The Highest Level of Tennis We've Ever Seen

Video Overview & Insights

What is the highest level of tennis ever reached?

Dimitrov vs nadal in AO 2017 semifinal

— @eeeee40377

From Rafael Nadal's "God Mode" on the clay of Roland Garros to Novak Djokovic suffocating the world's best, and the brutal new standard set by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner - we are breaking down the most unplayable, one-sided and statistically impossible matches in the open era.

In this video, we look at the moments where top pros were made to look like they were attending a tennis clinic, the monumental upsets where underdogs played completely out of their minds, and the legendary 5-hour wars that defined the absolute ceiling of the sport.

Big underdogs into GOATs stories for me – 1. Nalbandian's run at Madrid 2007 when he defeated The Big Three in one tournament. 2. Nikolay Davydenko run at ATP Finals in 2009 where he defeated Nadal, Federer and del Potro. These are Roman Empires for me)

— @papermaaan

From Grand Slam demolitions like Nadal vs Federer at Roland Garros in 2008 and Djokovic vs Nadal at AO 2019. To Sinner vs Ruud at Rome in 2025 and Federer vs Murray at the ATP Finals in 2024.

If you love deep-dive tennis analysis, brutal match stats, and celebrating the peaks of the Big 3 and the new era, this ones for you.

6:17 was 2009 but ACE said 2019? Did you guys catch it?😅

You mentioned 2015 RG when Rafa was basically dominated by almost everyone. He was at his lowest then 🙄

@zimplyzee

Federer 2017 was at a crazy level as he cruised through the sunshine double. Federer/kyrgios 2017 Miami was an especially awesome match. 3 tie breaks

Players that come to mind.. Stan Warwinka, Del Potro, Nick Kyrgios, Dustin Brown, and Dennis Istomin vs Novak in the 2017 aussie open 2nd round.

I found the 2024 Wimbledon final quite shocking. Given their intense battle the previous year, for Alcaraz to just dominate Djokovic and win in straight sets, felt like I was witnessing a whole new level of tennis

1 match I would put out there - 2011 French open semi final Federer vs Djokovic. Federer broke his 41 match winning streak in the year and his only loss to Nadal/Federer that year. I remember watching and Novak played great tennis but Federer was a man possessed that day. It really was just a freak performance where he went in knowing he had to take big risk to beat Novak and every risk was working for him. Its rarely mentioned as a great match - as a Rafa fan I was happy of course. But that match probably stopped Novak's best chance to win all 4 in a year, I truly think he would have won the final vs Rafa.

2015 quarters of Roland Garros nadal had wrist injury, don't count it in demolition,if any player is not 90-100 percent fit

Soderling was 2009, not 2019. Great video, though!

The greatest clay court battles ever were in 2021 and 2013 between Nadal and Djokovic.

@hobaryiscool4u
@

There are many great battles between the Big Three. Djokovic outlasting Nadal in Wimbledon 2018 was a great match for the ages. Djokovic Federer 2011 battles in Roland Garros and New York were masterpieces in shot making. All Federer Djokovic matches at Wimbledon were historic and beautiful. The final set in the Melbourne 2017 final was Federer at his absolute best taking it to Nadal.

@hobaryiscool4u
@

The two best matches that should have made the list were Wawrinka Djokovic Australian Open 2013 and Wimbledon Final 2009.

Also would have been nice to mention extremely talented but underachieving players reaching their full potential but that couldn’t finish the match due to injury.

Zverev Rafa Rolland Garros and Dimitrov Sinner Wimbledon. No doubt in my mind they both win the match and the tournament had they not gotten injured. Such bad fortune,

Let’s not forget the 2007 Madrid Open, where David Nalbandian beat Rafa, Djokovic, and Federer back-to-back-to-back to take the title... One of the craziest runs ever. 😧

Rafa on clay is the highest level in tennis!

French Open - 14 titles, won it four times in a row twice and once won it five times in a row! 112-4 Goated record, never lost a final, never took the final to the 5th set, bagelled his two biggest opponents in the final

Overall: 63 titles and 51 losses (more titles than losses lol)
81 match winning streak!

Took the tour 9 years to finally beat him in Monte Carlo!

His 2010 Monte Carlo run is impossibly good

Monte Carlo - 11 titles
Barcelona 12 titles
Madrid - 4 titles (on clay)
Rome - 10 titles
Roland Garros - 14 titles! (4 without dropping a set!)

Rafa Nadal at the French Open - The Final Boss in Tennis!

@YTviewer2099
@

Meh 2015 RG wasn't that good a match. Rafa wasn't even close to his best in 2015 and everyone knew that. Novak's 2021 win was much more impressive, at least he could outlast Nadal that day.

Good idea for a video but I hate this kind of montage. Let me watch some actual tennis. Show me those winners, those dominant performances, not just 1 sec cuts

AO 2012 Final Djokovic vs Nadal is the best match in history by far.

@PadrinoGambino

The Fernando Gonzalez vs Nadal quarter final at the 2007 Australian Open, it was an absolute madness, 6-2 / 6-4 / 6-3, 42 Winners by Gonzalez vs 13 by Nadal. And even more in the next match against Tommy Haas, which was just as insane, a 6-1 / 6-3 / 6-1 demolition where Fernando Gonzalez was completely untouchable: 42 winners to just 3 unforced errors (I´ve never seen something like that), an absurd ratio at that level, completely overwhelming Haas, who finished with only 16 winners. It felt like he was playing on another level entirely, one of those rare moments where everything clicks and no opponent, no matter how good, can do anything about it. It´s even more incredible thinking in all the wisk and agresiveness that Gonzo's game had, what an amazing and fun player to watch

@MC-nb8wy

This video is just another bitter fed cultist passove aggressively trying to dismiss Djokovic clearly having the highest level of tennis we’ve yet seen.

djokovic didnt even win the 2015 french open lol.

Final of RG 2008. The year of the mononucleosis of Federer. Try something else. And for Wimbledon this year, Federer started the match thinking that he was going to loss. And Federer played A game!!?? Lol. If you want a match where both played well look at the Wimbledon final in 2012 or the final of the master 2005. Insane level. And I am not even talking about Djokovic/Federer in RG 2011.

Gonzalez against Nadal in AO 2007 and Tsonga against Nadal in 2008 for the one sided.

Solid list: I think for the highest levels segment you missed a few classics: Fed-Safin 05 AO, Fed-Nadal 06 Rome & 07 WIM, Nadal-Verdasco 09 AO, Fed-Djoker 11 FO & USO & 14 WIM, Nadal-Djoker 13 FO & 18 WIM, and Stan-Djoker 13 AO & 15 FO. Also, Kygs-Fed 17 Miami & Alcaraz-Djoker 23 Cincy are all-time 3 setters. That said I know there is only so much you can include. I may be in a minority here but I feel 19 WIM F is actually not a high quality match but nevertheless as dramatic as it gets. I personally think the 14 WIM F is higher quality from both Fed and Novak.
