2:28 I think you added an extra vowel into aluminum. Please tell the rest of the UK as well, thanks

Japanese company crack me up. "We make toilets. Oh, and the most advanced silicon wafer mount used by ASML" Wait, what?
08:10 The Big 5
14:08 The Replication Problem
11:19 the reason why the usa has itar and export control is because the Department of energy owns the patent on EUV and allows ASML to use it so it's not really that insane as to why the USA would ask that the Dutch not share it with its biggest geopolitical rivals, China

It’s not that complex. Counterfeit chips, that’s another story.

"hi what do you manufacture here?"
"we have these high end toilets" "mhm" "and these luxury bathtubs" "cool" "and those fancy faucets" "dope" "and these atomically uniform thermally stable diamagnetic ceramic disks used in manufacturing the most advanced microchips" "bruh"

- Sankey Visual Data (I weighted this by supplier spending, some of these companies are private so exact numbers may be delayed on inaccurate. Some data has been inferred by working backwards from listed suppliers amongst the public companies. I just wanted to make a pretty diagram)

Special mentions not covered in the video:
Trumpf makes the only lasers that can meet the requirements for ASML's high-end EUV lithography machines
Spruce Pine in Carolina is the world's only mine with quartz pure enough for quartz tubes used in diffusion and oxidation furnaces
Until recently, several Japanese companies were the only ones who could make the specialty bottles to hold photoresist without the photoresist degrading or being exposed to undesired light. Chinese companies have only recently created such bottles independently, but have not been able to break the monopoly yet.

You are saying, i cant have tpus for 300 dollars in the upcoming years.... damn.... do semiconductors cost a lot of energy to make? Ohhh.... damn i thought they were so cheap to make...
There is not much that hasn’t already been said, about AI data centers, the chips that power them, the companies that manufacture those chips and the machines that they rely on to do it.
But all of this is really only scratching the surface of what is very likely to be the most complex supply chain in the world.
Slop, slop and more slop
The chips that come out of this particular FAB are not even a fully finished product yet, but even here they are the result of over 6,000 individual suppliers from over 40 countries, making the machines that make the machines, that make the machines, that power the world's most advanced technologies.
This is a supply chain that is simultaneously far more robust than you have probably been told, but also full of far more bottlenecks,,, which I know sounds like an oxymoron, but I promise it will make sense…
As a chemical engineer working in specialty chemicals, I'm glad my contribution to this was "the specialty gases coming from air liquide and linde". When you know what it takes to get one single chemical within quality parameters, it makes the entire thing seem impossible.

And your latest Vaccine, haha, i had to chuckle.
@kongengorm3360and into vaccines 😂😂
@drx2eiSo many unanswered questions here. How on earth does the USA impose EXPORT controls on a European country? That makes absolutely no sense.
@davepubliday6410Rare earth elements “can’t avoid China”. Why should we avoid China? Don’t most consumer goods come from China anyways? What’s more wrong with China than the USA? China can be legitimately criticized, but China hasn’t invaded anyone in half a century; The USA invaded someone less than half a year ago.
@davepubliday6410What the heck does “all these suppliers are European or North American because of the geopolitical concerns around this technology” mean? What are the concerns? Who determined that? Who ensures that? How is that enforced? Why only the white countries?
@davepubliday6410Is there anyway you could make that supply chain graph accessible on a website please ?
@delec9665And your latest vaccines i almost missed it but good one.
@teg-q5tWhat an incredible video thanks for making. I really respect the effort put into this
@sandrogtz"Your unemployed ass"😂😂
@abh-e6iMe just waiting for my country to be cited so i know we can stop the whole supply chain if someone's not kind
@C_DeghegTop tier ❤❤
@msk9182To put it in the easy 10:10 layman's term: You're shooting a tin droplet with the size of a sugar drop, being shot/moving almost at the speed of sound, with two very powerful lazor beam to produce an unnatural UV light so you can project image using grids of a thousands, very very very very very small mechanical mirror smaller than a strand of hair a few times to a vaporize a very thin copper on a sand plate, making it look like a sand carving with non-vaporized copper line drawings as the electric line, and you're doing this 50.000 times in a second 24/7 every day.
@TarodenaroStill not as complicated at the easiest factorio mods
@sleepyturtle99NEED that sankey diagram, could you link the file?
@reeduckulisGreat depth, thanks for the analysis!
@kiskobra1:00 *that power the world's most advanced machines
@quartershotofespressoWish this video would've gone more in-depth about the making of the silicon wafers themselves. Their extraction is such a delicate and secretive process no patents are deposed to avoid the risk of industry replication, even illegally. These crystals have to be extracted at a fraction of a millimeter per minute, and often take several months to extract fully. Most people in the industry describe the process of silicon crystal growth as "black magic".
@abdc2990How do make such a diagram?
@TM-fk4gtSoo .. so far Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, US, Germany, some France ? (On the company choke point sides mentioned in the video)
@wednes3dayThis is the real moat
