The inhabitants of outremer or the Frankish kingdoms took on a lot of Arab ways including the language- much to the disgust of new arrivals from Europe. Indeed there were numerous occasions were Arab potentiates fought against rival Arab Muslims with Christian allies.

The entire movie is about faith, and the scene just as much.
Without it Baldwin would remain in his bed, unbelieving of his purpose.

It's also one of the scenes i admire a lot, including the scene where they take over Jerusalem and he picked up the Cross with respect and put it on the table. Those scenes communicate layers of insights that many miss. There is another thing, while it may be implied with respect, it's actually respect, humility and communication. Once can say humility is communicated, but i think calling it out emphasizes it as something that must be a common denominator to both respect and communication. Without humility in respect, communication breaks down. Without humility in communication, respect is a facade. In this scene, both have deep respect and use deep communication to portray humility - a reverence to the other. Recall he said -- we will all die here. That's becuase he knows that he is a graet warrior, and that both sides are actually equall.

Not including the part Jerusalem has arrived is a miss.

I like your perspective, and the scene is powerful. But, unfortunately, all wars of recent few centuries have been created, facilitated, and managed not by the generals and those who fought, but by bankers, cartels, those who own the corporations and politicians of every country. The whole scene begins with the armies of Jerusalem appearing out of the haze.

One of the reasons put forward for the earlier victories of the crusaders was that they believed they had found part of the true cross and this was taken into battle with themand so inspired them. Of course it's rubbish, as the cross was a con, and their victories can be put down to other reasons, but it still remains a great explanation.

I disagree. I believe that Charlie Chaplin is responsible for the best scene in all of cinema.

In the “Great Dictator” ( 1940 ) Chaplin delivers a monologue that is simply sublime and timeless. And he gives the speech while WWII is going on, while he’s looking like Hitler.

The monologue is fantastic and it’s about the opposition to war. That short speech is powerful and is especially relevant today.
And the best part is that Charlie was not reading the words written by someone else. Charlie wrote the script and was granted full creative control in the making of the movie.

I highly suggest that you give the movie a try.
