As well rank virtue with vice, truth and right, with falsehood and wrong. But their character is too well known to merit much description, and this must give way to more important discussion. When done, the deed is irrecoverable; therefore the project should be crushed now, and Texas, at all hazards, union or no union, should be, must be kept out.! Whomever that informs himself in the first cause and support of the Texans are at heart a slave holder, and his cry of liberty in Texas in the very quintessence of hypocrisy! Will you willingly hug a viper to your own bosom? Remonstrate to every hall of congress by the millions, oppose the Texas annexation in a stern unified manner or you sign at once by that event the death warrant of American freedom. That union would live out a short existence afterwards but it would be like a man after 70, who would rather moan and groan than live. If anyone is unhappy with the land founded by the Penns, the Adams the Washington or the Jeffersons, and deem Texas, the land of the Houston’s, Bartow, and Swarthout and Company more suiting, bone of their bone, they are at liberty to do so, the sooner the better, and let them find themselves a more suitable environment with their blood stained sister territory “the lost star state”, Texas is just the place for them.

My 4x great grandmother is Elizabeth Deardroff George Hoskins. Her first husband was James George. James supplied the ox and yoke to move the Gonzalez cannon during the battle of Gonzalez. Elizabeth's brother William Deardroff my 4x great uncle and James George where apart of the Immortal 32. Obviously they both died at the Alamo. Elizabeth and her children then fled during the runway scrape. She came back to settle along Plum Creek. After losing James at the Alamo she married two more times. Her third and final husband was my 4x great grandfather Thomas Hoskins. Thomas was himself a extremely intreasting character. He was an outlaw, a degenerate gambler, drunk and a Murderer. He was one of the first inmates to serve time at Huntsville state penitentiary. Thomas and his son JT my 3x great grandfather fought on the side of the Confederacy in the civil war. My family's history runs deep in Texas. My cousin Janet Hoskins Dickerson wrote a great book on our families extensive history in texas between 1830-1930 called Fast Horses.

Just a small correction.. Anahuac was settled in 1736, well before the date you cited. The Fort may not have been built until 1825, but it was built in an already existing community.

The cunning of the Texans in the face of the honor shown by the Mexicans makes it difficult to see them as the good guys if you look at this any other way than a band of rebels fighting a band of usurpers who overthrew first the legitimate Spanish government and then the already illegitimate interim government of Mexico
