As someone who grew up in the cartridge and later cd era of videogames, i can't emphasize enough how rewarding it is to buy and play retro games today. Besides subscription shenanigans, always online and live services, and the fact that AI is actively trying to ruin modern gaming, and it feels so freeing to set your phone to charge on a counter away from you, turn on your tv and fire up your ps2 or snes or what have you and just enjoy an amazing classic game as it was designed. Most likely the same company's newest most selling release is a remaster of that same game anyway, why not enjoy it in original hardware on a CRT and away from phones and internet?

12:05 music lovers who may not love as much the people that make it... who definitely benefit the ultimate least from everyone involved in this transaction. Bandcamp isn't perfect but it's a great alternative to support artists, buy their physical releases, have streaming access to their music, and you can download the album in mp3, wav, or flac thus actually owning the digital files :)

about that sponsorship:
chrome does most of that already
zen (the one im using), does most of it too (in fact, i think it does more of the features listed than chrome, at the cost of firefox instead of chromium, and the fact its unfinished and a bit buggy)
as for subscriptions, i just dont pay (whenever i can, i cant exactly avoid all subscriptions with little tricks and/or exploits)
youtube primium? nah
spotify? nah, yt exists
netflix? nah, yt exists
ads on all my phone apps? adblocker that blocks adds on everything besides stuff like yt and spotify (they use a different add format)
something that wont work without a subscription that i need? (for example, photoshop, or a software with built in limits i need a subscription to bypass), alternatives exist (like gimp)

You can buy nearly every TV show ever made on DVD and own it. Start buying vinyl records for your music. Stop paying for Amazon prime every month and just go to your local store for things. It isn't hard to get rid of your subscription life style.

Even Physical Items Have Subscriptions Now: 15:02
I got so tired of Xbox, I havnt had them for years and I refuse to buy any game for my ps5 if it isnt all on the disc and accessible offline. On my PC I only buy drm free GOG music that doesn't require crap like EA or Ubisoft as a side loading app

Bro imma only subscribe to smt I can physically touch or go, like gym or tennis club memberships… if it’s social yeah it makes sense, but subscriptions making u spend more time by a sceeen literally hold your life back… and I get music on iTunes and listen to radio, duhhh
The REAL Reason This Business Model Exists: 17:07
Minimalism Is Kind Of BS: 17:50
the adobe cloud system is even more devious than what you outlined.
they actively give out free copies for art students to use AS LONG AS THEY ARE IN SCHOOL. meaning you will spend all your formative years learning how to use adobe products, and then once that is over they cut you off and you have to purchase their products or your schooling years were for nothing

I hate how I pay for Netflix and then they just strip my favourite shows off of their platform. But there's no way I could just buy that show on dvd. So what shall I do then??
Topics: why you don't own anything under capitalism, why gen z is so poor, why gen z can't buy home, the death of ownership, the death of owning video games
We are all dealing with this nonsense, but perhaps it would be wise for the "I'll never own anything" crew to stop trying to keep up.
More User Perspectives
Gen Z complaining about high prices and greedy corporations.
Also Gen Z: buying their overpriced goods and fuelling the fire.

@Kitun-eI purchase physical media as much as i can.
@RATIONALSATANISTBut this was a video about sneezing and farting at the same time
@SnandPocoOnly a idiot pays 1000 a year on all these different services that they don’t have time to watch all
@mathiaswilhelm1902I'm a millenial minimalist, and I got rid of my subscriptions three years ago. Now I buy physical games, books, records, and CD's. These things are important enough to me to own and not just pay for limited time "access" like I'm playing DDR at Dave & Buster's. Over the years, I've saved money owning instead of subscribing. I consume less, but I appreciate more.
Subscriptions make art feel worthless while owning gives the pomp and circumstance that art deserves.
You're right that owning nothing to achieve enlightenment is bullsh*t, but minimalism isn't about owning nothing; it's about only owning the things that you actually care about.
Great video!
14:03 We've found him! The one person in the world that uses Adobe's terrible cloud storage!
@cosmodious1755I know someone with 9 millions followers apologize and delete your fake telegram accounts that you use to scam and have peoplesubtibe to your channel with or you're going viral
@annatuck7649As far as physical copies of books, DVDs and CDs they are better quality and more enjoyable.
@Jessicab-u7cSaying "Buy these softwares" makes me wince
@33andy33gmailIt’s not just Gen Z pls bfr
@ST57187Beside Pimsleur and kindle unlimited I dropped all my subscriptions.
@ChundarrofSmegThat’s odd I don’t subscribe to anything that not free.
@Woopwoopwoop01What was once a reality to buy a house, get married, have kids, and plan for retirement.
Is now a fairytale made up by boomers and Disney.
What is economics up to these days?😒
@WestEuropeanMappingAnd they wonder why sailing is making a comeback
@Mostly_GaminggIf no one bought subscription games, the business model would die. But people don't have the commitment or the patience to make that sacrifice. They just complain while simultaneously handing over their cash.
@HumanitiesTeacher-n2dEven Cloud storage and social media verification have a subscription now 😭
@jojo_r4bbitGonna sound stupid, whenever I find a series I really like, I tape them as I watch them. VHS. Yes, it's lucky if it's comparable to 360i, and yes, I use the SLP/EP speed so I can cram 8 hours onto a tape, but I have a copy in case I want to watch it again and the show has been pulled. Then at some point (usually overnight because... 8 hours.) I convert the tape to digital. So long as I don't duplicate them or sell them, I see no legal difference between that and taping OTA or cable.
@I_Really_Enjoy_Not_Seeing_YouThe only subscription im paying for now, is pretty much just apple music i listen to multiple of genres from time to time and i think that is the only thing that is worth it.
@freddyhuang2037You nailed it here! Some of my friends laugh at me because I have loads of concert DVD's from bands I love just because I can then watch them whenever I want. One time no-one had internet at our region and still, I could enjoy my concerts because it was DVD. 😂👍
@yourivandermeer892SO GLAD I DON'T have Any of these
@dadirtyone1461This is so eye-opening. Glad I still have my DVDs in case the power goes out.
@toukendanshiwarriorThis is why I prefer physical copies than downloads
@RyanmanificationAlso, like, libraries? Are free???
@julianikolich8400So how can I buy albums and have them on my phone permanently?
