I always recommend top of the rock because you get the same views as Empire State Building and the One World Trade while getting both buildings in your view.

By far the best observation deck in NYC, for one simple reason: On the very top deck you've got no glass nor iron bars between you and the views.

I was there in 2015. It was magical. I love the Rockefeller Center and being inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza was amazing. The view was incredible and the people were all super friendly.
The organization was very good, no waiting at all, thanks to clever time slot management.

My Equipment:
about the tourist photos at 1:28, when I went there they force you wait in line for everyone to have their picture taken, even if you don't want a picture. So ridiculous. They should save that for the exit.

I was given a great tip before my trip to NYC - go to Top of the Rock at 9 PM. There are no lines then and the view is the best because at night you see the lights of the city - the Empire State Building, the Crystler Building, Summit Vanderbilt and others. It is also great to look uptown and see Central Park as a huge patch of darkness surrounded by light.

Did this a few months before this video. Sadly I couldn't go right to the top as it was closed as it was too windy, but I did manage it the year before. My favourite view of the city by far.

I just took my family up there last week and we really enjoyed the experience! We went on a Wednesday evening and there were no waiting! The 360 view of the city is just unbeatable! The engineers made a good choice of using clear plexiglass instead of metal railings, so you have an unobstructed view! Having the Empire State building and Central Park in the background is priceless!

Great vid. I'm planning my trip to NYC in 2 months and I'm going to focus on photography. An evening shot from the top floor of this building is a must for me. This is why I have 2 questions:
1. Is your stay time limited in any way?
2. Is the top floor with no glass screens as I can see in this video or have the installed screens since then?

Thanks for the video~
@Skull9irlVisiting you guys the week before Halloween 🦇
Staying at the riu so very excited to visit with my teen boys
This is on the list with statue of liberty 🗽 and the empire just because we want to see the fabled places
Any other tips
Visiting from Lancaster in the north west of UK 🇬🇧
I wouldn't pay $4 bucks for that crap.
@johnnyrodriguez8358We were just to NY for the first time 1 week ago. We were extremely lucky t.o have the opportunity to visit the Top of the Rock with barely anyone around. If there were 20 people that would be a stretch. 40usd is a bit steep for the experience but the views are so immersive and gorgeous! I would highly recommend
@terryrichardson5493I went at night and saw the whole city lit up
@oscaranderson3837Visited “top of the rock” and Empire State Building in 2009, here’s the funny thing, when your on top of the Empire State Building the one thing you can’t see (obviously) is the Empire State building so while its good it’s not the most recognizable view of New York. I hadn’t done any research and only went up to the top of the rock because it included in my “New York pass” I was blown away (not literally) this is where every iconic picture of New York has ever been taken, if you’ve only got the time or budget to go up one building make sure it’s top of the rock you’re looking down straight at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral you can see all the iconic buildings as you would imagine them, this quite frankly is the best view in New York, no if no but’s.
@paschal77Thanks for a wonderful presentation
@congdinh6852I haven’t been in New York since... 2013, and I was really struck by the rise of new skyscrapers absolutely eating into the Central Park view that weren’t there before. I’ll definitely return to Top of the Rock if post-Covid travel is allowed from Ireland to America again later this year; I’d love a return visit and holiday. Thanks for the videos; I’ve seen ins of yours by now, and they’re pretty interesting...
@vercoda9997Thank you 👍 We absolutely will go up Top of the Rock.
@cicchiamichaelAaaayyy dio'mío! Plus $10.00 at sunset?! Well, I don't go to NYC every weekend and based on your great recommendations it's a must for photo enthusiasts. Thank you
@thx2468We first were at Top of the Rock three years ago (visiting our daughter who lives in NYC). The new buildings on the north side were not as tall as now, and we had an unobscured view of Central Park. By the way, if you ever do a show on kosher restaurants in Manhattan, our daughter would be a good resource. We have enjoyed Modern Bread & Bagel near the AMNH and a kosher Uzbeki meat restaurant in the Diamond District, among others.
@georgejobanek9706Top of the Rock is too expensive for what it is. It was not that worth it for me.
@macharper8214Is it about your face or the view from above? 😐
@onibruI loved it!! Went there on my 2nd day in NYC right in the morning and the experience was great! That Empire State view is just... wow! Lots of good memories while watching this video :)
@arielgrushkaSo glad I found your videos! Came to NYC for the first time two years ago - and "Top of the Rock" was nearly my last stop on this exact day (May 20th) in 2018. Absolutely loved it! It was well worth the price for a tourist, in my opinion. I had my Ricoh Theta V up there, took some great 360-pana photos, a few on the selfie-stick stuck out between the plexiglass barriers so I could get the street below as well, beautiful! Completely agree with your assessment. I was surprised at how open it was and how much space there was, considering the crowds when I was waiting to go up. Unless you're on a really tight budget, I would definitely recommend it for tourists!
@WildStar2002For my 8th grade rip i went to the rock and boy oh boy i have a mild fear of heights and that elevator ride to the top was terrible!
@FANTASYbac0nIn 1998 i did in one day the never to be repeated Double ...World Trade Center one AND the Empire State Building.
@skeelo69👍
@bigrico1961The top of the rock is a fantastic place in New York City!
@dennisdaniels6946The view is the best at night
@sampeters3502I went up here in August of 2019. My first time in America from 🇬🇧. The view is amazing. My dream is to move to NYC when I’m older. Right now I’m 15 👍
@dxlicataLove the videos Jon.
@annetteskidmore1604Just got back from NYC went for the first time. I did top of the rock and it was beautiful I went at night time and loved it.
@Jimothy86I agree with you. If you’re into rooftop hopping, photography, or just want to get your bearings around NYC landmarks it might be a great idea. But for the $40-50 price of entry you could visit lots of cool neighborhoods and experiment great street food/ethnic dishes instead.
@NothingMasterLoved the views - but I’m pretty sure it was 25$ in 2015
@snappic2867Jon, thanks a lot for your help! I came across your videos few days before me and my wife are coming to NYC ( tomorrow actually) and I couldn't plan our visit better without your support! Very useful tips and I feel that we are going to have much more great experience thanks to your videos!
@szymonsarna7273The view is way better at night
@sampeters3502May 2019 was my first visit to NYC, went up to the “Top of the Rock” three times 😁
Expensive, but I’ve always wanted to see NYC since my childhood so it was worth every cent 😁
From Hawaii to NYC didn’t sleep on the plane ride, was too excited that i was actually going to be in NYC. 😁
Hope to be back this year, and I’ll definitely be back at the “Top of the Rock” 😁
is it scary up there? I'm not into heights but am planning on going up next month.
@danielziebaThanks for the video. Will be going up there tonight. Looking very much forward to it. We were at One World Observatory yesterday which was great as well. But without a tourist pass it is (like many of NYC‘s attractions) definitely too expensive.
@F44F2If you like observation decks, Top of the Rock is worth it. Great views and significantly smaller crowds than the Empire State Building. Big discount for military.
@jirky015RUTGERS!!!! Upstream Red Team. Keep Choppin!!!!!!
