The impact of AI on cybersecurity roles is accelerating rapidly. We are already seeing advanced AI models identify vulnerabilities in legacy systems that have gone undetected for decades. Cybersecurity professionals will need to evolve into subject matter experts in AI integration, with a specific focus on deploying and securing local AI models to maintain data privacy. It is highly likely that every organization will soon require its own localized, autonomous AI security agent.

This shift means the industry must transition toward treating AI as a collaborative force multiplier. Academic institutions must update their cybersecurity curricula. A traditional Bachelor’s degree in this field is quickly losing its edge if it relies on outdated coursework. If a program only covers foundational, routine tasks that modern AI can readily automate, it offers diminishing value to students. To remain relevant, higher education must pivot toward teaching AI administration, advanced threat hunting, and the strategic oversight of automated systems.

These people with all of the certs going into Tier 1 are making a mistake. You can get good jobs in Telecom and then once you get a lot of experience then you should look at the higher tiers in Cyber security. Exactly what I am doing I have been in 911 Network Operations now looking to move into Cyber, just not the lower Tier1

I have 9 years of manual and automation testing experience do you think it's right time to switch or should I learn devops and then move to cybersecurity? Anythoughts brother?

I reached rank 923 (Global) on HackTheBox. No Certificate, No Bachelors, just plane interest that sparked a year ago. I'm thinking about getting a Cybersecurity bachelor but everyone is telling me to do IT or Computer Science instead. The thing is - I don't really enjoy these broad generic modules. I enjoy hacking, cybersecurity topics, coding my own tools and doing fancy reverse shells.

Should I opt for a specialized degree in that matter because I know that I only want to do that or should I still go for the generic IT degree. I work in the meantime as an Engineer rn (mostly with electronic components) and I would love to get some feedback for my specific case.

Thank you very much.

3:16 – The Reality of the Entry-Level Cyber Job Market

You message is misleading, you don't need all those learning to land a job. Those certs are too expensive and it's illogical to think you need to have all those certs before landing a cyberscurify job. Most important thing is to know how to use the tools in

Definitely agree, looking back I wish I started in IT, Sys Admin roles before getting into cybersecurity. There’s much more you can learn in those roles about the tooling before trying to secure the system.

Great video Jake! Keep an eye on fiuinito!! Lol!

Jake, now that you have sysadmin experience, what do you think you are drawn to the most in the industry if when you decide to move forward?

@Jlyoder21
@

ol jake sounding like a boomer saying you gotta start from the bottom and build yourself up! its so true tho. I want to start help desk to learn

@Jlyoder21
@

I hope I could be a security engineer one day, is the analyst path the only way to it?

@daminmohsin6866
@

Just started a job in a help desk position for a great company that hires and promotes from within, def taking your advice and taking it slow to see what I really like, I wanted to do cyber but i think network is pretty cool so far as well.

@grimeyreaper21
@

Great video I’m still trying to finish up my Google it support course I’m going into the security part in a couple days . I believe you would do great at merging your education background with your IT experience after you had a few more years under your belt you definitely could become someone who teaches this because it needs more people that can make tech simpler or more abstract. The Google course is supposed to be basic but I find it difficult to learn tech all together.

@brandonlamar4041

I'm 19 and a couple months ago was put in charge of absolutely everything IT and security for a moderate size manufacturing company, I only have A+ and am working on CCNA, I originally wanted to do cyber but now I have zero clue where I'm going

@moosedoggy
@

Yea, I definitely specialized too quickly lol. I had about 2 years exp on the help desk before joining security, now I'm stuck in the analyst black hole.

@BlackCondor88
@

Agree with everything you said. I started working on my degree at WGU for Cybersecurity. I chose this because of the depth and variety of certifications. I realized that Cybersecurity has tons of branches. To really stand out, I need to specialize - and I’m not there yet. I have learned and experienced a lot, and I do not regret one moment - except not starting sooner!

I like the idea but , i want cyber mostly for job stability . I am doing a masters in cyber sec and i have a comptia sec+ . i am passionate for the field personally i left law school for it , But a job to me is a way to fund my hobbies like gaming . Cyber is mostly about investigating events to find what happened how they did and when. its knowing how things work and what tools to use to find the information u need about events . Also its about explaining to none technical people technical problems in none technical way. So its boring office work but i like that . i just need a job that gives me work life balance and enough money to fund my hobbies so it works for me . Also learning about how things work like networks protocols and tools its so fun to me. so yeah cyber in blue team is not the hacker u see in movies, even in red team its all about rules of engagement and documentation so Microsoft word is your best friend in any path in the Cyber Sec industry .
