Such an outside of the scope thought but it would be remarkable to be able to really look at a capture of yourself via a vr headset, from outside of just the perspective of a mirror, like to see yourself how every other person views you or like the idea of seeing a clone of yourself and is a mind blowing concept. Or even that you could have captures of your relatives to be able to view after a passing and to show your kids literally what they looked like standing in front of them.

i feel like AI could easily fix the multiple cameras issue. can't wait for a system that recreates a whole scene from every angle and turns it into a splat. could be also used for infinite details. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY

I think it's fundamentally wrong to call them holograms. Holograms would be projected in the real world, and I honestly don't think that's even physically possible to do with a 3D image like that.

I've learned about Gaussian splats in a 3D CV course I had, but they somehow failed to mention that THEY RENDER IN REAL TIME IN A FREAKING BROWSER? WHAT? This is literally groundbreaking, how is this not discussed everywhere? You could make a render of your apartment and let people walk through it on AirBnb or Booking com right in their browsers, you could scan your products to let people view it from any angle on online marketplaces, you could make photorealistic videogame shaders a lot more accessible... This is breathtaking, thank you so much for sharing this tech, Wren!!

I do gaussian splatting on a macbook, and if you're wondering what software i use, it's "annx studio" and it all works in the app, no external softwares needed.
