I used Cognify to pull the points that mattered: focus like a drill, go back to what you loved as a kid, and give yourself permission + the stubborn commitment to follow it.
Deep focus and long, uninterrupted concentration unlock real creative progress short bursts won’t get you through the “drill bit.”
Passion is often discovered by looking back at what you loved earlier in life, not by endlessly searching ahead.
Permission, courage, and sustained commitment (not just curiosity) turn a latent interest into a life’s work.

Listening at your videos about how you think and speak, and i love your mindset in general, and just from the beginning of focusing at one thing for hours ( i had all people against me because of that, fighting for that sacred time and space because they don´t understand) made me to feel strange and angry for years…but i am really glad to listen at these topics, this wisdom…make me to feel less alone and understood…unfortunately we want it from our family sometimes and we suffer a lot when we don’t receive it…it seems that the path is alone most of the time despite the sufferance behind the scenes.. thanks Robert!

Accomplishment = Talent * Effort^Focus + Random Events.

Effort and Focus are in one's control. Talent is revealed by the application of Effort; Talent is like a seed that has to be planted properly and cared for in order to germinate, grow and be fruitful.

The second term can take on positive and negative values; be alert for both the good and bad breaks.

One can't know one's capabilities until one makes the attempt.

Mastery

Author: Robert Greene
Published: 2012
Genre: Self-help / Psychology / Career development / Philosophy

⸝

Overview

Mastery is Robert Greene’s in-depth exploration of how individuals achieve excellence and long-term success in any field. Drawing on the lives of historical and contemporary masters—from Leonardo da Vinci to Temple Grandin, Mozart to Freddie Roach—Greene lays out a systematic path to personal greatness.

Rather than offering quick hacks, Mastery emphasizes deep work, patience, and lifelong learning. It’s a modern manual for unlocking your potential through the power of deliberate practice, intuition, and creative breakthroughs.

⸝

Core Message

“Everyone holds the potential for mastery—it is a matter of following a path and embracing the process.”
—Robert Greene

Mastery is not a gift. It is the result of years of passion, learning, discipline, and adaptation.

⸝

The 6-Phase Journey to Mastery

Each phase is grounded in real-life examples and practical strategies.

1. Discover Your Calling (Life’s Task)
• Identify your inner purpose or natural inclinations.
• Childhood interests often hold the key to your true path.

2. Submit to Reality (Apprenticeship)
• Embrace the long period of learning.
• Observe, absorb, and master the basics before innovating.
• Be humble—don’t chase early success.

3. Absorb the Master’s Power (Mentorship)
• Find a mentor to accelerate your learning curve.
• The ideal mentor gives both guidance and tough love.
• Learn through imitation, then transcend them.

4. See People as They Are (Social Intelligence)
• Understand human nature.
• Avoid political naiveté and develop emotional intelligence.
• Master yourself to master others.

5. Awaken the Dimensional Mind (Creative-Active Phase)
• Synthesize knowledge and innovate.
• Begin combining disciplines and developing intuition.
• Risk failure for the sake of originality.

6. Fuse the Intuitive with the Rational (Mastery)
• Achieve effortless, instinctive performance.
• Your knowledge becomes second nature.
• You now create, not imitate.

⸝

Key Concepts
• Apprenticeship trumps raw talent.
• 10,000 hours of practice is a milestone, but not a rule.
• Social intelligence is as vital as technical skills.
• Repetition and patience are the bedrock of innovation.
• Resistance, boredom, and failure are necessary parts of the process.

⸝

Style & Structure
• Blends historical biography, neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy.
• Every chapter includes case studies of famous masters (e.g., Darwin, Edison, Martha Graham, Einstein).
• Ends with practical advice for applying each principle.

⸝

Why the Title?

“Mastery” refers to achieving the highest possible level of skill, creativity, and understanding in your chosen domain—not just competence, but transcendence.

It’s about becoming not just skilled, but original, visionary, and free.

⸝

Key Takeaways
• Find your passion early—or reconnect with it.
• Devote yourself to long-term development.
• Mentorship is a shortcut to wisdom.
• Learn the rules before you break them.
• True mastery is creative, intuitive, and timeless.

Towards the end of this video, Robert mentions sports as an example of a type of time for the brain to be let free of the overly-focussed aim that encompasses the day.

What other types of things like sports are there that are able to achieve this intentionally ‘unproductive’ downtime?

You wake up everyday with another opportunity to pursue what you are interested in. Take as much time as you need to figure it out. Perhaps the best kind of success is knowing that you gave it your all and can hold no regrets when you go to sleep at night.

Pornography is Evil, one of the most self destructive habits a young man or women can fall into, it corrupts the mind and hearts of the person viewing it, and it degrades the person watching it, and it degrades the people involved in that evil industry, human beings are than reduce to something selfish, that will serve nothing more than to satisfy us sexually, but there is not real connections, and human beings made in the image of God are than reduce to something worthless and selfish, sex is a gift from God, but it was meant to be something pure to have a strong connection and attachment to your significant other, but Satan and the Porngraphy industry has completely made it something so disgusting and evil, so for anyone struggling with it, know that it is possible to build strong methods to completely remove it from your life, and to finally be freed from such a evil degrading habit, and you will feel soooo much more better about yourself, your self esteem will improve greatly and your energy and mood will be seen by your family/friends/co-workers/strangers in public, trust me you got this, but you must guard your heart and mind, build better habits, reading, exercise, spending more time with loved ones, getting better quality sleep, you will feel unstoppable, and relapses will most likely happen, but if you decrease the amount of times you do it, that is progress, and you should not feel ashamed of that, but of course the goal is to completely cut it out of your life, and you can!

Believe in yourselves.

Robert, thank you. I know you won’t see this, but I wanted to thank you for the work you’re doing. Your book, The Laws of Human Nature, caught my attention when it came out. While I haven’t read it yet, it’s stayed in the corner of my mind and since then I’ve followed you from a distance. I read a quote recently and I think it’s not accident that this interview popped up for me; it’s a Rumi quote: When you start to walk on the way, the way appears. I habitually discount the way when it appears after I’ve started walking there. I think I don’t realize that the things popping up are because of me and what I want to create. Now the lightbulbs are turning on (Haha). For you and your recovery, I wonder if you’re applying the same passion to your healing that you do to your writing? Jill Bolte-Taylor is a great example of someone who healed herself after a stroke. Also, there are accounts of people’s incredible recoveries in The Brain that Changes Itself by Norman Doidge, MD. Also, Dr. Joe Dispenza has amazing books and lectures around healing. I am not assuming anything about your recovery. I just would like for you to be able to continue your work. Thank you.

I understand the point Ryan makes about being pulled away from the thing that made you successful by new commitments and distractions I think it's a valid concern but I wonder if it's one that can be circumvented by always keeping in mind the source or reason for those new commitments/distractions and how none of them would be if it weren't for that one thing that made you successful. It's like not taking care of your health or ability to concentrate or sleep. You can try to neglect those if you want to but everything that depends on those factors will crumble if you don't prioritize them. Does anyone else agree? (Love your work Robert, i'll meet you someday!)

God created man from a leech, then turned him into a chew, then into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then turned him into another creation, and then he said after all this complex detail, you then die, and he did not explain anything about. The period of the home of human formation and death, and the commentators said that this means that this period of human life is only a few seconds, but in the balance of human beings it is longer
For that do what you can in this life do not be sad for anything, you are in this world just a passerby
