I don't mean to be a doomer. But the one thing that's different now than back then is the end stages of hypertechnology. We are basically at a point where those that hold the tech can decide the future. I hardly believe that these changes will happen because of how much power they have over us and our technology

I noticed this as well due to the resurgence of eugenics. I've been fighting that whole rhetoric with everything I got because I work in healthcare, started my career engineering/repairing the lab equipment used for genetic research, and then in court some racist people got away with picking on me for my genetic admixture by claiming racism is okay when it is scientific.

So, here is my deal. I started writing a Bioethics paper and it's been in and out of peer-review but it has been getting positive criticism. Like the journals want the paper but the finding a multidisciplinary journal for an empirical review of the literature in a field as well as statistical analysis, history, political science, legal studies, anthropology etc is tough. The first couldn't do a full review because of that so they wrote a letter of recommendation and provided their review. The second journal did us (I have a team) a disservice by ignoring most of the paper and replying with some racist garbage that was directed discussed within the paper. They just never read it. Now we have submitted to a third journal but their a school so we're waiting for the school to start their year. Technically we did get a pass very early on with an agreement to publish but we discussed that journal's bias in the paper so I wanted to avoid them. They're one of the biggest journals but they're a paper mill so they've published most of the modern eugenic literature out there today.

It is a mess. They got rid of the Presidential Bioethics Commission and then PubMed got flooded with racist garbage. It has led to a bunch of misdiagnosises and I believe (because this is our study) that these eugenic stereotypes about minorities has influenced hate crime. And what is weird is our study was already done during the Nuremberg Trials so we're basically repeating that exact history.

I am going to be honest with those who read this... this fight has utterly destroyed me but what am I to do? I believe we are all humans create as equals. Our values, ideals, and how we treat people should be what defines us, not our DNA.

Being able to save the equivalent of $600 a month with that job actually seems quite good, depressingly. I think this "data centers don't employ anyone" thing I keep hearing is BS though. Big data centers contain a LOT of complicated hardware and wiring. These type of things break, get misconfigured, need upgrading and replacement A LOT. This requires human beings still at this point, at least a few hundred per DC including their managers, HR, janitorial staff, security, etc. These people are probably about half contract workers, which means their employment requires the employment of hundreds more people to manage that side of things. Did I mention that besides the people maintaining the hardware at the DCs, the existence of DCs enables the employment of hundreds of engineers who USE the hardware to do development work and run AI workloads. I mean AI does a lot of stuff, but it doesn't do it by itself. Someone has to plan things out and actually tell it what to do.

The other wild card is the number of guns.

As a former history, major myself… I enjoyed the content, but I have to disagree. History doesn’t rhyme nor repeat itself. In this case, I think there are forces that are entirely in control that we cannot shift. Whether we like it or not, I think we’re stuck in this Gilded Age Part II for at least the next 20 years. They know… “they” meaning the corporations current robber barons… They got us by the balls especially since they are completely in bed with the federal government. Politicians whether state local or federal are also in with these corporations in order to their own pockets so I don’t see change coming anytime in the next 10 years. I think that’s what most people are forgetting. Even their local leaders are in bed with energy, corporations, food, corporations, etc.

I may also add that George Carlin provided a much more accurate commentary as to how it’s not going to change.

2:10 Does it need to be pointed out that the portion of the graph where inequality declines were economically stagnant with high inflation, with the early 80s having double digit inflation, and the time period from the mid 80s to the mid 2000's were economically strong for mid income people. Perhaps the wealth inequality was low because nobody had any money?

The one thing you forgot to mention when talking about rent along the poverty line in 2026 is that, in 2026 you would not be able to qualify for that 900 sq foot apartment on the $27k wage because the rent to income ration would be too high for a rental company to approve the lease

Yes rent is much more...but food is much less...AND as recent as the 1960s a 900/1000 sq ft home ( 2 or 3 small bedrooms 1 maybe 1 1/2 bath) was for Dad + pregnant Mon + 2 children + Fido or Fluffy..so 900 Sq ft for 2 adults and 1 kid should be comfortable ( even if you add 2 more kids)
