This highlights the difference between:

- Intensive reading: when you read to learn new words and analyze the language.

I started learning English with Dracula. First of all, I'd read it in my native Russian language. Then, I don't know why, I decided to read it in English. And I did - it's quite an easy book for beginners. After that first step I couldn't stop and went through Harry Potter, Twilight, Interview with the Vampire, Once upon a time in America, Think and grow rich, and a whole bunch of other books and articles... Now I'm enjoying The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night.

— @azatiskhakov9809

- Extensive reading: where you don't stop and you read for pleasure.

More on my reading for fluency method soon but first...

Wow, actually was great tip for reading and learning, I appropriate it👍

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT BOOK FOR YOU:

1. The genre: the category. Choose books that interest you.

Thank you sm🍓⭐

— @Ariidj-16

2. The level of the book: if it's too difficult to understand, you won't enjoy it and it won't help you. Choose graded readers. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o7DTuOYn0o

3. Books you enjoy: if you don't enjoy the book, put it down.

I'm coming in 2026

FINDING BOOKS (GREAT TIP!)

Go to Amazon and "look inside" a book that you may enjoy. Start reading it and get it if you think it's appropriate.

Alchemist, Rommel : the desert fox, Harry Poter series

— @zain8z20

Find books with audiobooks too.

INTENSIVE vs EXTENSIVE READING:

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

— @АзимаАноятшоева

I recommend that you do both. Here is how:

1. Read extensively but highlight words (sentences that you don't understand)

1984

— @raihanputra6461

2. Do this for each chapter or for a certain number of pages

3. Go back and look up anything you don't understand

Just love that advise .... Love from BD 🇧🇩

— @MasuraBegum-z4l

BONUS TIP:

Take the sentences that you have highlighted and use Anki - https://apps.ankiweb.net/ - to create flashcards.

I'm reading The secret..

— @narandasjetha2652

This is a way to internalize the new language and grammar.

I read the newspaper (Digital version), it's a great way of improving english speaking and vocabulary, I do intensive reading by instantly looking up the words meaning as it is easier now by just tapping on the word on ipad.

Not ashamed to admit. :) Thank You for the tips on copying the whole sentences and revising them daily. I do believe it will help me immensely.

The thing about highlighting words and looking then up later, is that you might need the definition then and there.

So today i bought a book for a sole purpose of maintaining my english, and i've said to myself while in the bookstore, look a crimi drama, let's grab that sherlok holmes novel and go home. And then, i found out that sherlok holms is being written in a very old, victorian, 1800 english😅 and i was hoping for a contemporary english read. I can understand it, but the experience is not enjoyable because of the old, archaic words. Sometimes, i'm such an ignorant mess
