Taken From Blue Planet II

This bold cinematic experience takes viewers on a magical adventure across the greatest, yet least known, parts of our planet – our oceans. Since Blue Planet aired in 2001, our understanding of life beneath the waves has completely changed. Travelling from the icy polar seas to the vibrant blues of the coral atolls, this series shares these astonishing new discoveries. Meet the strange octopuses lurking in the depths of the Antarctic Ocean. Watch giant trevally fish leap to catch birds in mid-air. And ride on the back of a hammerhead shark as it attacks. Inspiring awe and wonder, Blue Planet II reveals surprising new places, charismatic new characters and extraordinary new behaviours.

Some deep-sea creatures have developed unique bioluminescent patterns to navigate the extreme darkness of the ocean floor. It is truly fascinating how life thrives in such intense, high-pressure environments.

After watching this scene where trevally prey on tern chicks, I’ve been tangled in conflicting thoughts. Natural selection culls weaker chicks to sustain ecological balance, yet the brutal competition feels hard to accept at first glance. I’m captivated by the breathtaking beauty of mountains, forests and oceans, while also wondering how we should make sense of nature’s harsh survival rules. I once questioned if nature’s stunning landscapes only mask its cold screening mechanisms, which left me stuck in a brief state of existential confusion. I don't know what standard should we use to view nature’s beauty alongside its cruelty, and how can we reconcile human compassion with ecological laws!

crabs absolutely sicken me ...what a horrid existence. i have no idea why but the stingray scene was like watching a very graphic horror movie. im interested in what the interactio is but watching all the crabs swarming around made me feel ill. I have no idea why i became so so disgusted by crabs. i had pet hermit crabs as a child and i can only remember that is a fun and positive experience. i also was a huge rolly poly fanatic as a kid, going so far as to host a rolly poly themed birthday party which in hindsight must have come off as very strange. but at some point crabs started to scare me so much, i have no idea why. their existance sounds like a nightmare so i do feel bad for them too... like them all swarming on each other. i assume some molt early and then just get run over by a cavalcade of crabs that got there a little late and still have their spikes? how gruesome even in the context of nature is generally very gruesome and we have to accept that. it just sends a chill down my spine for some reason. and that is all before the stingray shows up .. tho if I were one of those crabs I would accept my fate at least getting taken out by a beautiful animal instead of a fellow freak crab.
