The Ending Of Blade Runner 2049 Explained

Video Overview & Insights

Ridley Scott has made some classic movies in various genres and is one of the most gifted filmmakers of the last 40 years. One of his most influential and popular movies was 1982’s Blade Runner. Now the sci-fi thriller set in a dystopian Los Angeles has finally gotten its long-awaited sequel with the release of Blade Runner 2049.

How did you interpret the ending of Blade Runner 2049? Let us know in the comments below!

— @Looper

Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 brings a neo-noir atmosphere to this beloved sci-fi tale and didn’t disappoint its loyal fans. But just like its predecessor, its ending is subject to interpretation. Great movies always have subtle but complex meanings, so here is an explanation of the ending of Blade Runner 2049.

#BladeRunner #Movie #Film

I kind of thought he was a wuss at the end. kind of standing there in a daze when really any guy would have jumped; like when Ana was about to be crushed. Or when Harrison was about to drown, annoyed me that he stood there and took it from Love also.

I can’t love this movie more. Absolute Perfection.

Harrison Ford was so good look in the original

@jflow5601
@

2:17 a reference to the human museum scene from the French sci-fi movie Immortel (Ad Vitam).

@

..still holding out for a Director's cut happy ending - with Joi and K driving off together into the (albeit radioactive) sunset !

@ginghamt.c.5973

Isnt there a huge logical inconsistency in the ending... Deckert and many others sacrifuced a lot in order to hide his daughter therby saving her from being "disected" and then at the end of the movie he casually meets up with her despite Tyrell corporation still being active? Isnt that basically a death sentence? 😅

It's a must to make a third movie to complete the trilogy

I never got all these sci-fi movie, first Interstellar and now this movie
I think I just wasted 3hrs of my life with this one "Blade runner"

@maskguy9700
@

This is quite wrong.
The unicorn scene in the first film proves Deckard is a replicant, confirmed by the fact a human couldn't survive where he lives in the second film

this movie was great

This movie was fire bruh

Staying true to character Harrison Ford “believes” Decker is human while his creator, Ridley Scott says he is a Replicant.

I had to watch this sequel a few times then it clicked - WATCH CAREFULLY..... the ending is 'K's' 'Tears in Rain' moment - he is mortally wounded - he opens his coat to reveal a huge hole...... then he lays back in the snow and closes his eyes - and dies - isnt it obvious? It is the 2049 version of the outstanding Rutger Hauers (Roy Batty's) death. There ya go!

The beauty of whether or not Deckard is a replicant is up to the viewer. I'm glad they kept it that way.

I never realized that the Nexus was a actual human. I thought they were half android. Literally 99% human. That's so interesting

@Sammydx1
@

Wouldn't ruin it

@Link7702

Love killed Joy. And in the process of K killing Love, he killed himself too.

This movie is art, memory reboot brought me here

Your opinion

@benquinneyiii7941

Wait wouldn’t deckord be dead if he was a replicant? In the first movie the replicants only lived up to 4 years

@mookiez18
@

Here's my explanation. The movie you just watched is stupid and you just wasted almost 3 hours watching it. I did too.

@tradingmedic
@

Still bullshit. Deckard in BR1 was unable to jump the gap, which - as a replicant - shouldn't have been a problem. Batty saved him because he valued life, which he wouldn't have had to do if Deckard was a machine. Want more? Both Choo and Sebastian instantly spot a replicant when they see one. Not so with Deckard. Furthermore: Replicants were forbidden on Earth - which goes for Deckard as well. Next: When the off voice introduces Nexus 6 as the latest development, Deckard was already retired, giving him more reason to worry about his own end date than Rachel's.

It was a very good movie. I'm glad they left it open for a part three. I like when he mentioned something about "off world"! The next movie will surely get my money! I'm also waiting for "Reddick" to make it back to his home world! He whipped the necromancers.😂😂

Just finished the movie. I don't understand how Ana is supposed to be the daughter when there was seriously zero hints dropped. In fact, the only time she appeared in front of K was just one scene.

@savagetothebones1642
@

Really want part 3

@jackiecrisco3439
@

It sucked.....
K saved and reunited dekerd with his daughter and does not even get a thank you. So no growth from anyone except K

@nosoupforyou425
@

It's replican, not replicant.

@daveg5857
@

Wallace is the Lucifer, Luv is mazekeen

@shaurya9260
@

Deckard was too weak to be a replicant. Pris, Leon, and Roy all easily kicked his ass ... He got a lucky victory in every situation.

@josephmeador1529
@

I didn't knew it was a sequel that's why i was scratching my head throughout the movie

@psk5849

2049 aint that far away.

Bruh they gotta bring joe back. That’s what made the movie so good

@dapuente8611

I love how people get in depth about it for me the ending was more there’s only every going to be one blade runner and that’s Harrison ford

@terryhall8915
@

the movie i watched that after 6 years i still got confused or just maybe im aging and becoming dumb 😅

@kinnethaparis1163
@

Wallace got away scot free didn't he? Going by the fight scenes and such Dekard had human strength and human emotions. How did it do at the box office? No word since on a new one.

@bkingofbeers
@

Thank god that Jared Leto was only in a few scenes
He could of ruined the movie

@ricky6258
@

I think Joe admitting he had implanted childhood memories but was never born a child, was a premature give away to the plot twist...

@svenkamog2232
@

Just watched the end of BR 2049, checking out a 3D projector I've had for over a year. Didn't know it was 3D capable. Wonder if Joy in the end is playing herself, body wise. Noticed the same music used in both Roy and K's (Joe's) death scenes. Nice touch. There was something different about Rachel#2. Deckard explained it. Great movie.

@jdastro
@

I've never been a fan of big budget film - but I thought this was a beautifully perceived piece of art with a deeply engrossing, provocative and interesting story. I found the film to be a touching tribute to the power of faith and love

@placidcasual9872
@

both of them are masterpiece sci-fi movies.....

@ACCOUNTANTB
@

It flopped in the box office, I doubt there will be 3rd movie anytime sooner, unless insane producers are willing to risk it again for the 3rd time since the first two films failed to make huge money. However, the third film will have more action since it is about a revolution so I think they could make it with more action to amuse the viewers and still be loyal to the previous movies.

@noonmoom9615
@

Answers are overrated, I like the ambiguity of this film and the original as well.

1) i have a question why does luv follows,spies especially a random bladerunner k

luv has more political,economical power to investigate the child,find out on her own doesnot need a single cop(k)

2) there were 3 times where luv could have killed him pretty easily ((((first)))) when k was injured when the scavengers were drone striked, ((((second)))) when k was with Deckard and he was unconscious and weak,k could have killed him pretty easily,((((third)))) when luv shoved a knife in k abdomen and fall down on the beach ,k could have killed him while he was weak.

3)why does a hoodie(the rebel member) wearing woman ask the call girls to find out who k was (as we know k is just a random replicant,and the rebel members knew from the start that the child was girl) ,why spy on k a random cop/replicant then? also why the rebel saves k and bring him to their haven and also to mention freysa didnot know that ana mistakenly put her backstory in k's mind
