I'm actually impressed with the USA team. They don't look like kids that picked up football because their mom made them do something on Sundays anymore. Still, it is too early to consider it a dangerous team unless they make it into the round of last 16, that's when the World Cup becomes brutal and fun and you can be considered menace.

I don’t like soccer. I haven’t had ANY respect for most of the past teams. But this team? Yeah, I can get behind this group. Yeah, it's a TEAM sport. I'd rather have a team that plays great together, than a team with a couple superstars trying to be the hero. I'm no soccer fan, but v. Paraguay, I saw team US always aggressive, always on the attack, and preferring to take the percentages and shots on goal, rather than spending time trying to set up fancy set piece plays. It's kind of like "if you've got the ball, go to goal, force the defense to react and try to stop you, and take a shot". Soccer is like baseball, it's a percentages sport more than anything else. Take more shots on goal, and the odds are you'll end up as the team with more goals in the game. It's just that.

1994 was awesome! I was 15 and playing Varsity HS and Travel club teams. Alexi Lalas was so cool even though I played mid-right or a bit of forward. I got bigger and became center half and scored a lot of goals at 17 there. He was my role model, and in college I moved to full where I hurt people. Man, 1994 was a cool team.
