The War on Fixing Your Own Car
Video Overview & Insights
The fight for ownership and the right to repair continues. Ford, General Motors, and Roger Penske met with President Trump to discuss right to repair. They want legislation that would prohibit vehicle owners as well as independent mechanics from fixing their vehicles. Ford CEO Jim Farley wants only Ford trained technicians to work on their vehicles, claiming this is because of “safety and vehicle complexity,” but it's the car manufacturers themselves making the vehicles require special tools and building them in a way that makes it hard even for their own technicians to fix.
I quit America. Not buying American anymore.
And about the safety, in 1971 Ford released the Pinto and a leaked memo shows they knew the vehicles were faulty. But rather than spend $11 per vehicle to fix them, they concluded it would be cheaper to fight wrongful death claims in court. Fast forward to today, and they currently have an active recall on the 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport for a cracked fuel injector that leads to the vehicles catching on fire. Despite knowing about this for over a year, they claim they're still developing a remedy…
It's not about complexity or putting people's lives at risk. It's about wanting recurring income through overpriced parts and labor, and to ensure we pay their prices, they want to take away our right to repair our own vehicles.
I have always defended the big 3 and how big of an asset they are to this nation, but if they are going to do this... just let the china ev's in

The Ford Pinto and not mentioned, Ford Maverick, didn't have leaking gas tanks. The cars had the fuel tank directly in back of the rear bumper. When the cars were rear-ended, they were prone to blowing up. That being said, it was a good video. Thanks.

Hey folks the power of ownership can be used on that illegal market. Sending out lawsuits to all car companies on the legal right after paying it is yours by a law this is how the world worked for ever since the dollar system started. If these companies want to jail you as a constitutional right hey that means you can sue that police department also. In fact the Judge would be illegal also.
The power of ownership is that you own it and it belongs to you after the dealership makes the sale or has changed it's sale meaning without the proper change then yes everything about this whole deal is all illegal all directions.
Here is the truth you can in fact work on those cars and trucks without worry if you go to jail for it higher a damn good constitutional lawyer it's time to bring the high court system back into play and stop using the low courts as they are ran by a corrupt system by demoncrats to let criminals win and the innocent suffer. So start using the Law's of the Land which are within the United states constitution and it's supreme rulings by the supreme judges these are the final laws of the highest court. If they turn on us too the world will be no more democracy or good just pure evil and worse then we can imagine Tyranny + more.
Middle fingers to the Car companies ,,!,, enjoy the freedom not by another man's choice. Real freedom is Free Will given by a God not by a peice of shit lowlife human.

16:06 Car Manufacturers Don’t Want You to Fix Your Car
As a mechanic who’s worked at various dealerships my buddy and I have a saying
“Flat-rate pay is based on the lie that if you work quickly and efficiently you can make hours. But, the company doesn’t want to pay in the first place. And, if it’s warranty - you’re doing it for free.”
Fix cars as a hobby not as a career.

Add to that tariffs on imported cars. 125% for Chinese and 25% on European. So you are practically forced to buy American whether you like it or not. One of these things would have been enough. If the US car manufacturers essentially get a monopoly, they can earn enough that the government could force them to anything. I'm dissappointed in Trump. This is very unamerican. This move are more akin to communist nations. This is the stuff that will sway people back to democrats again. Very stupid. If the car manufacturers can't produce what people want for a decent price, then they need use all that moneys to change and deliver what people want/need, not run to Trump and beg to restrict consumer freedoms.

I'm in my 30's and figured this out about 2 decades ago. Just fix your own car. It'll save you thousands if not tens of thousands over the years.
Currently doing repairs on my Subaru Legacy 2012. Parts I'm replacing are below. It's cost me about $1,500 in parts and tools. A mechanic would have charged easily double this. I just need to get the car aligned.
Front:
Control arms
Ball Joints
Brake pads / rotors
sway bar end links
Inner / out Tie Rods
CV Axle
Don't buy ford
@MultiBart99My 1989 VW Jetta broke finally down in 2011, with 440.000+ km on the counter. It had three colours, because of the body parts I replaced myself, with ordinary screwdrivers and a wrench. I've had to change the battery ONCE. Four bolts. The gearbox broke down somewhere between 2000/2002 - my friend, an amateur mechanic, replaced it. SInce then I didn't bought a 'new car' - I just ride my 1999 bike, and if I find one day a car built before 1998, I will consider buying it. If it's not too expensive, because VW's (Golf II, III and IV), BMW's (E30,E36) and Mercs (the 190! what a car!!) go here easily for 7000€. That's because everybody starts to get fed up with those Google machines on wheels. Ten years ago you could get a BMW 316i for 1500€. My dream car however is a Lada Niva. You can laugh, but it's indestructible, sturdier than a Hilux.
@svenbras6735I drive only old cars.
@ajetiajeti2126Go back to horses. They can graze while you're working in the office and they gallop back home at 5:30.
@AlexBunda-sn5ynSTOP BUYING NEW CARS. A period without sales and manufacturers will submit
@timesurfingalienall you have to do is sue them its that easy then send them a cease order for misconduct and controlling the freedom of citizens these are all against the federal and consumer protection laws its pretty cut and dry if you start suing the china owned car companies because they are all doing chinas bidding just sue just trust me get rid of your new cars stay to the 1970' to 2009 years no higher you have a giant opportunity to set back car companys for decades and actually destroy some of them off the map which do you want do you want to be compliant you shouldn't be you can hire pwn society on google to help bully these people the deal with corruption
@Robert-m7s2jMake no mistake, this is by design.
@soulsbourishjunky6046Stop giving them money at all then. Don't buy their shit and let them squirm.
@Decadent_DescentI would NEVER buy a ford again. The quality is GARBAGE. And that goes for a lot of other cars as well. A New car company would do well to make very simple plug and play cars. That’s why electric cars are much simpler. The new ones have motors in the wheel and a battery. Can’t wait for Slate.
@zeecee5881You also need specialized software to analyze and reprogram the computer systems. For independent shops that means they have to purchase expensive software subscriptions for each brand of car they fix. A few shops I know will now only work on certain brands newer than a given year.
@rksnj67972:05 well, now we know he is incompetent.
@RowganlifeIf it's yours you can burn it.
Don't listen to stupid news.
1:56 - This is how you know he's lying: Warranty work is free. The biggest reason RTR is a huge fight right now is because we can't (and don't want to) afford the exorbitant parts and labor rates, very little of which goes to the actual person putting in all the labor for the actual time it took, which is not the same as the book rate and that's a whole other argument (thank you for touching on this).
We didn't ask for all the tech. We didn't ask for the car to take over drivers' tasks. We didn't ask for subscriptions for heated seats in cars that already possess the heating components. I didn't ask for rock cameras on the new Bronco, Mr. Farley. I have the ability to get out and look for myself and I still function even when covered in mud.
LKQ and private equity-owned car dismantlers are just as bad as dealership conglomerates. I highly suggest that if you're not willing to sell your newer car and buy something older, you need to be familiar with the salvage and pick-a-part yards in your area.
also a war on owning an older more reliable fixable enjoyable vehicle
@longhairscorpio39761:07 im an at-home mechanic iand i LOVE that this lady fixed the visor herself and felt the joy of fixing your own vehicle! keep goin, lady!

@idkThatsJustMeThey mark up more than 200-800%. More like 8000% on some items.
I had to replace a very small, simple peice of plastic for my mustang seat release, so someone can get in the back. Probably .20 cents worth of plastic. They wanted $48.
i dont want all the major car companies to go out of business...but, sometimes it seems like they want to.

@Jerry-t2r5lThinking I might get lucky having bought a 2025 BMW M440i as my dream car after driving a 2008 Ford since forever, and already (and I’m not kidding), the dash... the actual instrument cluster with the speedometer and all that... well, it has this random bug where it goes full black while actually driving. Mind you, it goes completely dark for less than a second, but it's long enough to notice and freak me out.
I hope it gets patched, but it has definitely made me more paranoid about updates than not. Will a new one break it even more? Will it brick it? Who knows! :))) Though I have stopped updates for now until I feel adventurous again.
