How far does it go on a single charge is a common question among those comparing electric cars. No one would think of comparing petrol/diesel cars like that. The question is always, how much does it consume per 100 km or per mile and how much does it cost?
Comparing how far does it go on a charge or a single tank is pointless, as one charge and one tank vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle. The VW Golf has a 50-55 liter tank and consumes an average of 4.5-6 liters per 100 km. The Ford F350 has a 100-180 liter tank and consumes an average of 16-20 liters per 100 km. Who would think of comparing which one can go further on a one tank? The result of such a comparison is pointless.
I challenge those who compare the range of electric cars to base their comparison on range and cost per 100 km, that way they are comparing apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.

I am surprised that Kia and Hyundai were not represented - especially the Kia EV4 Fastback.
In this very warm weather my 2021 Hyundai Kona 64 kWh is showing 5.9 mi/kWh with a predicted range of 363 miles @100% when last Charged on 1st July, 2026.
The overall average after five Winters and four Summers is 5.3 mi/kWh (no heat pump).

@DorisPerez-t7tWith all the tech focus, you totally miss key factor - the driving fun and looks. All models you show fail on this front as I tested them, never remember which one it was 2 days later (Japanese, German and Chinese all similar, uninspiring designs across). Exception: Renault R4 = most charming retro look, resembles Mini cooper shape plus French design features. By far best infotainment, simple, high tech assistance system (incl. one pedal). Most storage space in this sector. Perfect family excursions but not for frequent long trips. Overall: R4 by far the best model from Renault ❤❤ Also, let’s buy EUROPEAN cars, supporting local brands and workers. 😊

@video-carlI was absolutely fucking flummoxed at how much cheaper it is to have a daily commuter EV.
For the entire first month I owned the thing, I spent a fraction of what I would have spent in a week on fuel.
My little Nissan Leaf has a 250 mile range, but I never worry about it. I charge it a couple of times a week and I don't worry about it.

@lukastast9245So last week with my MYLRRWD I drove 380kms in 3h34mins from 100-2%, the next leg drove 394kms in 4h21 from 81-1%. It’s all about how we drive it!

Weight makes a negligible difference, but it is a popular myth, it just sounds intuitive.
@JoshuaStringfellow1The way to drive cost-effectively is 1) charge at home and 2) if you need charge away from home, charge at Tesla superchargers. the rest follows from there. If you're going to do more than a few long road strips every year, get a model 3 or model Y. if you'll never be more than 150 mile from home, a CLA250+ would do nicely (shooting brake of course). if you think you need a BMW because you're a "driver", stop worrying about cost-efficiency.

@MarkDurbin-q7gSuch a bulls*** video is really very disapointing from what car. Everybody in the business of ev's know wltp is a joke. The variations are huge. E208 is a calamity for exemple. Just check spritmonitor, not an idiotic video like this one. Soooo disapointing.
@Fsh7486How were these figures achieved? What conditions and criteria were set? My neighbour can get more than 5 miles/kWH, but he does have 600 cars blaring their horns following him everywhere he goes. He is always late.
Watch Bjorn Nyland's EV videos. He takes them on a 1000km drive at 90 or 120kmph. The efficiency figures are appalling. There are very few EVs that can achieve more than 3 miles/kWh at 120kmph. Most are 2.5 miles/kWh. Some <2.
Billions of pounds wasted for america's wars could have used to build a British EV. But they didnt.

@TruthTeller-100I drove a 5 hour round trip in a 2022 model y LR with roof racks on from Essex to lemmington spa and averaged 198Wh/mi which is over 5miles/kWh!
@YoutubedotcommaMy box-on-wheels motor "Fugly", a Kia EV3 Air 81kWh (17" wheels) has an official WLTP of 4.6 miles/kWh and I'd say average real-world insights of 3.8-4.2 miles/kWh are about right. I've had the car for around 18 months, done 18,500 miles and it averages around 4.0 miles/kWh (78kWh usable, so around 312 miles range most of the time, although 90% of the time I charge to 80%-100% is only for rare long journeys). For a very practical car with loads of space and great comfort, I'm happy with those numbers.
@lw2978So nothing as yet is cheap, has reasonable room and range. Puma is probably the best middle ground.

The problem with using WLTP isn't just how wildly optimistic it is - its how that optimism varies greatly from car to car.
It completely ignores the effects of weight if you have people in it, all but ignores the effects of poor insulation/heat pump and biases it very heavily toward low speed driving. It also ignores the effects of extra drag from wet or poor surfaces and largely ignores hills.
If you jump in the Tesla with its alleged 300+ miles you can be pretty sure you're going to get well over 200 miles even if you tear it down the motorway. The Spring on the other hand isn't going to get very far at all in the same use and even at a steady 70mph you're going to be looking for a charger the wrong side of 50 miles.
Put four people and a boot full of luggage in each then set off on a windy or wet day and the effect is multiplied.
The problem with the "efficiency" a smaller battery's lower weight allows is that when you do ask it to do any real work it has a lot more resistance per kW used. That builds heat and efficiency goes out of the window.
The Spring is cheap because its rubbish. Its only any use as a low range commuter or shopping car which is fine if thats all you ever want a car to do but as a normal only car its just not realistic for most people. It also makes little sense if you use it as a second car. So you have a petrol and a Spring - why pay two sets of insurance and have to have two parking spaces when a plug in hybrid can do more distance on electricity, can charge faster and the bump in price is less than the Spring cost anyway - along with being able to drive an actual car all the time instead of a tiny box with all the niceties and crash protection of a made-in-Taiwan hotwheels rip off?
This is all good but how about looking at used cars ? What car used to do used tests as well as new cars ! I have a 6yr old Hyundai Kona electric still averaging 5 miles per kWh and 320+ miles of range! How about helping the little man/woman out who wish to get into EVs but can't afford new ? Come on boys half the issue that EV sceptics have is longevity and how good for the environment they're supposed to be !
@michaelhastings7441The charging losses are higher with a "granny charger" because of the energy required to run the car's Battery Monitoring System and associated software, not because of heat generated by the charging process. High powered charging generates much higher heat losses but that is offset by the fact the car is awake and monitoring the charging for a small fraction of the time it takes to get the same amount of energy into the car from an slow AC charger.

@masterjejep1386Personal experience of running a Peugeot e208 for three years got me about 3.4miles per kWhr, nowhere near the 4.3 claimed. Not sure how they’ve got their figures from.
