I think the scenery here is a lot more complicated than you make it seem. People as emotionally volatile and high-strung as Tom Cruise or just any person as that fits similar metrics to him has bouts of a hysteria and if you happen to have that hysteria while sat in a chair with all eyes glued on you It's kind of hard to make it stop.

Based on the oxygen tank story, it reminded me a lot of Handsome Jack from the Borderlands games, particularly a part where Handsome jack laughs while telling a story about scooping someone's eyes out with a spoon while the man's family watched.
