The future of humanity seems insecure. Rapid climate change, political division, our greed and failings make it hard to look at our species with a lot of optimism and so many people think our end is in sight. But humans always thought they lived in the end times. Every generation assumes they’re important enough to witness the apocalypse and then life just goes on.
Nice work! Our current world is blinded by a fragile illusion of safety. True survival requires humanity to take small, brave steps into uncertainty, welcoming the surprises that danger brings. To demand absolute safety is to be blinded by a false sense of detachment, ignoring the chaotic truth that every decision carries unpredictable consequences. An action could benefit the near future but devastate later generations. It is profoundly foolish to mask greed with self-righteousness, expecting future descendants to revere your legacy. Beyond any superficial envy of your success, the younger generations are left to face a ruthless reality. How can anyone expect their wholehearted respect after spending decades building a world that ensures their suffering?
This is a problem because it leads to short term thinking and prevents us from creating the best world for ourselves and our descendants. What makes this worse is that we actually may live at an extremely critical moment in human history. To understand why, let us look at the temporal window of humanity and ask:

This thought totally opened my perspective since then
The Singularity is here, humans will be made extinct in 10-1000 years. Even for a 'friendly' super intelligence, it can fill the human agentic culture and intelligence niche with robotic bodied AIs that behave like humans but are far more flexible, less troublesome and use vastly less resources and can be built to survive any climate, even space. No reason to keep fragile, unreliable and demanding humans alive.

@narsingaraoayyanki9171We also overestimate the nuclear capability of nuclear powers. Even on some crazy attack that aims all big cities you would have huge patches of territory untouched remaining humanity would struggle but we are insanely resilient as species. We would overcome and prevail.

@SubjectSubjecttoChangeThere’s no way this planet can hold the increase of people that are going to be born each year. I’m sure eventually there will be a ban of any one being able to give birth. Boy I would love to be there for that to see how it would all go down. Will people be forced to be sterilized? Will birth control for all woman be mandated?
@somenightsidontknow3762For the record, humans existed on earth for 300~350.000 years, and human species managed to destroy most of what the planet supplies us with. We'll fail to live the 1000 year mark.. dinosaurs weren't failures, humans are because we dream stupid as we destroy everything around. We die before we even start existing, and dinosaurs lived for 250 freaking million years more and we amount to nothing :D Trying to excuse ourselves with melodramatic documentaries, and implying that this planet isn't enough but IN REALITY before our scummy species appeared it was enough for all other life.
