Listening to this at 57:24. Maybe this whole calories in calories out has to switch to glucose in glucose out. Just an opinion but the example that was used was women in menopause, they stop menstruating, but maybe let’s start there at the blood. Something must shift in a woman’s body when they stop menstruating right? But we also have to look at blood in men too. Follow the blood and we’ll eventually find the shift. What minerals are either being deposited or not being deposited to cause hormonal shifts?

Maybe I need to apologize to you. Maybe I am listening to the wrong source. I commented that your evidence was based on elite athletes. Maybe that’s who you are talking to. I’m the average person and seeking help and don’t see much evidence addressed to this population.

What bothers me is so much evidence is based on elite athletes, not the average person. We need scientific evidence based on the “average person “.

The can’t outrun a bad diet thing is so true. I spent like 4 years trying to lose weight exercising constantly and never losing more than 5-7 pounds. Then I did a month of low carb and lost 20 pounds without exercising at all.

Has anyone experienced not losing weight on a low carb ketogenic diet? I've had this for as long as I can remember. I did Adkins in college for a month with virtually no weight loss. I did an egg fast for a week and only lost 1 lb. Now I'm trying low carb less than 5 grams per day and nothing has really happened. The only way I've been able to lose weight is with more carbs and calories around 1400. I always lose water weight the first couple days, but then nothing. I'm not overweight however I do have an extra 7 lbs of weight gain that I can't get off ever since the lockdown. I don't drink alcohol and I eat real food. I do ballet 3 days a week which is strenuous and definitely muscle building, walk 5 miles on the other days and try to incorporate weights as much as time allows. I've had my a1c, fasting insulin, and fasting glucose tested and I'm insulin sensitive. No issues there. I'm 49 and peri-menopausal, however this phenomenon with very little response to dropping carbs has existed for as long as I can remember. I'm super salt sodium sensitive and retain water easily. I also intermittent fasting around 20-24 hours a day. I haven't had the best luck with 36 hour fasting because I tend to overeat and gain it right back once the eating window opens. Very frustrating

9:09 - How Insulin Affects Hunger & Fat Loss

I mean naturally, humans were not meant to eat grains, and especially not sugar.

Sugar is so rare in nature that it might as well not exist.

Grains were never in humans' diet.

Just because there is an abundant of these food, processed, available, doesn't mean you should be consuming any of it.

That's the problem of modern times: abundance. Imagine if you were dropped into the woods with no contact with anyone, what would you be eating?

The answer is a lot more simpler than many make it out to be.

So I have been using the skinny syrups in my coffee, not large amounts really just small amounts to give it flavor. I have noticed weight loss is slower this time (in my 50s) I did Adkins in my 30s and keto again in my mid 40s, sadly I had significant weight loss both times but didn’t stick with it. I’m 53 now, also had a total thyroidectomy five years ago due to cancer, so I’m dealing with that too. Just wondering if those could be slowing down my progress (I’ve lost about 11 lbs in 21 days, I guess that’s not terrible as I think about it) I’m also doing some light strength training since my main goal is to rebuild my mobility and strength, but of course weight loss has to be a big part of that. I haven’t been good about keeping up with macros, I guess I need to do better with that. I also do the low carb shakes when I need to grab something quick and no time to cook anything, or just want something sweet and filling in the evenings. I basically try to eat a protein and two veggies or berries and add fats (butter, EVOO, or coconut oil) to all three servings. I’ve tried to boost my veggies/berries and make them a more substantial part of my diet this time around. Should I cut out the syrups altogether or leave it alone? I’m not noticing much changes physically yet, but I’ve also read that visceral fat is often the first to go, so since my overall health is the main goal, I’m happy to let that work its way down first for my overall health.

I have been obese and I have been slim more than once in my life. I started to roller coaster back in my teens in the late 1960's.
I discovered Atkins in the 1970's and got down to around 200 which was ok for my youthful 6'2" frame. Time went on and weight went up. I yoyoed through the years. This last February I was up to 280 and after listening to the Keto , Fasting, and Carnivore Docs and content creators., at 74 yo I again embarked on weight loss. This time I am armed with better science and knowledge. I have dropped 50 lbs so far ... got another 50 to go.
And, oh yes ... S L I M IS better. WAY better.

Hi Andrew. When it comes to physiological insulin resistance, or Adaptive Insulin Resistance, maybe it would be better called Adaptive Insulin Elevation or physiological Insulin Elevation, not Resistance. Why: the insulin is responding to the glucose so it elevates. When a person fasts, the insulin drops because glucose drops and then after the fast it goes right back up. All physiological. The term "physiological insulin resistance" can be confusing because it suggests the tissues are resisting insulin. What's actually happening is the beta cells are responding to persistent gluconeogenic signals. They're not overproducing; they're responding appropriately to the glucose being made. Probably because of amino acids. Make sense? I don't like saying physiological insulin resistance anymore.

The problem with Keto is that not everyone, in fact most, do not respond well to it when it comes to your metabolic lipid profile. Saturated fat is a real thing and it can impact your cardiovascular health in a very negative way. Fiber is crucial to mitigate thte rise in saturated fat, but it wont negate it. A keto diet rich in healthy fats is very difficult to achieve especially when seafood is not at all tolerated...

I love keto diet, so easy that I feel that I'm cheating. 7 years ago I used to have seizures, and overweight. Without any medication, I dropped weight, and haven't had seizure since. At first my dr. was against, however after couple of yearly physicals, and seen my blood results he admitted that is working great for me

I thank you first of all for explaining electrolytes in a manner I could understand, in past video I have watched they always talk about electrolytes and what type to buy etc however every time I looked at these to buy they were full of stuff the human body should not have so to me saying that I should salt my food and take in a bit salt every now and then is a lot better to understand and implement thank you. Now I can try the 5 day no food fasting. I once did a 3 day fast but couldn't go on for the next two days. I cut out all carbs 3 days ago, had chicken thighs and a small amount of cauliflower and I was full right to the next day at 5pm. This was so full of good information that others confused me about. thanks.

There’s still tons of ways to get that crunch even on a very very very low carb diet. Romaine lettuce and cucumbers are my go to and I dip them in things like mustards and I make my own ranch dressing using Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. Salads are allowed on keto I just don’t do high carb veggies anymore

Interesting conversation! I think sometimes it matters what time of the month we eat as well. If we eat eat around full moon our body’s tend to hold onto water and we gain weight more from less calories were as on new moon we can eat more and still not gain weight. Just saying that might have something to do with it as well.

@vladimirpoberezhniy2756

great talk, I don't think everyone needs to be keto though, lowering the carbs can help even if you don't eliminate them completely. I like to eat keto/carnivore during the day lowish carb at night. It's great.

Hi Thomas, great episode! Do you have any advice on how help fall a sleep that first days/weeks on keto? I find it so hard to fall a sleep in the night, no matter how tired I am I’m wide awake and can’t sleep. I understand this will normalise but until I get there 😅 trying magnesium and L-theanine in the evening and enough salt during the day, but not really helping.

Hey guys
The importance of high fat in the ketogenic diet is for learning when you’re not hungry and it also supports all hormones and getting these things back online also with a decrease carbohydrate leads to correction of insulin resistance

People don't understand that white sugar ( flour) is so toxic that the body frantically produces insulin like a trauma response to quickly rid your bloodstream of sugar. It's not just insulin that goes up but also adrenalin. Your body has an acute stress response when you consume it.
