The skill of self confidence | Dr. Ivan Joseph | TEDxRyersonU

Video Overview & Insights

Onest intelligence , maturity is freedom , that only God can take it away from you. ( confidence, truthfully heart are painful characters, but they are worth).

Bragging attention is the root of ignorance.
Thank you Sr. I’m blessed to find you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

— @isabelsjfl94

As the Athletic Director and head coach of the Varsity Soccer team at Ryerson University, Dr. Joseph is often asked what skills he is searching for as a recruiter: is it speed? Strength? Agility? In Dr. Joseph's TEDx Talk, he explores self confidence and how it is not just the most important skill in athletics, but in our lives.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

We build our self confidence
We get to the stage and our mind starts playing a trick on us
With"they are looking at you,you can't do this well"then you begin to trample
We should be the controller of our mind not the other round
If we hear this intuition then it is left for us to follow it or get it off our minds and do it

self confidence :
- practice
- repetition
- after failure, still practice and repetition, and presistance
- get out there, do what you wanna do, and don't except no
- stop the negative self talk. do it, self affirmation to ourselves : I am the captain of my ship, and the master of my faith
- praise the good, catch them when they're good : good job! you did good!
- believe in ur self

Dr. Joseph's repetition principle is powerful but here's the underrated application — repetition in writing builds confidence just like it does in speech. Every day I rewrite a paragraph using BeLikeNative, a Chrome extension that paraphrases with keyboard shortcuts. Seeing my ideas expressed in progressively better English literally rewired my self-belief about my language ability.

Getting away from criticism isn’t the best option, learn how to take criticism and not feel bad about yourself because there’s a lot of people who criticize others so running away won’t help, learn to face it and not let it bring u down. Even the ones that constantly criticize can have something to learn from

Confidence is something that develops over time, not something people are simply born with. I agree that taking action and facing challenges helps build real self-confidence.From my experience, confidence grows when you step out of your comfort zone and try new things. In my opinion, believing in yourself is important, but it should be supported by effort and experience, not just positive thinking.
