The Rise and Fall of Gus | Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul

Video Overview & Insights

His character needs to be studied.

I like to think that the last thing to go through Gus’s mind (aside from the obvious) would be something along the lines of “Well played, Walter.”

Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Hector was like I’m tired of this dude knocking my people off he up too many points. Had to kill himself to kill Gus who still went down last between the two so really he still won.

looking back, the story of walt making the better product thus it pays to work with hin regardless of all the hassle, doesnt make too much sense, since these guys control their markets by force anyway . But it really took me at least 1500 hours of watching the shows and content about it to let this fact annoy me. which reminds what good of a show that is

I do like to think the only reason Gus actually got the drop on Lalo was because of how much Lalo was burned into his mind as a threat. By which I mean, Gus could’ve run anywhere in the lab, but he knew where Lalo was. He was too terrified of him at that moment to not know where he was.

I love the progression. Good actors in the those story lines. Then Walt enters the scene. So fantastic. Cranston is a magician.

48:05 I need to know what made Gustavo such an important figure in Chile before any of this happened. It’s no small thing that that Eladio showed this level of respect and kept him alive despite what the Salamanca’s must have been saying. It was clear from the beginning that Hector hated him, but Eladio had enough foresight to see that Gus was the real deal and would go on to make him a ton of cash. I really want to know what he achieved in Chile before all of this.

The existence of Lalo made the Salamancas terrifying on a whole different level, between him and the twins you can really see how he became a boss.

@jonathanzimmerman634
@

Lalo was only enemy besides Walt who was really on Gus’s level intellectually. Overcoming him and Eladio should have made him king, but he never could have predicted Walt.

In my younger days, (30 years ago) I was part of a 1%er biker club. In all the dealings I heard of. There was never talk of harming a rivals family, especially children. These Spanish cartels are the epitmy of evil. Usually, their first victims are the targtes family.
What a cowardly, disghusting, inexcusable action.

I love that Gus is genuinely scared of Lalo. It just shows how much of a threat he was to Gus's operation.

It's fun how everyone in the BB/BCS universe has that Benjamin Button's disease. I blame it on the chicken. The real secret ingredient in Los Pollos chicken is an anti aging agent.
