The rise and fall of Hollywood: How it all fell apart

Video Overview & Insights

For nearly a century, Hollywood was the global capital of entertainment — the place where dreams were made, and where 90% of the world’s box office revenue once flowed. But today, that empire is crumbling. The movie industry has lost a third of its workforce, and soundstages across Los Angeles sit empty. What happened?

Just another point, just like the ice industry and workers that delivered it to our homes, one invention wiped it out, now the fraction of market demand get to be no more than delivering to stores and filling a bin for a few that need it for a party. Corporate will follow the money or lack of it. AI is even destroying YouTube, your video are the most enjoyable and accurate content presently out there.

Excellent as usual. AI and production will slaughter a good part of the work load,and make content more of a commodity..politics will cause people to skip over movies that even have a hint of actors/actresses with differing political views, we avoid any liberal bent films even if the actor does not have input on the content of his film, we will never go to any production with liberal based story line or people.

Seems to cut costs of hiring good actors and actresses , Hollywood now relies on computer generated absurd fantasy stories that make me cringe . No wonder America is lost in a narcissistic fantasy world where a reality TV depraved hate filled lawless scoundrel is regarded as the second coming by delusional right wing pretend Christians who believe in magic and not science. Another interesting fact based video. Thanks Michael .

In this video, we trace the entire rise and fall of Hollywood — from the Edison patent wars that started it all, to the golden age of cinema, to the streaming revolution that’s now destroying it. You’ll learn how technology, politics, and changing audience tastes all collided to end a hundred-year reign of power.

This isn’t just a story about film — it’s about how entire industries can collapse when they stop listening to the audience.

Crappy movies and no originality are definitely two of the major reasons Hollywood is crashing. Everything is either a sequel or a remake. Combine this with movies trying to force “THE MESSAGE” onto us and people have had enough.

Hollywood attacked me. They were certain there would be no consequences. They never saw the millions of elephants in the room. Jesus said," Whatever you do to the least of these My brethren, you do to Me also." God said," Don't touch My anointed, and do My prophets no harm." The thought never crossed their minds dogging me could have made the Levy Shoemaker Comet hit earth instead of breaking into twelve pieces that hit Jupiter while headed here. And other variations of that. Such as MRSA Superbug variations (an antibiotic result), AI unemployment changes, endometriosis pandemic, no cure for microplastics in brains, Yellowstone National Parks imminent year of national midnight, ELP from China...........God has options.
A space butterfly could flap its wings on one of Neptunes moon's, and few would know how it could make Putin poop on us.

I just spent 19 minutes watching a guy in a cowboy hat walking through a park in Texas talking to a camera, and it was better than most "movies" these days. So thank you for the relevant and well presented video. Hollywood is indeed dying and the moviegoing experience is all but dead. Why, mostly what you said, greedy out of touch studios, overblown preachy wokeness, phone zombies and social media, covid social distancing and social retardation, etc. Very few good movies made in the past decade and going to a theater is annoying and expensive. Meanwhile we can sit at home and watch whatever we want on a big crisp screen with great audio and cheap snacks with quiet and privacy, instead of sitting with a bunch of self-entitled kids playing with their phones and eating $20 popcorn. Oh yeah, an Ai is a huge threat to movies, music, photography, basically any medium which can be faked convincingly is under threat and it is up to the individual to push back and ask for genuine human artistic material.

I actually think CGI ruined movies. Visual spectacle became more important than storyline. Since value comes from scarcity, having heavy CGI everywhere all the time made it worthless.

I don’t mind a message in a film. That’s been a thing for over 50 years. My issue is there just hasn’t been a lot of quality. The last few moves I have gone to have been, so so. In fact I can’t even remember the name of the last one I saw and that was just a few weeks ago.

If the production is so forgettable, why would I spend the money.

@bradlevantis913

It’s not about being woke. It’s being corporate.

"milquetoast slop designed to not offend anybody." Dude, I don't know what you're watching but the reality is, Hollywood has doubled down on content that offends. I've been to thousands of church services in my life, but if I really want to be preached at, I've GOT to go to the movies! Every single film that comes out has to have a Woke / DEI theme and the audience does NOT want to see it.

@stephenash777

Hollywood movies are LESS "preachy" today than in the past.

Whats happening now is that there is a huge conservative media machine that tell people about it. And much of it is imagined.

You didn't notice it before, thats all.

Dont fall for righty propaganda,.please.

In my opinion, Hollywood lost the ability to tell a good story. One example: in the late 50s a swiss-german movie got made based up on a story by Friedrich Dürrenmatt. The film makers then were wise enough to alter the story a bit and change the ending to a happy one. In 2001 Hollywood remade the film under the direction of Sean Penn with Jack Nicholson in it. Penn went with Dürrenmatt and gave the movie a shitty ending. But honestly, who wants to see that after they invested two hours of their live time to watch a movie? Old Hollywood would have known and would have followed the script of the 1958 movie, and not the book.

@johnmosesbrowning1855

Politics didn’t kill Hollywood (if Hollywood started pandering to those conservative viewers you speak of then you would have 61% of liberals would start mistrusting Hollywood), producing crappy content did.

When I was a kid (I was born in 1987), I would go to the movies with my parents and we would see movies that were funny, gripping and/or interesting like Batman Forever, Lion King, Tommy Boy and The Waterboy and many of my favorite movies I do watch are from the 1970s to 2000s. Now all Hollywood makes is comic book content that’s riddled with CGI garbage that makes movies imho look faker than hell. That’s why I stopped watching.

I think the last movie I saw in theaters was Vice (shocker a movie made by Adam McKay was very good) and that was what? 2018? I don’t feel compelled to go back.

I’m sorry, but we can only make so many Star Wars prequels before it just gets tiring.

I also want to say I discovered your channel today and I LOVE your content. You do great work, Michael. Keep it up!!!

What? Hollywood can't make movies that piss people of? Or challenge norms do you live in a alternate reality? That's the majority of the movie out put. You are confusing the lack of creativity with not being offensive. In fact movies have gone telling people how terrible and bad they are time and time again.

@ZeelofTheMarty

I used to take my mom once or twice a month to see a movie. It was great. We had a good time. Now they don’t make anything that is worth watching the last movie I saw was top gun Maverick that was a good movie! No desire to go see the left leaning movies since then keep up the good work Hollywood. You’ll be dead soon.

@Faj1957

I can't think of any industry that is more susceptible to oblivion via AI than the movie industry. I keep waiting for the day when the first totally AI movie comes out and nobody knows until all find out about it. No writers, no actore, no directors, no studios. Just someone with a high powered laptop that can make a decent a decent movie for a tiny fraction of what most movies now cost.

In the 1990s, I went to a movie a week. There were lots of small theatres and I was willing to travel to get to them. There always seemed to be something worth seeing (my favorites were art house films). Now, it's sequels (IV, V, VI - ridiculous!) where the original wasn't very good, superhero slop and game-related garbage. What ever happened to good acting and great stories?

@ferociousgumby

There are two spectacular failures I'd love to see you cover: Quibi and Segway! Both were hyped to a ridiculous degree and were "the future", until they weren't. They turned out to be NOT what the public wanted.

Cali is red tape cocky. IE corrupt like non other. Greasing palms more than than a diddy party til actual producers said ENOUGH. Now they're begging for the revenue to return. Not so much the movie makers, just the revenue. They caRe abt the money, not the art. Not bad, but not good.

"Hollywood is too woke" is just the angle that right wing media pushes to make you angry.

Hollywood saw sales declining, and ROI per movie went way down. Thus to get ROI up, they made "safer" movies (G and PG rated films instead of fun R flicks).

Tucker Carlson and his ilk told you it is the liberal agenda so he could get his own views up.

Hollywood just made a bad business decision, that's all.
