Words are words - how we communicate them, matters.

Instead of adopting a hitting philosophy like its gospel or assuming that an approach is wrong, we simply need to continue asking questions.
Man I'm french and I'm trying to get into basseball maybe a bit too late (I'm gonna be 18) and this video really helped me a lot to visualize the movement and I begin to understand it. Just need to practice now but I would love to be a pro or at least championships as an amateur in part because of this type of video they are so great and interesting or inspiring. Thank you for this video.
Never afraid of being wrong or sounding stupid.
The goal here is to encourage critical thinking.
I am 11 and trying to work onn my swing and this is one of the best videos
"When everyone is thinking alike, no one is thinking at all.”
What’s my point?
Great video, do what works for you, if keeping your hands inside works do it. if extending your arms works do it.
Just because everyone is hitting a certain way, doesn’t mean you should too. It’s important to keep an open mind, but not so open your brain falls out. In other words - do your own research and question everything.

OUTLINE:
Different strokes for different folks. Pitch recognition and hand eye coordination are also things that are incredibly difficult to teach. Some people are naturally better at it than others.

Really enjoy the video. Also social network soundtrack is great.
We need to have players understand that there going agaiant intelligent pitching. Im seeing this in football as well. Theres alot of "what we want to do" and less on how to interact with a live thinking opponent.
Its solitaire vs game theory. U simply cant turn every at bat into solitaire it wont work agaiant quality pitching that understands the meta

2:45 - Hitting concepts
This came on my feed and I clicked on it due to Jr being on the thumbnail. You gave me a lot to think about here, I coach youth baseball but my son also has a hitting coach he sees as he needs to learn how to be coached by someone other than dad.
He's being taught to lift the ball, I think that this works for him because of the power that he generates in his swing. For me since I was not nearly as strong as he was, I relied on contact and my speed on the basepaths, so lift wasn't going to help as I couldn't even come close to yarding a ball.
My point is that I agree with you that a one size fits all approach doesn't apply here, its dependent on the person, size strength and their overall makeup to figure out what's going to make them most successful with the tools they have at their disposal.
3:45 - The evolution of hitting
4:55 - Issues with the culture of launch angle
A video to be proud of. You did a great job putting this together. And a sprinkle of good every day life advice too, especially for the younger people. Really enjoyed watching this.

The technique that is being taught today is the complete contradiction of what was taught 10 years ago. The success of Aaron Judge is not indicative of what Little League baseball players should be emulating.

The hips fire first, and elbow fires to the hip, Therefore, we cast underneath the ball. This is why we have youth focusing on the top half of the ball. It also lens the opportunity to get the ball on the ground. Therefore, it has to be fielded where a pop-up just has to be caught. A rod battery even Griffey demonstrated this right in front of you staying to the top half of the ball or direct to the ball.

I tried bunch of different things in hitting, but I always recorded my swing after every approach. Both my coach and I know what good swing looks like, and I try to keep whatever mindset I have when I have good swing. I think that's one universal advice that will work no matter what.

I'm glad that you featured Don Mattingly in this video. He, in my opinion, had the perfect swing. He wasn't a big guy but he was more of a contact hitter that could hit high, low, and belt high pitches to all fields with power. Unfortunately, when he injured his back, his career took a downturn.
@eadgbefreakThis is one of the best video''s in years. Thank you!!!
@bvh4517There’s always been a “hole” in the top of the swing. High fastballs have always been tough to hit, even more so now when nearly every mlb pitcher is touching the upper nineties with their fastball. Getting the barrel in the zone early doesn’t prevent anyone from hitting a high pitch or a low and away pitch.
Also Griffey got the barrel in the zone behind and early, as did many of the best hitters of the past. Swings were longer because players could get away with that against pitchers who weren’t throwing as hard.
You can’t force launch angle, the goal should be matching the general plane of the pitch and getting the barrel on the ball. If you hit it hard enough and are slightly under it, a home run with “launch angle” will be the result.
Don’t get confused about the names different coaches use the same concept because its so it could get confusing if you don’t clarify that “Get on top of ball”, “Get in the zone early”, “Get on top of the ball” is just explaining to be ready to hit it. (Start your swing earlier) and not be late on the pitch coming; If you start your swing early enough you could hit anything! Its not about how pretty your stance looks nor how you look when you holding the bat its about beating the pitch before it beats you, Being able to gain momentum enough to start your swing. See the ball coming. Then hit it all in a matter of seconds. (You could hit bullet if the bullet wasnt going that fast enough for you to be able to see it comming) Thats the art to it i think.
@lovettmorefishingQuality video thank you
@MR-uk7iy3:05 this was like gospel to my ears.. this is what I know. so many ppl on YouTube talking about dipping your shoulder and swinging up like you cant be serious right now no way u played high level
@curtis4948Great video. And great music.
@b-gill9224Great video, well thought out
@ocrfarm7005Just caught this video and a few others on this channel. They are very well made and I appreciate the dedication and thorough consideration for the art & science of hitting. I wholly concur and teach my players to become the most versatile hitter they can within a certain framework of their experience, body type and goals as a player and try not to get pigeon-holed into the latest trends or pressured by coaches and parents to follow some one-dimensional approach to the game. I could go on but the point is developing an approach that works for each player while observing what has worked in the past and what you need to compete at a high level will serve you best if you can digest the most important aspects of physics, symmetry and mechanics. You have earned my sub and i look forward to discovering more content and utulizing resources like this to help shape the game we all love and admire. Blessings
@owlbyrd714“If your 10 years old and your coach tells you to get on top of the ball, tell him no.”
The rest of the video saying be on top of the ball
Here's the 3 best pieces of advice I ever heard.
1. If you're afraid of getting hit by a pitch you're done, you won't be successful.
2. You have to be 100% physically relaxed and loose, from head to toes and from the start of the forward to swing to just before contact. Nice loose grip all the way. And start using Pelican Pine tar stick, it smells great, better than Tiger Stick and works better in cooler weather.
3. Once you get in the box in a game you can't be thinking about your mechanics. Your total focus should be on watching the ball, nothing else. Thinking about mechanics is for BP or hitting off a tee.
Part of the excitement of playing hardball is facing a pitcher who's throwing gas and then ripping a double down the line. The threat of getting drilled in the ribs adds to the excitement of playing, but yet it doesn't bother you or cause you to lose focus of what you need to do to hit the ball with authority.
I don't care what anyone says, there's no better game.
I feel like this isn't only an approach to hitting the baseball but the mindset you need to have in life. Excellent commentary. Well done.
@the_stixXxIn my opinion, the hitting instruction that is the most popular today (ferris wheel) is so far off it can't be overstated. You're correct it only works on balls down. Whereas if your baseline move were more level designed to attack balls up, you only need to let angle out of your trail elbow to adjust to balls down. No tilt needed
@joecolucci2219it's true, it is very difficult to catch up to a letters high fastball with the uppercut. however, it really helps to prevent hitting the ball into the ground.
@jowill928Correct me if I'm wrong.
Isn't launch angle of the ball entirely dependent on where the bat connects to the ball on impact. How you get there will determine power, consistency, ect.
You want Grounders, linedrives' same swing just hit the ball higher.
We have studied hitting for 6 years, but we only recently discovered it’s like pulling down on a rope and the hips straighten out the bat.
Unfortunately, the pitch up is a hole in this approach of hitting, but coaches are only interested in players that lift the ball, so now you hunt the pitch that is down.
Great video. Everyone is different therefore no hitting instructor can truly be "the guy." Not saying they cannot help with thought processes and improving some hitters, but you cannot cookie cut hitters. Dead on in regard to Teacherman. High fastballs will get those guys out. And weak hitters are just hitting fly ball outs if focusing on launch angle.
@halfgermanantonyFantastic video.
@joshrobinson5616griffey had one of the most buttery stylistic swings the mlb has ever seen.
@wolf-yw9wkThis video does a good job encapsulating that even professionals have a very hard time teaching others to swing and communicating their message. Sometimes they talk about feeling in their body and an approach that makes sense to them, but ultimately, they're talking about their approach, not the core fundamentals to hitting including the load, getting the bat on plane with the ball, and how that energy is transferred from the ground to the bat. There are different types of hitting such as the spectrum of power vs contact, but those core fundamentals haven't changed much, if at all.
@BDeli123The HLP opens up the ability to drive balls where they are pitched. It’s beautifully easy.
@Blingem14Lol Griffey may say that’s how it felt but that wasn’t how he swung. He was my favorite player. I use to mimic his swing
@Blingem14Jump shots in basketball is the same Real vs Feel
@realjcooptingsCan you give me a link to the ken griffey jr video pls
@a.killa4784Lower Body is most important aspect of athletics, no matter which sport you're playing. Upper body goes where the lower body allows it to.Want to hit better? Work your twitch speed on legs/feet + strengthen core. And, Most Importantly, Develop your hip's flexor muscles. They need strength & twitch speed. Ppl say turn on the ball, but really think of it as "twist" on it. Bc that's the movement you must develop. Increase strength and quickness on your "twists." That will also shorten your swing. Imo, The launch angle is ridiculous, plus it's an EASY fix. Just Drop your hands/elbow towards belly button-belt. Because the arms are followers to the legs, that's all u have to do to change the trajectory of ur swing. Watch Griffey next time. His swing is perfection due to his "twist." His stance has his back shoulder "untwisted" to create maximum torque in his "Twist." He turns on it Lightning Quick, he GRACEFULLY Explodes through his Turn/Twist. His whole stance is about setting up his legs.
@kyledclayburn1102Genuinely one the best YouTube videos I've ever seen 👏
@zicomitchellI have a 12 yr all star that plays on a travel team this what i tell " chin down swing up" it works
@markdavidhizar2655Pretty good approach to this topic- well rounded. There are generally two views: the looking at and the looking along. Also known as feel vs. real. I don’t care for the term feel vs real as it devalues the looking along perspective. The so-called “real” or look at point of view is meaningless without the feel or looking along point of view.
@keithdiaz8166Teaching hitting man can't high up in the zone ....that means he teaching kids to have hole in there swings
@jumpman23823God And Jesus Will Always Love You.
@anthonylington5I just want my 10yr olds to hit the ball! 😂 not many can pick which half of the ball they are going to hit. Consistent contact is more important to me. Make the defense do their job first.
@bamabladezthe jazz in the background is pissing me off
@DuganPogueThe kid is the best to ever play the game
@anakinsolo4529You know hitting is an art when we view Ken Griffey jr and Ichiro Suzuki as the best hitters of all time yet they both were viewed as two completely different types of hitters.
@やまさきかずや-b6xDamn… this is a great video on hitting. Very transparent but honestly you labeled the big elephants in the room and you nailed on the youth aspect and the issues these kids are learning. Great video 👏
@mechazmosleyBall at the letters is a ball.
