Kevin & Erin would’ve made a cute couple
More User Perspectives
This clip doesn’t include the question after Erin answered “flying jib correctly,” maybe it was just in the superfan episode. But the next question asked is what the most common learning disability is among American adolescents. Oscar confidently answered ADHD, which was wrong, and Meredith correctly answered dyslexia.
If the question had been which of these two disorders is more common among American adolescents, Oscar would’ve been correct, with about a 1.4% higher diagnosis of ADHD than dyslexia among American students aged 3-17. However, under American disability law, specifically IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act), ADHD is not classified as a learning disability, it is classified under “Other Health Impairments.” Legally, both entitle you to the same federally protected rights and accommodations, but ADHD is not considered a learning disability like dyslexia is. Anyone diagnosed with dyslexia or anything else listed as a learning disability is entitled to services automatically, no questions asked. According to IDEA, a diagnosis of only ADHD means you have to provide specific evidence that the student’s ADHD impacts their learning enough to warrant services.
About 30% of students with dyslexia also have ADHD, so many students with ADHD don’t need to go through that extra step, but those that only have ADHD are likely not going to be entitled to as many services as those with diagnosed learning disabilities. The services they get approved must be provided, no questions asked, violating any IEP or 504 is violating federal law. But the services approved will likely be different. Some studies and news articles may group ADHD together with learning disabilities, but they will almost always specify “learning disabilities and/or ADHD” making it clear these are two separate categories of conditions they are studying or grouping together because they are so closely related. But legally, ADHD is not a learning disability. This is the reason Oscar’s answer was wrong. Meredith’s son is dyslexic, which is why she knows the correct answer.
I was watching this episode and I just felt the urge to put this out there in case someone is randomly curious. I’m studying Disability in Education so I just couldn’t help myself.
Kevin, one of the most enigmatic characters in tv history!

@PeoplesScienceKelly knows the basketball thing because of reality TV (and Ryan was actually closer than Jim probably for the same reason) Erin knows about the Flying Jib because Andy talks about boats all the time, Kevin knows his answers because his weight and enjoyment of nudity, and Meredith is getting her degree in child psychology (as revealed in The Finale) so of course she knows what the most prevalent learning disability is compared to what most people would assume!
@yoshilu7451I love that kevin's last answer, which won them the game of the gay bar, is a result of him being very much not gay, ie him lusting over marion cotillard exposing herself.
@Jyaxtoh“If you go fishing for a fluke you just might catch one” this man went on to own one of the most successful bars in Scranton PA folks, the man was a genius in disguise.
