The Real Reason Disney Is So Expensive

Video Overview & Insights

Disney originally started as an affordable experience for families. But prices have increased so much that middle-class families are feeling priced out while Disney shifts its focus to affluent travelers.

In addition to offering more experiences at their parks, which increases the cost of park entry, Disney has changed the way it charges for park tickets, adopting demand-based pricing that optimizes for profits at the expense of parkgoers. This aggressive monetization may be more important than ever, as the parks have become Disney’s most profitable division, while the entertainment division has faltered over the last decade.

Editor's note: A previous version of this video showed that the 2026 price of the Mickey Pretzel was $6.75. The video was updated to reflect the true price of $8.25.

Its Disney Adults, they’re the reason why Disney up charges so much. They know that these people will pay any amount of money so why would Disney lower their prices for family’s when Disney Adults will finance their company 🎉 8:57

“Rising labor costs” Oh please, if you were to increase the wages to your employees I HIGHLY DOUBT it’ll make a dent especially for a company as big as Disney.

15:30 - Managing Disney's Prices

As long as people let themselves be ripped off, greedy owners will keep testing the limits of our wallets. I understand that children need things to do, but there are plenty of alternatives. We went once so that our son could try out all the attractions (he wasn’t even as thrilled as I’d expected), and now we spend our free time elsewhere.

I’ve noticed that ALL businesses are trying to appeal to the top 10% or less. And not just in Amusement Parks or sporting events, but with basic necessities like food and housing. They want to drive the masses into poverty and lessen the human population

We need to shame these people for going to an overpriced theme park for children as adults without children. Going once, is fine, but these people do it repeatedly like suckers.

i went to shanghai disneyland, on an ordinary tuesday, if it was THAT crowded there you had to wait 4 hours for the tron ride, then i wonder what happens on weekends or national holidays. It’s not enjoyable when so many people are there. Higher prices could also mean less people go and it’s more enjoyable, but at the same time they earn from food and souvenirs so less tourists mean less income, it has to be balanced, but as for me it was simply not enjoyable, on 20+ rides i got to experience 4.

Walt Disney would do the proverbial 'turn over in his grave' if he knew how his dream parks were being managed nowadays. The clowns that are in charge today have a completely different way of handling the finances than Walt did after Disneyland was opened in 1955. One thing is for sure: "Make sure everything is at 'full retail price or higher' and we'll route out the undesirable 'regular' people; that way the wealthy won't be rubbing elbows with the less fortunate . . . that's how we here at Disney like it. We also love money if you didn't know.

People can complain all they want about how expensive it has become BUT they will STILL pay those prices.

If people stopped going, Disney would need to lower prices. Though I've loved Disneyland from the day it opened, there was a financial point, it was no longer worth it. Shortly after Walt Disney died, so did his dream. To have a park where the whole family could have fun together. You can't have fun when you're worried about how you're going to pay the bills.

@breaknchain8057

The parks are very expensive for sure. They aren’t really financially viable for constant visits. Just plan ahead a couple years, save up and go take that special vacation. But to make it a yearly thing or more frequent is pretty nuts.

@ismaeljrp1
@

Don't forget they spend too much making stupid movies

@BryAn-zy8xs
@

If you notice too they are still trying to keep the original idea in mind: keeping if affordable for children. Child tickets are still on the cheap end because that’s what Disney was built for if you’re a “Disney adult” going multiple times a year they of course want to milk you for as much as possible because you are the bonus on top of the original point. I do wish if you were booking with a child they could maybe provide a discount on the adult ticket but I’m sure that would be hard to prove/manage

@Ghost_x007

So they lost all their money on woke slop and DEI hires in the modern day and then expect everyone who visits to pay the inflated prices for that, lol no thx.

Have not been to any Disneyland for 13 years. They are getting too greedy with the pricing. It’s not worth it. Going to the national parks and enjoying nature is so much better. And it costs less.

@NurseMJ986
@

Rides and shows are far more advanced than they use to be, the cost has to be offset somehow. Im not a Disney fan but if you account for considerably higher labor costs, technology upgrades and keeping up with customer expectations, yes the cost will be high.
