The new Ferrari Luce: My HONEST take...

Video Overview & Insights

This is the Ferrari Luce, Ferrari’s very first all-electric car - and it might be the most controversial car of the decade!

Hahahhahahh a lego Ferrari made in China plastic car.

It’s not the first time Ferrari has looked to use electrical power in its cars. The likes of the SF90 and 296 are some of the most popular Ferraris around. But this is the very first all-electric car to roll off the production line at Maranello - and the reception has been… Interesting!

Now this is what I call a disgrace on four wheels😂

— @Neri-u5t

So what’s all the fuss about? Let’s take a closer look.

In terms of the design, there’s one BIG factor in why people aren’t happy with the looks - and that’s because it wasn’t even designed by Ferrari! It was designed by LoveFrom, a creative collective headed up by ex-Apple designer Sir Jony Ive, and it seems their end product has proven especially divisive. There are ‘floating’ front and rear spoilers, rear-hinged doors for the back seat passengers, and it comes in as Ferrari’s largest car to date - over 5m long! All in all, we worry that it looks more like an indistinguishable Chinese EV, rather than a car worth a £400,000+ price tag!

Absolutely terrible

— @Alan-g5u3f

Thankfully, there’s a lot to like about the interior. Despite being an EV, physical dials and buttons have been retained. There’s a large, movable infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, but otherwise it’s kept relatively minimalist and clean - unlike most modern cars with fussy, complicated interiors. What’s more, it’s also the second Ferrari to come with 4 doors, and the first to come with a bench seat for 5 passengers in the rear!

In terms of performance, the Luce is an absolute powerhouse. It comes with four electric motors, and these combine to propel you to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 193mph, and it produces an eye-watering 1,050hp! However, despite its huge size, it’s not the heaviest EV out there, tipping the scales at 2,260kg. That’s 400kg lighter than a BMW iX M70!

It seems to me that Jony took the liberty to dissect not just Ferrari, but the entire automotive industry. He said: I will create a new precedent. As a designer with a cross-disciplinary mindset, he tried to return the object to a healthy state, cut off everything superfluous and actualize the product itself.

And it is in this, as I think, the scale of a great designer is revealed. He solves the problem not of a single brand, but of an entire industry. And the automotive industry, in my opinion, has long been played with its own clichés: decorative, visual noise, the cult of technology for the sake of technology.

Iva, as I see it, has come up with a very good solution. It's as if he has cured many of the industry's ailments and brought the car back to its crystallized state, where every detail aligns with its function, the brand's character, and the very nature of the object. Instead of adding new things for the sake of new things, he has restored the car's inherent integrity.

Today, I believe that the Ferrari Luce is the best car concept I have ever seen. And the name

— @arenaslab3665

So what do you think - is it worth the huge £474,000 price tag?! And more importantly, do you think Ferrari will actually manage to sell any other?! Let us know in the comments!

An electric Ferrari? Nah! Not for me.

It's worth mentioning that a few years ago even Apple got tired of Jony Ive and allowed him to "chase other opportunities".

Even more expensive than the electric Rolls Royce? Ferrari is out of their mind and deserve the beatings.

Given the rather generic A. N. Other SUV thing design, if this car had a Polestar or BYD badge on it no-one would bat an eyelid. Seriously? Ferrari are asking half a million quid for this generic appliance?

The only problem is that they put a Ferrari BADGE on it, that cheapened the brand. All they had to do was create a SEPARATE DIVISION (Like many car company's do). GM > Saturn etc.
