as good as fallout is the realism and scope of silo dwarfs it in comparison because silo was just as epic as fallout but still more seeded in reality and tht and a bigger achievement on its own

Just finished Severance...What a colossal waste of time! The more you think of the concept, the stupider it gets. The end of season 2 was just dumb, as well as what they were doing there...Aaaarggghhhhhh...just so dumb.

Make a red rising series and there will never be a need for a list of shows again

5:55 if you start reading the Foundation novels, it doesn't take long to notice that the TV show "strays from the original material". it diverts quite heavily from the beginning.

it's a great show, which I love, but the fact that it doesn't follow the books is not something "some fans might feel".

OK, as a huge science fiction fan I'll give my opinion of the series on this list that I've seen, and it's not a positive one for the most part. The Expanse is worth a watch, but it's also not all that well written. It's got a great setting, it's got some interesting story elements, but it's not even close to realistic. Three Body Problem is badly written and predictable, and kind of stupid overall, despite a good concept that just never is really played out well. Foundation is visually fantastic, but it absolutely butchers the source material in order to rewrite it into yet more girlboss bullshit and more immediate drama and action and that's practically a sin to anyone who is a fan of the books, which have a slower and more inteligent story that plays out over generations and multiple protagonists, not just one,, so I stopped watching several episodes in because I was just getting angry. The Mandalorian had one good season and half of a decent second season, the rest was increasingly boring and badly written. And the Fallout TV show was just fucking terrible. It's stupid, it disrespects the source material worse than the last couple of games have, and it screws with established lore in order to tell a poorly thought out critique of capitalism.

DARK >>>>>>

Altered Carbon!?!?! People say 2nd season isn’t as good but who tf cares, in terms of Sci-Fi, it literally embodies the bloody genre! Not to say the ones on the list aren’t good, Foundation is incredible! Need to finish Fallout but also a great show! But Altered Carbon, to not get a mention? Crazy!🤣

If Silo is top 5 in this day and age.. it shows the low barrier to entry.. this should not be in the top 10..

Thank you for comfirming that there was no good scifi the last 5 years! Seriously, if you scraping the bottom of the barrel it's time to stop! No not even 'The Expanse' lived up to the hype! Neither did the Mandalorian (or as I call it: Shittylorian!) or the Fallout show (bloody retcon and they destroyed Shady Sands because Toddy boy who can't tell good stories wants his perpetual wasteland, without any development, without civilization slowly making a return!)

West World, alternating w/ an episode by episode analysis by Alt Shift X, is an entirely different experience veritably overflowing with layers and information I wouldn't have picked up on unless I was actively studying to write a thesis. There's SO much more going on, and I've yet to see another channel that comes anywhere even close to the intelligence and observational nuance of Alt Shift X. Definitely worth watching again. (Shifty also does great work on ASoIaF lore and GoTs stuff, too).

I stumbled upon Alt Shift X attempting to watch West World again about 4 years ago and, wow, so much more enjoyable and rewarding, I was fascinated and utterly absorbed.

Obviously The Expanse should be rated near the top, if not at the top; and if you're planning on reading the books (which I would HIGHLY recommend; there are 9 of them, the first handful some of the best space-faring, hard sci fi I've EVER read, and it's my preferred genre), IMO/E, the only way to do it is to watch the series first and then enjoy the books; at least then the only thing that'll be ruined or marred is the fact that it's nearly impossible to imagine the characters differently than the actors from the show (and in some cases the casting was subpar or just wrong).

Severance was so drab and depressing that, even though I could tell there was promise from the first 20 minutes, I basically gave up on it before I'd gotten halfway through that first ep. Fortunately, at the pressing of my uncle who has always been a solid influence for me in terms of books/movies/tv, I went back and forced myself to watch enough to see the entire show didn't take place in that office, and I was richly rewarded by an amazing project.

Mandalorian, lmao, seriously? Andor is the only Star Wars show that has a place on this list.

I've just d/l'd Fallout, Foundation & The 3 Body Problem, so I cannot comment on those.

Dark is remarkably rad and, despite my preference for sci-fi being of the hard, space-faring variety, I really enjoyed it. Although I don't think I finished it at the time, so I've got that to watch, too, rad.

I may even go back and watch West World again at some point supplementing w/ the legendary Alt Shift X analyses.

The only catch to all these shows: terrible DEI casting. Otherwise, great!

What about Dark Frequency? 😊

Calls out "The Expanse" for "Drifting from the books" - glosses over "Foundation doesn't even bother paying lip-service to the books" (not in itself a bad thing, they were dry as dust and would make very tedious television).

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds(2022)
Star Trek: Picard(2020)
Dark Matter(2024)
The Book of Boba Fett (2021).
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022).
Andor (2022).
Ahsoka (2023).
Loki(2021)

Not putting The Expanse at #1 shows... well, yeah. At least you have Fallout at #2. Dark is good but unfortunbately starts to fall apart in season 3 but is excellent, mostly, I'd have it 2 or 3. Mandalorian is fun, great effects/budget but pretty simple story, top sci-fi always has depth. Reasonable list overall.
