THE GAME THAT GOT ME INTO HORROR | Ib
Video Overview & Insights
Today we talk about an old RPG maker Horror game called Ib, we go over the Ib Endings, and an Ib Analaysis. It's a disturbing game and I am known for disturbing game analysis so lets get into it.
I glaze this game everytime it shows up in my feed, and it's completely deserved. Everytime someone asks me what game influenced me the most in life "Ib" will always be the first name I drop until the day I drop dead.

Hell yeah, just saw this now, haven't watched yet but I plan to. Ib is one of those games that always brings a dizzying nostalgic feeling to me. I discovered it back in 2014 when I was roughly 12, along with Corpse Party as Pewdiepie was playing it. They both introduced me to two entirely different facets of horror and I loved every bit of both. The theme 'Memory' always immediately brings me to that place and time when I wasn't worrying if I was a failure or going to make it in life, but instead endlessly able to immerse myself in these games. Also, check out YASUpochi guitar, he's the composer (and probably producer) of much of the soundtrack. Iirc his music was part of a library, but for me it became iconic for Ib in particular.

Check out my friends streams!
I usually stick to videos to see the story and analysis of games, but something about Ib made me want to play it myself and I'm so happy I did, its a great memory and I get excited any time I see something about it. So thanks for the great video!

To me the worst part of the together forever ending, is that in the original version, after Ib's nightmare Garry will give her a piece of lemon candy. Cut to the ending, Mary will snoop in Ib's pocket and just eat the candy instead 😭😭

It's crazy to think you and I had watched PewDiePie's Ib series at the same time, during an anxiety filled period of pivotal change in our lives, impacted by it in the same way, and think about its story and soundtracks to this day. I feel like nearly everyone else forgot about it. Glad to share this moment with you Pugsr

Im terribly sorry, but does anyone know the name of the background classical music that plays during the video? With the string instruments.

To be fair…I’ve seen some RPG Horror Maker games with TWISTED endings so Garry being a deceiver isn’t that…unheard of lol
@maggie_knolastnameI always said those heads looked like Voldemort with a nose lol
@maggie_knolastnameSomething beautiful I’ve noticed in the best ending:
Following the theme of Art having the ability to transcend the mind and memory, in the best ending, you create a piece of artwork.
Through your emotional bond with Gary and your journey together, you build a narrative.
A young girl finds a lost man, and through their journey together they both find their way home.
Like a fairytale, they lose the memories of their journey… but the sight alone, of that same man clutching a young girl’s handkerchief, while looking at a stature of a rose representing strength of will… it’s enough to convey the entire story to him and Ib once more.
The ending itself, is you creating a thing a story, a thing of art that transcends the limits of the human mind and memory.
Maybe that’s why many of us remember this game so fondly…
I think you should check out the game Death Palette. Love your vids by the way. ❤️
@SaxmoJazzThere's Aria's Story, a cute and whimsically spooky RPG Maker adventure available for free on itch!
* Plot: A teenage bookworm is suggested a new shipment of books by her local librarian and falls asleep reading one of them. Waking up in a closed library at night, Aria tries to find a way out only to discover a magical alternate library hidden within the building. In order to return to her world, our heroine must journey through each of the themed sections of the book world, e counting a colorful cast of living books and unusual residents.
* There are 5 endings plus a bonus area with additional content
* All music in the game is free/fair use.
For me memories cranny is my canon ending, as much as I’d like to see Gary and Ib reunited and remember everything once back from the fabricated world I feel like them having that little interaction and going their own separate ways is a concise and beautifully melancholic way to end the adventure you just experienced, I’ve been meaning to play this game for years and finally did recently I don’t regret it great game.
(P.S anyone reading this u should try Signalis if you liked Ib, very similar games with different themes I think you’ll love it!)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder sufferer here: I have never been able to play any of the horror games I feel so attracted to. I just can't. I get blocked and I just have to stop. Same goes for horror movies. But I have found myself interested in the deep and unsettling stories these media can provide. So I just wanted to tell you that your channel has been an amazing discovering for me.
Your trigger warnings are always on point, your voice is soothing and - as a non native English speaking - I really love your voice. So the fact that you take the time to introduce and then go 'chapter by chapter' with all the books, movies and games you talk about allows me to engage with the content I find myself fascinated and paralyzed by (at the same time).
To sum it up: thank you so much for your work. I'm really happy about you being able to monetize your videos and I always let the ads run because that's the only way I can support you for now. But your work is, to a certain extent, healing for me. If only because I can see myself reflected on how you react most of the time. Thank you so much.
Emetophobia mentioned
I'll try to deal with it with a therapist soon cuz daily bus rides are getting worse and worse. I always feel better hearing about other people's experiences with it cuz I feel like most of those who don't have that phobia don't realize how much impact does it have on our daily life
The ending of the game reminded me ateongly of mirror mask
@ceilingfan1813The fan ending where Ib sacrifices herself, letting Mary and Garry live out their real lives as brother and sister, but with Mary remembering all and Garry not...and Mary weeping for Ib upon seeing her sacrifice painting replace one of Guartena's hits harder than any of the canon endings.
@matthewsteele99ITS DEDEDEDEDEDEATHGRIPS
@justink8156at about 10:00 i was half listening while working and all I heard was "come" and then "thief" which would have been a very different story.
@jeremysmith4620I couldn't get into it but I've heard nothing but praises for it extremely off topic but would you be interested in doing a video on vermis books?
@jeniskindofi had a huge crush on garry when i was 13 lol
@tinyleafsA rose tattoo seems nebulous enough to be just a rose or a reminder of this game.
@TheKhfan0013:22 Shows "Guertena" says "Gueterna". Oof.
@QuestionMarc15:14 wtf!?
@andybaker8775Another couple of ‘cozy horror games’ I return to every so often are the visual novel ‘the testimony of Trixie Glimmer Smith’, Little Misfortune, and Pocket Mirror. These are somehow really soothing without being overly stressful types of horror.
@meg2249Oh wow the remastered looks significantly different from the OG
@alysonsinkie9296Dude, Ib was the first game to ever make me cry.
@TheGateShallStandThis is one of my favorite games and the last time I've played it is when I'm in HS and now I'm working. I love that there are still video essays about it. I feel absolutely sad for Mary and wished that there will be an ending where they can leave all together. When Ib+ came out, I got excited. Maybe that ending is here now. But then apparently not. So :( I didn't get it.
@MsliliheartThis, this was THE GAME to get me into horror all those years ago
@foxxbakerJust wanted to say, genuinly love your content and keep up the good work. 🎉
@acetgoodForgotten Portrait is tha best ending imo, or at least tha one with tha most dramatic weight & sense of tragedy; garry sacrifices himself for ib, ib destroys mary & escapes tha world of guertena but, its implied, is haunted & alienated by her experience. A Portrait's Demise comes close to achieving tha same level of bittersweet tragedy, but it leans too far into grimdark Tales From Tha Crypt schlock nightmare territory
@awnaur0no919A game that I highly recommend checking out is When the Darkness Comes, it's free and a pretty great experience
@mrdoki9109shout out pugsr, i'm also emetophobic!!! its a lot more debilitating than people think it is. solidarity man
@kurikameI'm only a few minutes into the video but it feels so validating to hear someone who has had a similar experience of emetophobia. Hope you're doing well - it's a hard one.
@givernyburke5517Dead space is definitely not merely gross out horror, at least the first two
It’s heavily cosmic horror and psychological horror
33:38 I always figured he had more health because he's a grown adult vs a prepubescent child.
@TheOpticalMouseWould you ever consider playing Ann by Rong Rong? I can see how Ib inspired it.
@ultravioletsheepFor some reason when you said eve I thought of the survival horror game, parasite eve.
@berniekatzroyMerry Isn't evil, She just lonely and also desperate to see the real world as opposed to rejoin as Garry and Ib, It is tragic they can't all leave, There is a fan version if I remeber which added "Neither Orenge nor purple" ending where Ib pushes both Merry and Garry out back to real world, Also there'sa short comic strip, The orginal creator didn't like it and seeked to supress the version via copyright.
@kacperpiotrowski7239Thank you, providing the only non slop content
@LilSebby-m4di wonder..have u checked out "slay the princess" yet? id love a take of u to analyse it =D
@solveigfrankI had to watch this over the course of the day because the dread I still feel from this game is so intense. It’s so amazing how much weight the game holds
@AnaSingh-o2cib was my first introduction to horror also! so glad it was and the game is so special to me to this day
@vanillar2794Love your channel and vids, Pugsy 🖤 Thanks again
@bettedavisjrOmg a fellow horror lover who also struggles (struggled?) with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder relating to emetophobia. I've had the exact same phobia since I was a child and have gone through phases of my life where i was afraid to leave the house in fear of contracting norovirus 😂 I still struggle a lot with the phobia but I love the horror genre as a kind of controlled way to experience anxiety
@carla54817:10 Personally I view it as a creation of Mary's, as its drawn similar to her little world later in the game, either being that she has a lack of understanding with the real world. Additionally acting almost like foreshadowing(?) For how far Mary will go to get something(Garrys fate in some endings and her desire of going into the real world). Idk thats my speculation on it.
@UmbraticStickerzIB, IB MY BELOVED
@vpelno2077yassss Ib mentioned!!!!! It introduced me to so many other rpg maker games
