the most poverty stricken and have the fattest population.
We need to elevate Tennessee out of the "trailer trash" category and move to the woods again and find our independence.
What? Does Fox News govern us?
We are very RED and very proud of it if you are cool with that and ready to plunge in to our philosophy come on.
@KathySinder-ww2vwHe's so right about Nashville being full of hipsters 🤣🤣
@TheTiffanyMonroeThank you for this nice video!
