I unironically agree with your statements that The Sword of Kaigen is terrible. Good review.

— @Lerichem

1:38 Book 1: The Lord of The Rings

6:04 Book 2: The Sword of Kaigen

Your first point on Red Rising is why I hated it. It's Scifi, but book tubers have been plopping it into fantasy. I picked it up thinking it's fantasy and hated it.

Please for the love of god stop lumping scifi and fantasy into the same genre. They are not the same.

— @bkpickell

12:59 Book 3: The Wheel of Time

20:17 Book 4: Red Rising

12:43 - Sword of Kaigen ~ that “horrible” review made me want to read it right when you mentioned ATLA. How great?

— @JuliasPaperClouds

25:13 Book 5: The Way of Kings

30:15 Book 6: Hyperion

Things I hate about Storm light.

1. Shallan being witty. She isn't funny. She is cringe.
2. Shadesmar. More like yawnsmar. When does this chapter end.
3. Moash being a baddy for like no reason. Just go back to being a goody why are you like this
4. Jasnah being the best at everything to the point where she literally comes back from the grave to like, zero fanfare, because Jasnah is just so goated everyone expects her to survive.
5. Oh Kaladin is sad again. Get over it champ we have shit to do.

— @Pinpadprompts

35:20 Book 7: American Gods

38:25 Book 8: Small Gods

All but one of the flaws for Sword of Kaigen made me go Damn, now I'm interested. (And it was on my tbr before)

— @saphira5678

42:44 Book 9: The Lions of Al-Rassan

48:32 Book 10: Lonesome Dove

No bigger wheel of time hater then a hard core wheel of time fan. We are a different breed.

Watching this while I write my own book so I don't get too cocky

@hydra1396
@

Honestly the red rising description is pretty spot on. It’s mid asf

@MirinM8
@

As a British person, this video sold me on American Gods more than any positive review I've ever seen

@cocolynette4272
@

I read three Red Rising books. Just didn't have any interest in continuing the series after I finished the third book. I only read it because people in reviews said James Islington ripped off Red Rising in The Will of the Many. No, just no. The Will of the Many is better by an order of magnitude than anything I read in the first three Red Rising books.

Don't be sorry about the lens focus on this episode. Now we can see what is really important: the books!

@kiloyardstare
@

Even though I know you love these books, and I love them too (the ones I've read), listening to the criticism kind of makes me sad. Why? I know the reason people won't like WoT or Red Rising objectively, but I don't know if I like hearing you guys tell me. Happy New Year!

As someone named after July Johnson from Lonesome Dove, and lives near his home town. I got worried

@t3july
@

“It’s a western so it might make you thirsty” was the lowest of low hanging fruit and you missed it.

@brandon8667

Sword of Kaigen was super boring for me. I may have to try it again though as I strongly disliked thenfirst law the first time I read it, now its in my top 5 series.

I’ve come back to The Wheel of Time after stopping almost 30 years ago. Everything that you’ve said is spot on, but in your list of blatant ripoffs, you missed Arthurian legend. That was what made me stop the first time, slow pacing, and the supremely obvious Arthurian characters and “the sword that cannot be touched”, in the Stone of Tear. That’s right, TWoT is just the story of King Arthur and the Knights of Arrakis, with the meandering pacing of the LotR where storylines are just left hanging for chapter after chapter (which is honestly that book’s biggest weakness).

Why was it I decided to give it another go after almost 30 decades again? [Don’t worry, I am liking it a lot more this time around. I also found ideas that I’ve wanted in my fantasy since I first read it where I didn’t recall where I’d seen them]

@Neotrophy
@

I enjoy Red Rising so much but the series in general has so many flaws. I always tell people, it is extremely fast paced. The book is just rushing to the next big action scene. It’s very young adult. But I enjoy it so much.

@Captain_Coots
@

this was great

@hpwrotethis

You did such a good job explaining why I don't like Wheel of Time or Red Rising! Lol, both the promote books you hate and trash books you love videos are so fun!

@Mermer-16

This made me laugh. Fun video!

TWoK bit tore my soul apart

@Beethovens.diving-gear

I love this because it shows that even though you absolutely loved these books and would likely rate them highly, you can recognize what other people might not like about them. But that doesn't take away from your enjoyment. No gatekeeping. No yucking anyone's yum.

@tommyleemeyer
@

I love Richards face during the red Rising review. Pure joy and satisfaction

@aaronwatts72
@

I really want to hear your guys' take on the Ender-verse/Shadow-verse, particularly Rich's opinion since he seems to mention EG more often. I really want to hear what you think about the last book lol.
**SPOILER ALERT**

It wasn't just a bad ending. It was disturbing how terrible it was. He didn't "write himself into a corner" like he kept saying. His lazy ass just didn't feel like coming up with anything clever. It tainted the entire series for me unfortunately.

@Twenty-Seven
@

Describing Red Rising as hunger games and reading the cw immediately moved it way up my tbr list!

@avsambart
@

Any books I already had on my tbr have been pushed UP because of this video 😂 this was so good even if it probably hurt y'all to say bad things about your favs 😂

@avsambart
@

I agree 💯 on the “Way of Kings.” It’s the last Sanderson book I’ll read. I don’t want to become locked in thrall into Cosmere universe, like a sapper in “The Will of the Many.” Life is too short.

@ZenosWarbirds
@

Suspicious how naturally some of these criticisms came for you guys 🤨🤨

@kennyclips658
@

As someone who has a lot of questionable faves, I am just revelling in watching your guys' pain and have decided that I will never follow in your footsteps 🤣🤣

@esmayrosalyne

This is the firsttime yall have popped up on my feed in months...... didn't know i missed yall this much haha

@PageTurnersbooktube523

27:39 “one great book which it’s not!” Love the honesty! It’s a okey book only for me. I got hooked for the plot a nd story, even if the plot is slow

@focusrelax8838
@

I gave up on The Wheel of Time after reading The Eye of the World, so my perspective on the entire series is very limited, but as far as I'm concerned, you did a good job hating on it. Though you didn't emphasize enough how bad the characters are (in The Eye of the World there are only three types of characters - boring ones and annoying ones).

@MichalGlowacz86
@

Shoutout to austin for actually explaining why i ACTUALLY hate red rising.

@ashleyholbird4287

Well i discover RED RISING because of you, and i'm very happy about it. I know i was under a rock 😅

@leila2109

This is gold, boys. Pure gold. I anticipate seeing other Booktubers sniping this format to start off 2025.

@HollowDomain110

My husband and I have both read Lonesome Dove, and my husband says the biggest flaw in Lonesome Dove is that they spend less than a quarter of the book in Lonesome Dove. That is all.

@emilyharmston324
@

When your 'complaints' of Wheel Of Time completely match my 'complaints' of Princess Bride ... convinces me all the further to hate-read it.

@B-MC
@

This video shows that even the books we love and consider "perfect" have their flaws, and that's okay. In fact, it's these imperfections that make them real and relatable, reminding us that nothing is truly flawless—yet still worthy of our admiration

@DarkHorseDanny
@

I legitimately hate the lord of the rings books, I read the hobbit and the fellowship of the rings. Outside of Bilbo and Sam, all of the characters are the same, they just know different things. Also Tolkien pontificates on the grass while skipping dialogue and lore.

@richardanderson1008
@

yall are making it too easy for someone to clip you guys out of context and get you cancelled on twitter or something 😂

also skillshare? get your bag guys 😉

@minaa107
@

This is so great and hilarious, because the things you “hate” are actually true! Especially about TWOT and Red Rising, I still love them both though!🤣 🤣

@thebookthatnooneread

Wheel of time is one of the most impactful and important reading experiences I’ve ever had, that I would recommend to almost nobody.
