I think it's way beyond Gen Z, this feeling was very prevalent when i was a kid back in the 1970s (when a lot of this type of architecture and insipid, phoned in corporate pop culture was first spreading all over the country)

Interesting analysis, however quite one sided and missing curtail information about the 80's and 90's, and also seams like its been prepared with a thesis in mind. It's not the 80's and 90's fault that we all are in such a doodoo. And as someone who was born in a communist country - you will pay way way higher taxes and get f-all in return - i can tell you it's not a fault of capitalism. Nor its a fault of technology. You know where the fault lies? In people who use position and tech to enrich themselves, regardless of the system. Those are the people who would tell you that there's no truth, because they benefit from your confusion.
And I was a teen in the late 90's and I remember it all vividly. Sure famous people where talking a bit out of their arse how simple it is to become a well known, because they wanted to be perceived as everyday folk, and people who had same ambitions believed that, lowering the overall skill level. But at those time not many predicted that human nature will be such a hindrance on the world later down the line, maybe those who where highly educated, but general folk had rather positive outlooks on to the future. Matrix came along and something happened - people started believing in relativism way more, and things started falling apart.
It's true that 2008 was an important date for scammers to gain power, but so what 11/07 earlier and then 2012 when everything as a service and people as a product started becoming a trend in digital businesses.
Solution is simple but hard to execute - in order for ambitious and talented people to be able to make a living and recover their dignity, quality of entertainment has to go up - and I mean quality of writing and story telling, not only presentation.
As for regular folk, got to bring back those factories back from China.

Considering you had put it in the section of re-appraising the past, one would consider you would talk about how the media brainwashed Americans into supporting a communist party taking over a country and then targeting and oppressing white people only for it to become the complete shithole it is today. It is seems you are still fully enclosed in the anti-colonialist propaganda the institutions are feeding you today. Wow this is a great example of how modern Gen-Z in America is so troubled by these problems manufactured by the media about things happening on the other side of the planet with no affect on them, yet still going into depression and feeling hopelessness about how the world is such a bad place. Hell, maybe all of the talking points in this video are manufactured problems out of a propaganda campaign of demoralisation, made so you can feel empathy and support for Palestinian psycopaths.

@lacedj51the part about a mix of desperation, nihilism and humor/irony reminds me of Dorohedoro, the manga and its spinoff/sequel Dai Dark exemplifies themes like that. A world that literaly runs on death and demonic powers, yet nobody acts shocked or appaled by it, its just normal, people deal in bones and skin, communicate with ancient evil on the daily, within a deeply hierarchical society that places powerful sorcerers at the top similar to a corporate structure, your place within it dictated almost entierly by the circumstances of your birth. Its been one of my favorite works of art, the world today feels increasingly violent and evil in a demonic way, but we just have to keep living it, making friends, going to work, just like in the manga which focuses majority on slice-of-life adventures of the main cast, instead of some grand theme or action (that does come later). Many people say that if the world started ending they wouldnt have time to care because they would still need to clock in to work, this kind of mental dissonance is everywhere in younger peoples art.
@kanjonojigoku8644i dont think future "art" focused on corporations, or govt, or politics etc will be noteworthy. what will be noteworthy will be art focused on the actions most of us go through. maybe what we need is more art concerned with doom scrolling, social isolation, the consequences of living in a society where everyone has a video camera, the affordability of life, things like that.
in addition, its erroneous to assume art can only accentuate the bad. theres plenty thats good for ppl living in modern industrialized society. theres plumbing, for example. thats just the start.

@roccocalabrese1507There's obviously more Gen Z musicians than Gen Z directors or game devs currently so I think a total analysis of Gen Z art themes is hard to fully comment on yet, but the examples you chose are a really great starting point. I'm interested what types of past art and media Gen Z will pull from for influence as well.
