Hey friends, if you've ever found yourself stuck in planning mode for weeks, months, or even years before taking action on your dreams, this video's for you. I'm breaking down what I call the Prison of Certainty - how our school system wired us to wait for perfect conditions that never come - and the mindset shifts that actually help you escape it and start making real progress. These are lessons I've learned building my own business and coaching hundreds of students through the exact same blocks. Hope this can be helpful xx

amazing video 💚💕

Hi Ali, I've been your subscriber for over years already, and I'm the kind of person similar to what you just talked about in this video. And I think the probable reason that I'm stuck is that I don't have a clear purpose or intentions, and I don't know where I can aim my time, efforts, and focus. So I would really appreciate it if you could recommend or create a video on "How to step by step find your purpose or your WHY?". Thank you!!!

00:00 Introduction

the neuroscience here is wild. when you rehearse worst case scenarios your amygdala actually grows. you are physically building a larger fear center. the mindset that keeps scanning for problems is not caution it is your brain rewiring itself to find more problems

03:25 Defend Mode vs Discover Mode

06:18 Why Real World Success Plays by Different Rules

The dangerous thing about a toxic mindset is that it feels logical. You tell yourself you’re just being realistic. You say “I’m not good enough,” “It’s too late for me,” or “Other people are just lucky.” After a while you actually believe it. Then you stop taking risks, you stop putting effort, and you stop believing things can change. It doesn’t explode your life. It slowly limits it.

I love the way Ali thought, with only 51% certainty, that Barrack Obama would watch this video, whilst the rest of us are at around 95% certainty that he wouldn't.

Funny how used to watch your ipad and spaced repetition videos to ace med school exams and then you started talking about business and I was like well I can’t relate with him anymore.
And now 3-4 years later I’m here actively looking for your business content! Looks like I caught up with you! 😂

This helps so much. I also just saw a video on "mental junk food" and the parallels of passive learning and the prison of certainty (discussed in this video) changed my perspective on progress and being stuck. Thanks Ali.

No one is stuck, we are exactly where we should be, and if it means broke, lonely, insecure, introvert or anything else then it's called life and it's the best teaching ever. We learn mostly from the most uncomfortable circumstances. You've got this people, make peace with it and you'll never feel anxiety ever again. Try experiments to improve your circumstances, enjoy doing these, the tasks the process of learning but don't expect any particular outcome, in a nutshell, do not speculate about your future, your efforts don't guarantee anything. The most freeing concept ever

Great Content here!! I was watching an earlier video by Ali on Why everyone Should Start a YouTube Channel end of last year. My belief is that this would be a huge waste of time and I should be focused on building or re-building my sales and business development consulting practice....guilt or shame for going off and shooting videos and uploading them on YouTube. I just had one of my Videos get over 500 views which is small change but from my first few videos of under 40 views...it is a game changer and just the Process of making Videos gives me a creative outlet which totally has re-focused my time and day of what matters. I love YouTube and everyone should start one for the Sake of Learning and Growth and gives your brain (my brain and thoughts) a new Pathway!! Gratefully. Sean

I think something is wrong with the sponsor section. The audio is lower than the rest, and I don’t think it’s a mistake. I had to raise the volume to hear what you said.

If my success hinges on my ability to make a LinkedIn post, I’ll pass. That place has turned into a bunch of self serving humble brag posts that are now mostly written with AI. It’s a giant circle jerk and I’d rather avoid that gravitational pull and do my own thing. Authenticity is king, and there’s little to be found on LinkedIn.

While I agree on the premise that overthinking kills progress, I I think you are severely overestimating the abundance of "easy experiments". This might be true for people who are financially backed up by their parents, are in their 20s and have no commitments, but for those with very few resources (or others depending on them), spending even just time on the wrong route is detrimental, as it could have been invested in preserving the (albeit not great) status quo, which is often necessary for survival, or in a more profitable endeavor.
Being successful enough with a linkedin post is NOT as easy as it was 10-15 years ago anymore, so the overthinking might simply come from "I am running out of time because of x(insert whatever negative outcome someone is experiencing, be it age or running out of money), and if I flunk THIS TOO, AGAIN, I'm gonna be in a way worse place than I am now. 2 way doors are not a reality for most of these people.
Heck, even going on date nowadays puts you at risk of finding a bats*it crazy person who is gonna stalk you, or steal your money, or worse.
I've coached a lot of people who are just tired of hitting the ball wrong, and that alone legitimated caution in the next step.

This reminds me of a concept in software engineering CICD. I love applying that concept to my real life

Thanks! This is a channel support comment! :P I love this content, and it applies to a lot of people with ADHD as well. I just realized that I could use the "What if I just run the experiment", on a way smaller scale as well. "What if I just run the experiment of trying to finish my work that I was procrastinating on in 1 hour, and just see what happens?", or "What if I do what i think is just 80% good, but will relieve me stress from not having to finalize so much?". For me, I have now my first client and I'm shit scared I will disappoint him. So to overcome this fear I will run this experiment.
