The REAL Cause of High Blood Pressure (and How to Fix It)
Video Overview & Insights
For many people, salt is NOT the problem that is causing their blood pressure, but often it gets all the attention. In this video, let’s go over the often under-appreciated causes of high blood pressure and how to fix them
40 years on bp meds…40 YEARS!! Just got off by not eating between meals or nighttime eating. Aged garlic, and magnesium glycinate helped. I was on max dose Amlodipine and Omasartan.
Dr Kim is a physician, board-certified in Internal and Obesity Medicine, with a passion for preventive health, weight loss, metabolic health, and longevity.
Chapters:
Age 73 and had a stint placed in a carotid artery last year. By BP was high and not on meds. I hate meds. So I was put on 2 BP meds and an aspirin long term. My weight was 185 and I’m a smaller person and I had a protruding stomach. So I decided to start fasting 43 hours once a week. I did it somewhat accidentally the first week and noticed I could do this. In 15 weeks, I’ve lost 12.5 lbs so far. I was experiencing severe fatigue and occasional dizziness, so I suspected it was the BP meds. I stopped taking them for 3 days as a test, and I went back to feeling normal, then started up the meds again. When I told my Dr, he told me to continue taking meds and stop fasting. I refused to stop fasting because I believe my overweight is what was causing my high BP. He did tell me to stop taking one of the BP meds though and to take my BP readings once a day, and multiple times while fasting, which I send him once a week. My thought is a dr should encourage a person to lose weight, and fasting longer term seems to be the only thing that works for me.

I wonder why doesn't all physicians talk about this? Do they not know? I just came from the doctor and he didn't say anything about none of this, only prescriptions.

Recently, my BP was about 127/71, it’s been around that for the past year. This is due to increased potassium a little, along with cutting out carbs and sugars, plus beetroot and vitamin D. This is the lowest blood pressure I’ve had in my entire life!

I know many people who have health anxiety, go from doctor to doctor, and do nothing by themself to stay/be healthy.
No exercise, no healthy food.

I already know this is not the cause of the problem but doctors on fat salaries put me on medication for years. They want me to die but God allows me to live.

@GerImLevShavurI'm on enalapril and it gave joint pains and now limping
@BoituS93Smart doctor and slim person
@manne.rajender2Thank you for making this video, I’ve made some changes to my diet based off this and my blood pressure dropped enough where I could stop the blood pressure medicine
@latenight11I TRUST THIS DOCTOR 👏
@worldpeace-y4hI just discovered your channel Dr. Kim. I wonder - how much do you know of renal artery stenosis? I have that in my left kidney.
@bigboy400676 lady here, Covid shot screwed my heart up, a steroid shot again increased my heart rate. I hate sugar and eat a balance died always. 5 mg nebivolol daily and trying to wean off.
@GrizzBeaverThe mechanism by which sodium chloride (table salt) raises blood pressure in some individuals goes beyond the explanation given here (blood plasma volume expansion). For example the chloride ions play a role in vascular constriction. It is interesting to note that per a given amount of sodium, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) raises blood pressure far less than sodium chloride, and in some individuals may actually lower blood pressure slightly.
@mikethompson3353What kind of magnesium are we talking about here?
@conservativetrades6881Bigger part. Amlodaphine Blocks magnesium!!!
@phylenejanousek2740It is nice that Dr. Leonid addresses the issues of metabolic syndrome which are mainly caused by consuming processed foods and processed sugar. I believe about 1/3 of US population are qualified for metabolic syndrome. Before 1984, Coca Cola and Pepsi had sugar cane in their soft drink. Now even ketchup, salad dressing, and many solid foods have corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup!
@thanhly8005so confused had bp taken in chemist my monitor at home said its low .
@lisacomber7771My dr told me to quit eating salt, I told him I don’t eat salt, he called me a liar. I said doc, my Bp ad always low until menopause. My parents would salt sat if they could get away with it, I don’t eat salt, it’s menopause. Then he told me to stop lying, be realistic. Then my blood showed my sodium was to low and he wanted to choke telling me to eat more salt. I said, which is it doc, I’m a liar about eating salt, but Blood shows you I’m not a salt eater, so which is it doc. He said, eat salt. Veteran Affairs DRs don’t know much about women
@sandylivinggratefulness9754I've just been diagnosed with high blood pressure and just like you said they wanted to put those pills in me. I did begin but stopped before the week ended. Thank you Dr. for this information.
@paularanda3101"It's the Salt!" Not the 10 pounds of cheese, crackers, red meat, donuts, or Dr. Pepper per day.
@robtierney5653People with gout as I’ve found as if I ate meat post menopause, I developed gout, which put me in a wheelchair. No Good! I switched to a Vegan diet for 10 years, and no arthritis from gout. I could not walk, meat was constipation central for me.
I learned to cook deliciously, so eating is a pleasure. I have now added fish and eggs and gout has not returned. I am dairy into,errant so cannot drink milk, but plant-based milks are good, I don’t do cereal so rarely use the plant-based milks.
Eating lots of grapefruit and its juice as well as cooked fresh beets, help to keep BP down. We use Morton’s LITE Salt, and that is quite good. I use garlic pwd and the LITE salt as it is Potassium/Chloride, so it tastes much like salt. I also use some Himalayan Pink salt, not often.
I take BP every AM after breakfast and the average is 117/53/59, last number is pulse beats per minute. I had to take some Cold Medicine abd really shot my BO up but th3 Coricidin D HBP did not raise it at all.
Fuck this so called experts, all of them have different opinions, I don't know whom to believe so amma just eat according to how i feel about foods that go inside my body.
@fantastico5526Reducing salt intake, help reduce HBP drastically.
@SeniorsHealthAuthoritySingle moms ypung grass hopper
@bobbyboucher-k9t😏🙄 🤦🏿♀️ How does this make sense? "I don't want to take a prescription pill every day for the rest of my life."
Then they Proceed to take garlic pills, magnesium glycinate, beetroot powder, fish oil, CoQ10, and potassium every day for the rest of their life. And the outcomes of that are iffy
Some people act like taking blood pressure medicine is a failure. I don't see it that way. For a lot of us, it's just a tool that helps manage a condition we were born predisposed to. You take your pill and go on with your life.
@nancydrew5High blood pressure is not one-size-fits-all. Stress reduction, exercise, weight loss, and supplements may help some people, but hypertension has many causes, including genetics. I was diagnosed with pre-hypertension while exercising regularly and both of my parents had hypertension. What works for one person may not work for another. People should work with their own physician and not assume that a YouTube video, supplement, or another person's experience applies to their situation.
@nancydrew5Refined sugars are just as bad for blood pressure; I limit any and all sweets to moderate fruit consumption.
@ChachaChapatiIs severe vertigo a symptom of high blood pressure. I recently woke up with this and my blood pressure was through the roof.
@thinker-qWhy do you suggest spinach right after talking about getting uric acid down? Spinach is high in purines which leads to elevation in uric acid.
@vendomnuObviously over weight. Can't be over looked. Fast for 23 hours a day and eat at lunch time within a 1 hour window. 2far4u2
@charlesdarwin6689Uric acid will give foot problems
@TerrytugsDoctors give wrong advice. This guy is right.
@TerrytugsThank you !
@barth510I stopped eating sugar/refined carbs. Weight dropped along with BP. 52yo and a year ago my BP averaged 180/95. Now it averages 117/70 and I'm 60lbs lighter.
@GenxbeachbumI have a lot of salt in my diet (Althea I have short bowel syndrome) my blood pressure has always been low between 120-80s to as low as 96-70 and vitals are near perfect at 44
@ztaylor82Thanks a million! 👍🍷
@ramiroalvarez539740 years on blood pressure medication… FORTY years. I finally got off them by cutting out snacking between meals and late-night eating. Aged garlic and magnesium glycinate also seemed to help a lot. I had been on the maximum doses of Amlodipine and Olmesartan.
