Roger Ebert spoke highly of The Fall (2006). I believe he would have included this film on his 1992 list.

I love North By Northwest, Taxi Driver, Sunset Blvd, The Maltese Falcon, In Cold Blood. I concur with Citizen Kane, La Dolce Vita, The Third Man and 2001.

Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to cinema. I can appreciate the contribution of these films and yet my list would differ significantly. Films like The Sting, Jaws and The Terminator would find their way into my list, not because they're big blockbuster titles but for their raw impact and outstanding performances that give the characters a true to life feel . .

Casablanca; Citizen Kane; La Dolce Vita; Notorious; these are excellent choices. I thought I would see The Seventh Seal here, because Ebert once said it was one of his favorite films. Mine, too.

My list would also have Les Enfants du Paradis and The Seven Samurai.

The first 2 titles on his list begin with a 2.

RIP Mr Ebert. I grew up watching the show to see what was coming out for movies and what they thought of them. I always agreed with Ebert over Siskel the majority of the time. Times were do much simpler!

That show was must watch TV back in the day.

I always had the impression that Gene Siskel had this guy by a solid 30 IQ points... And more often than not coached him up on a film's true qualities graciously...

It's alright to praise popular movies.

2001 space odyssey is the worst film I have ever watched.

@michaelfrank5239

2001 A Space Odyssey is fuggin awful. I'm glad he didn't include the extremely overrated Vertigo.

Roger Ebert did the funniest review of a movie I've ever heard. It was for the movie "Prospero's Books", and Ebert's review said, "You want to turn your eyes away from the screen, but you can't, because it's two hours of non-stop genitals."

They were such great guys. Their passings make me very much doubt the existence of god.

Errol Morris’ Vernon FL movie is a real interesting watch…lots of good story telling in that one.

Casablanca is a better movie than Citizen Kane.

Raging Bull not sweeping the Oscars is all you need to know about the Oscars.

@docbrown6797

Kinda predictable. A whos who of most big lists outside of Floating Weeds and Gates of Heaven. I think there's an age cut off for Casablanca. I cant stand it and I'm not a fan of Bogart, tbh.

@willard39

I've tried a number of times to get through "The Third Man", but the music is just too annoying!

@Ron-pd7jm

I've seen most of these movies because I'm 63 and when I was young TV stations would run old movies all night.... long before cable and before you had a choice to watch what you wanted. Then even those all night movie marathons got phased out in favour of stupid infomercial programming.
Had I not seen them and many more then I most likely would have never appreciated them as I do now.
Some other movies that I feel I have to watch again every few years include The Natural, The Blues Brothers, Killing Fields and a couple of Aussie classics, The Castle and The Dish 😀😀😀

@Ulbre

Hmm, lots of dated black and white ones from the past. What about ones from his more recent years before he passed on

No....Casablanca is the best film ever made....no question in my mind....Two people that wanted to be together but couldn't because of a greater good...Rick could live with the pain only because he knew he was doing the right thing by letting her go.
