When Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG for a world transfer record, of €222m it would change the footballing transfer market forever. Whilst PSG now had Neymar, Barcelona were the main beneficiaries with a huge amount of cash now burning a hole in their bank account.
Selling Coutinho enabled Liverpool to purchase Van Dijk and Alisson, securing UCL, PL and more trophies down the road.
And they set out to spend it all. This is the story of the four players Barcelona spent the Neymar money on.
Written by Seb Stafford-Bloor. Illustrated by Marco Bevilacqua.
Watching this after dembele is having a stormer of a season is great

The really impressive part of this, is in a video specifically made to criticise Barca's reckless spending after Neymars sale for various reasons when realistically they would have been better off just not spending on a massive replacement, Everton still come out looking like the worse negotiators for paying 30 million for a man who cost 12m 6 months ago and played 400 minutes.

Imagine if they’d just kept faith with the likes of Dani Olmo and others coming through… or actually recruited players who fit the system…

If Neymar hadnt been that much of a disappointment and atleast equalled his price tag with his performances, I think the transfer market wouldve been a lot more stable and wouldnt be filled with random 100m signings.

Led to Harry Maguire being the most expensive defender in the world. 😂

Very weird click-baitey title. Obviously people would be thinking you meant Dembélé, Coutinho, and Griezmann, wondering who the fourth might have been. Just going over their 2018 transfers is underwhelming and somewhat scummy

It’s funny how we cry about Neymar, because as much as his talented, his departure was not the cause of Barca downfall, we still had Neymar, and yet we still lost to Athletico and Juventus in 2016-2017
@joybalonda7663Is Griezmann not on this list? Another disaster, bought for huge money who —like Coutinho—played in Messi’s position.
@hi0u91e9Interesting that Paulinho was part of the Neymar 4 and the Gareth Bale 7
@dylbahYerry Mina was a great signing. They were able to almost triple their money in just 6 months.
@marcos4239Coutinho went to barcalona just to score the 7th and 8th against them.
@ZikoHendrixDo the Bale 7 next...
@tomlindsay101Would Neymar play at an absurdly high physical, technical and mental level at Bayern?
@japaimportsPYPaulinho was good for Barca
@Diazdaniel14Why did he leave in the first place? People argue that he did it cause he wanted to escape Messi's shadow but this is just too simplistic and probably not far from false. Was it due to that ugly fight during training?
@joaov.m.oliveira9903Why is Dyche catching strays on them front page newspapers? 💀
@zamokuhlemolefe8443The two PSG brand Neymar and Messi
@kbj9656Dont forget Yuri Mina, was the main reason lost the only gamthat prevvented them t
@J-oker251Dont forget Yuri Mina, was the main reason lost the only game that prevvented Barca from having an invincible season
@J-oker251Coutinho still went on to win a treble, just not with Barcelona lol.
@KakarotOwnsI mean Dembele doing good now
@ZxlxyaAs a Barca fan, this video triggered my PBSD- Post Bartomeu Stress Disorder.
@HamzaTalksFootballNeymar's betrayal still angers me but i like him at the same time
@jonathanprime1507Its a decent video but 2 points of criticism:
1/ You've insinuated that Paulinho was basically a flop - this couldn't he further from the truth. Paulinho was good-to-great at Barca. Clicked well with Messi and had several big performances, the 3-0 at the Bernabeu being the top. Very successful signing.
2/ Dembele is not a polarising figure anymore, he's roundly loved and lauded as one of the best in the world (in fact, Barca people can be a bit exaggerated in how good he is, some will say he's more talented than Mbappe etc).
wasnt Malcolm was also part of this cash splash?
@lhkidoihu659Barcelona is most funniest club, buying coutinho for 135 million euros and selling him to bayern only to score 2 goals against them in legendary 8-2 match😂
@adhnaanahmed5029Liverpool did Barca so bad, both on and off the field lmao.
@shuvbhowmickbestinPlayer's worth before Neymar: €10 million
Player's worth after Neymar: €80 million
Griezmann was the nail to the coffin. FCB just becomes a CB after
@Lupcheong89The same happens whenever a big player goes, see Hazard, Bale, Grealish etc. (for prem examples) If you get big money for an irreplaceable attacking threat you either throw it all at big names and overpay, or you invest it across a range of players and hope for some success.
There's a very good chance you won't come out of it better though. If they're a lightning in a bottle player then for any success stories, they tend to come years later,
when are you guys gonna go back to making Short History Of videos?
@darrenchin_140,000,000 for Dembele is insane lol
@Butcho22What about Malcom? Can’t even remember when they signed him but that didn’t work out too well
@MrSuli86The political pressure was what killed the club, I do think Messi and Suarez easily carried Barca to the next two La Liga titles without any of the signings post Neymar.
@eddixon2015Coutinho begging to go back to Liverpool at cut wages later on was fummy asf tbh
@robbieg6036As a Liverpool supporter, the Coutinho saga is still plain hilarious 😂
@andrzejkopalniahow ironic, neymar was the most expensive transfer and somehow Barcelona got more broke 😭
@thearmy9326Barca got pressured for having that much money after ney's sale. They handled the money very poorly.
@raibautistaBarca did this to themself by repeatedly trying to unsettle veratti.. they did the same with cesc. too bad psg waayy stronger financially than arsenal to retaliate 🤣
@fmiftahGreat channel no doubt but when you start creating content on the NEYMAR 4 you know you have run out of content that being said it's also a testament to how well they have covered European Football.
@robertmartins1712How Barcelona spent the Neymar money was equivalent to how Tottenham spent the Bale money!
@abiodun-b9This is the deal that enabled FSG Liverpool to win (one UCL, one ESC, one CWC, one PL, one CC and one FAC only).
