The Thursday Murder Club | Official Trailer | Netflix
Video Overview & Insights
Four irrepressible retirees spend their time solving cold case murders for fun, but their causal sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Based on Richard Osman’s bestselling novel.
I read all 4 books excellent! Very creative, definitely new approach for senior characters & supporting characters.

About Netflix:
So, I want a movie focused solely on the relationship between the ex-agent and her husband, as well as her friendship with the Polish man. The Polish character was beautifully portrayed — such a great actor.
The former boxer’s storyline feels distracting and unnecessary. There are so many more interesting ways they could have explored his relationship with himself and with his father.
The nurse’s story — and the actress who played her — were amazing.
The psychiatrist was a lovely anchoring character and also very important to the movie as a whole.
Honestly, the villain and the ex-boxer elements are not cohesive. They feel poorly intended or poorly directed compared to the rest of the movie. Those parts seem below the level of the other performances and storylines in the film.
The old senile man playing chess gives the best performance in the film. All of his interactions, the cinematography around him, and the actor himself were outstanding.
I might watch the movie again while skipping the ex-boxer scenes and the villain’s parts — who, by the way, reminds me too much of Crawley.
All of Helen Mirren’s scenes are amazing. Her interactions with the policewoman were especially compelling. An entire movie centered on that relationship would be fascinating — exploring how an honest friendship could develop there, especially with the psychiatrist and the nurse involved as well.
I think this would work much better as a series than as a movie. A series would allow the writers to properly develop all the storylines, including the ex-boxer and the villain, perhaps with less focus on the actors themselves and more on the characters.
The movie tries to cover too much ground, and as a result, some parts feel underdeveloped or mediocre. In a series format, each storyline could properly blossom, because the potential is definitely there.
Wow, I almost forgot the florist. What a great twist, what a great performance, and such lovely details: the roses, the scissors, the tattoos, the blood on his hands, the old man. A powerful woman confronting real evil.
And the cold case, woman in a white dress, has so much potential on its own. What a twist — and what a moral dilemma. That powerful woman in hospice care carrying such a story was fascinating.
This movie does an amazing job of showing how life continues in old age. One day, I would love to retire to a place like that — or even live in a community like that earlier in life. It feels like such a healthy, social environment, a place where people never stop learning and growing.

So basically a rip off of only murders in the building, and Hollywood always making man hating movies, with all the women are so smart they're arrogant and the men are dumb 👎 👎 and you wonder why Warner Brothers & Paramount went had to be sold off....... @maryrussell6072Just watched this movie, it's amazing movie..and so hilarious 😂🎉
@δηλητήριο-ξ7γMost retired people in the UK do not live in ultra palatial mansions, thinking they can outsmart trained detectives. Britain can produce good films and of course has splendid actors. This mess is not a good film and the acting, especially by Celia Imrie, is dreadful.
@Targe123After long time a movie that was absolutely like my test
@mrslutfunnesa436need more movies like this.
@mai99zI really want them to make a sequel, it's a lot of fun

@KW2524-NC0:33 $172,060.99 not stock of course. I once owned a 2007 Porsche Cayman S edition. Sad part for the an engine that had piston and excessive oil use.

This is a really great movie. The only thing that makes me sad is that this might be the last time we get to see this ensemble together.

[Ref: Quran - Hud - the prophet Hud, surah 011]
Brilliant actors, ill fitting their characters, and a complete travesty of a production. So disappointing.
@johnwlampAs a fan of detective movies especially murder cases, as much as this movie lacks of the focus and suspense in the plot, this scratched the itch somehow compared to others this year.
@fiqipraramadhanTHIS IS VERY GOOD. HAVE WATCHed IT. NO CAP.
.
Oh... I actually very like donna and hudson dynamic
Seems like an movie with a decent cast-OH MY IS THAT TOM ELLIS!
@ethangamer579Excellent Film
@groz417Lucifer's here!!
@catherinachristian3984I loved Thursdays Murders Club, and also Only Murders in the Building as well as "A man on the inside" with Ted Danson. The only thing I disliked in the THC was that they made the guy who killed the first guy Polish. Why would a Pole be an illegal migrant in UK in 2023? It felt more like a 1990's stereotype.
@maspalfikerGreat Actors in a crappy show...
@edmondgreaneyI loved it!
@EvitaP25The movie is good in itself, but they twisted the book so much and I'm so disappointed about it.
@slaniburek123Love it. I watch it over and over again
@dinanadiGlad you like MY books
@LandonJennings-v4dOver the hill copy cats
@LandonJennings-v4dAre those Maeve and Conrad?
@mulyasarianissa9160Though it was a mystery piece, it lacked any truly subversive twists that completely overturned expectations. In other words, it contained many rather clichéd elements. However, the film's true subject matter and core isn't the mystery itself. It's about characters entering their twilight years harnessing their special skills to strive for and pool their efforts towards what they love and what they need. 'Seniors can do anything!' It struck me as a blessing that, even as grandmothers and grandfathers, they know what they love and what they're good at, and above all, have companions and friends who support each other, enabling them to turn these things into action.
The difficulty level of the mystery wasn't high. Of course, the basic relationships between the characters weren't exactly simple, so I had to make an effort to grasp the names and characteristics of the characters who appeared in rapid succession early on. However, the subsequent unfolding of events (though I must admit I wasn't actively deducing as I watched, so I didn't predict any twists) felt like a repetition of a somewhat familiar formula, and the twists themselves were rather predictable. To be more specific, the degree of surprise was weak. In truth, my suspicions were aroused when the character Bogdan appeared and Elizabeth approached him, and the outcome largely matched my hunch. Had I hoped for a truly shocking twist, he should not have been the culprit. Furthermore, the characters felt flat and overly virtuous, leaving a bland impression.
This marks director Chris Columbus's return to ensemble comedy and mystery after a long hiatus. From the outset, he aimed for a 'detective story with the humour and dignified warmth of old age', exploring later life and friendship through a 'cozy mystery' sensibility. Original author Richard Osmond actively participated in script meetings, advising to maintain 'a story where the elderly actively pursue justice rather than passively observing the world'. The director incorporated this advice, focusing more on character-driven narrative than the murder mystery itself.
Helen Mirren, playing Elizabeth, was dubbed 'the leader of the Thursday Club' on set. She led daily script readings with the cast before filming, and the director credited her with bringing the film's tone to life in interviews. Pierce Brosnan, as Ron, frequently improvised lines during filming, lifting the atmosphere on set. Some of these impromptu exchanges made it into the final cut unedited. Columbus revealed that his humor transformed the tense mystery into one filled with warm laughter. Ben Kingsley, renowned for his perfectionism that demands multiple takes for even the smallest gesture, practised deliberately botching tasks to capture the frail, human side of his elderly character. After the final shoot, Helen Mirren reflected on social media that the set felt more fun and liberating than any she'd experienced in her youth. Chris Columbus mentioned he hoped the film would remain, until the very end, not a puzzle but a letter of gratitude for life.
The main setting, Silver Town Cooper's Chase, was newly built on a set in the outskirts of Buckinghamshire, England, and operated like a community with around 200 real senior extras living there. Columbus explained he made the characters appear like a genuine community living together even off-camera. Compared to the original work, the level of violence was reduced, with greater emphasis placed on friendship, humor, the loneliness of old age, and recovery rather than the murder itself. He stated that the result was an intentional genre experiment aiming for a warm tension rather than pure horror.
This was not only a great cast it was excellent. This needs to become a series ❤.
@RobertGoulashwhy the of the soccer match on tv at 1h50 are that smalls?
