In this Our Changing Climate environmental video essay, I look at the environmental and social cost of the military and militarism. I narrow in on the United States military-industrial complex because it is by far the biggest military machine in the world. I look at how the military and the military-industrial complex is a massive polluter in terms of both emissions and chemical waste. In addition, the video looks at whether or not these environmental and monetary burdens caused by the military-industrial complex are justified. Have the multitude of wars the United States has wage been just, or are they manifestations of imperialism. Ultimately, the video connects environmental destruction with military imperialism and concludes that demilitarization is the only truly effective answer to the carbon footprint of the military.

It's also cause there's too much vanity from some Americans to have the best, strongest, and biggest military. Look at the comments on DW Planet A on ships dumping their bilge into the ocean. Military people do it too and toss their trash into the ocean too. A comment on DW also said some military people needlessly toss away good things on purpose to try to justify needing so much tax money. That's greed. And prevent funds to help the citizens more who need it.
Thanks for this video. It's hard to criticize the military. Especially when they use ptsd and that they "protect people" to shame critics and criticism. I'm not saying we shouldn't care about ptsd but I'm talking about using that to dodge criticism. Which there's already many people blindly praising the military too much.
I suggest not joining the military to avoid ptsd. I heard the military abuses members.
I'm glad you mention the military take too much tax money away from helping the citizens.
Some people join the military for a free home and food. Then why not just help the citizens and poor instead? Including creating walkability and transit cause not everyone can afford a car, gas, maintenance, and insurance, or should have to.

Some foreigners say they want foreign soldiers and countries to leave and not meddle. I'm not saying they're all right or wrong, just something to consider.

Camp Lejeune only counts the military presence in the people effected by their pollution, but the contamination doesn't end at their armored gates. It extends far into our community and is seeping into the river, then the ocean, and then the intracoastal waterway--washing the base's toxins away for the rest of the world to deal with. This is much larger than the "170k" lives they count. This is all of us.

Lastly, the US made sooo many... acquiantences during these 80 years of harassment that they simply cannot afford to not be constantly armed to the teeth and always pressuring them into silence or submission. almost none of the climate change talks mentions a single thing about this. They talk about electric cars, renewable energy, mass transit, better farming practices...all of these things are great but you cannot overlook the military industrial complex

@petarjovicic3311Why does it seem as no-one got this on their mind? You've hinted at it, but I'd definitely add the emissions of the military manufacturing, especially the heavy industry. This is particularly important to countries like Germany which obviously isn't close to the US military spending (though still to high) but exports a lot of weapons and thereby is very damaging as well

@optillian4182Let's not forget how much of the military's budget goes to contractors who are usually proir service members but going private they can charge the military double or more of what they made while in. The contracting space is ridiculous
