I have a staycation every July in my home city. It doesn’t get old. My fave hotel is The Grand Chancellor, it’s not expensive, is close to the theatre district, close to public transport, and has good access to some great restaurants.

I wouldn't put the Brighton Beach boxes in the top 10 - they are just pretty sheds on an unremarkable beach. I'd go to one of the zoos or Healsville sanctruary or puffing billy instead.

I living in Melbourne for more than 30 years. I love my place of living, love Victoria and love Australia as a whole. I covered about 500 thousands km criss-crossing Australia and Victoria. So..... Person who recommend that particular 10 places as "top" in my humble opinion hate Australia and Victoria or as very least does not understand either. Coming here say from Europe and kill your time on most boring artificial place called federation square is so plain-minded that I cannot even pickup proper words to express it.

I was just there. Had a bnb in South Yara...walk to work in Richmond. It was amazing. Great food, nice vibe. Dont forget to visit MCG for some AFL. Go Tigers!

Just a tip for people visiting the 12 apostles at sunset. A group of us decided to take nibbles and wine along as we watched the sun go down. There were quite a few people visiting that night however they all left when the sun dipped into the horizon. We were still finishing our food and soaking up the experience so we stayed, and we were so glad we did. Just below the boardwalk down on the sand a penguin colony began returning from the ocean and waddling up the beach back to their burrows! We were in a perfect place to watch this incredible sight. It is one special memory I will always treasure.
