Tom Brady Explains Why QB Audibles Win Games

Video Overview & Insights

Tom Brady says QB audibles are the difference between winning and losing.

The reason the Seahawks won this game.

So why were Lamar Jackson and CJ Stroud blocked from adjusting protections for years?

What You’ll Learn:

This guy glazes his self too much!

— @FSHG-777

• Why Brady made pre-snap reads his #1 priority

• How Lamar Jackson and CJ Stroud were limited early in their careers

I’m a Chargers fan. It’s Jan 2026 and I’m watching this right after we got our butts kicked by the Patriots by only scoring 3 lousy points. Greg Roman was terrible but I guess Herbert also needs to make more pre-snap adjustments if he’s going to be an elite QB.

• Why QB adjustments decide success against blitzes and disguised coverages

• The hidden chess match between offensive coordinators and quarterbacks

Didn't like him as a player but the dude is a QB genius.

it seems like far too many teams ask the QB to simply run the play called.

Is their any other sport as complicated as football? This sport is immersed in nuances that require understanding, and adjustment. This is truly a thinking mans game.

This explains why someone like Brady is a legendary QB and why someone like a Kaepernick is a phenomenal athlete in the QB position. Not that I want to bag on CK but he's the first name that comes to mind.

He’s been criticized for his meh work as a commentator on live games and that may be justified —I haven’t watched any, to be honest. But boy, he is excellent at this, when he is given time to go on a topic to explain the nuances of what it is actually like to play the game at an elite-pro level.

I’ve been a Patriots fan since 1975. The year they went 1&15 I watched every game. I’m pretty sure I watched every game Mr. Brady played in. I’ve always said this is what separates him from all the other quarterbacks. He was reading the defense as he was walking to the line of scrimmage. The offensive play would often have say a first, second and third read and maybe a check down. Even when he didn’t audible he knew, hey they have the first read covered so he would automatically go to the next read before the ball was snapped. Obviously he would also audible at the line of scrimmage but he could read the defense so fast that he was quickly able to change the play as he discussed here. Football is so different from any other sport. In some ways it’s like ballet, in some ways it’s like chess and in some ways it’s trench warfare. Every position group has its own skill sets and techniques. It’s awesome and Brady was the goat.

This is why it's important to have a White QB 🤣🤣

Why the great quarterbacks are all white. It’s a cerebral position not one built for the “athlete” with legs

Obviously and logically the audibles are important. QB and also the entire OL can see something that the coach on the side can not. Same thing with the Defense.

I know all the readings under 20s are tough but this is what Football all about, strategy to get points. So again it's logical that you make changes either on offense and defense if you get info that something might be fishy.

It's not just run the route and pray. Adaptations within the play have to be done. Exp: When you see your QB scramble you need to help him by moving to where there might be a good pass so you get let's say 5y instead of none. This can be the difference on the drive to get a TD or a FG or nothing.

I can't believe some coaches just say what he said, that shows no passion at all for what you're doing. It's sad, bc there are people that who love the game and would love to coach it or play it with heart until they can't no more!

All downs are important, every yard is important!

Blessings

There’s so, so much to admire about Tom but the thing that always gets to me is when he was asked who his hero is he said his father. Talk about a guy with a moral backbone.

Worst trend in modern football is the egomaniac coaches demanding to call every play. In reality, you need to teach the QB to run the offense, not be some robotic extension of the OC. This is actually regression. Consider that Bart Starr called every offensive play for the Packers and most of the guys in the 70s and 80s (and even 90s) could run the offense.

It must have been quite hard at times playing with him as a team mate.

There was a season where the scenario was something like patriots in the 2nd or 3rd seed in a late season game up by something ridiculous like 30 with a few minutes left and bill told tom he was going to pull him and take a knee sportsmanship. And Brady told him no, and then said we are professionals we get paid to score, paid to win. And they get paid to stop us. Im going out we are going to go get another touchdown and another if we can. If they dont like it they can stop it. But if we get into a 3 way tie for the 1 seed in the conference, the 5th tiebreaker down or something is points scored.. foot on the neck. (I gave the outline of the story i dont remember exacts. )

this was 65% of TB12's greatness. No one prepared and studied at the level he did off the field so at game time he and his team were prepared to make these adjustments. He played chess while the opponents were playing checkers.

@Axeom
@

Look out for CJ Stroud this year. With Nick Caley as the new OC, we should be seeing a lot of audibles, opposed to Bobby picking 1 play & forcing it.
