There’s no MYTH: unless people are responsible to kidding themselves about one, not other people.
There ARE some high cyber security salaries and some pretty ordinary ones.
Then there’s the AVERAGE.
If anyone thinks they can get a six figure cyber salary WITHOUT a degree and with literally CERTS ONLY, they better be an absolutely frigging amazing SALESPERSON to sell THEMSELVES.
In MY opinion from watching probably DOZENS of cyber career/job market videos by now, what do I personally think is the REAL best combination for landing that handsomely paying cyber JOB?
In very simple terms, two main things:
1) actually having the proficiency ie ABILITY to do the job
2) THEN… being able to PROVE and demonstrate that.
How?
1) certs at MINIMUM
2) next up, hands on LABS AND PROJECTS such as TryHackMe/HackTheBox to START with but then beyond that, Forage with it’s VIRTUAL internship industry projects.
There’s probably also a lot of people who keep submitting poorly written résumés.

hello looking to get into Cyber Security can anybody point me in the right dereliction ?
@iconicfearYou've come a long way Grant! I remember watching your Intern videos when I was just starting out in the field. Another great video, context is key!
@Wangan_WAppreciate this video . Doesn’t over exaggerate but also doesn’t diminish the value of cyber security jobs .. Just a honest review , you’ll start off getting a good salary but to get a GREAT salary you’ll need to keep pursuing .
@robertnick5258The only reason we want a high paying job is because the people around us are not grateful enough for us…
We always have to add sparks and shines for no real reason…
Many people become “successful” just to find a nihilistic lesson at the center of it all/- nothing is guaranteed…
We can’t find any motivation to get involved and “do better” when we recognize how immoral the world has driven itself into regardless of how many “do betters” have been sold…
Many of these men who we look up to are divorced because they aren’t tall enough or something absolutely absurd and we regular guys are struggling to try and become “successful men” when it’s all dependent on financial status and that is completely separated from the s3xual aspect of life involving marriage and wanting a home…
I’m 24 and I’m struggling to just find a stable enough job to get back into college and try and get somewhere a little bit but I keep hurting my own self image and I can’t imagine myself in a successful place anymore because of certain other elements of knowledge regarding life that I have found out about and am absolutely in shock because of…
Me personally, I don't even need 6 figures to be comfortable and paying bills and even surprise ones included. $45-50k would make me a very happy camper and yet the average salary is really higher double digits than that which I'd be able to buy a house pretty easily for the first time.
@infini.tesimoIma tell you, 93k in Alabama is baller status.
You can pay for a nice house in 5-8 years.
Looking at this, I need to job hop. I'm an analyst level 2 and am only making 57k with 4 years experience.
@jordanbarnett9719Why are you griping over $10,000-$20,000 🤔 $70,000-$80,000 is still high paying versus so many other jobs
@mybetterfilmsWho can help me become a Cyber security and a secure job afterwards
@Bono-t1qI know two guys. One make $3,000 a month and the others guy make $5,000 a month
@dennisreynolds9202Schimmel Valleys
@ZimmermanEgbert-w3sYou do you and ima do me✌️✌️..
@JohnDoe-jr2pcWell you an get up there but it is fine to start up at 70k initially the experience and records of your success in the industry is what gets you better pay in salary
@LoneMaestro-If companies don't pay higher salary, its time to join the dark side.
@AsianVideoGamerEven so 70 to 80k income for a entry job isnt bad at all. Knowing that you could get to a 6 figure job woth more experience makes sense
@alexelpichiIS ANYONE FROM THE UK HERE THAT WORKS IN CYBER SECURITY? I WANT TO HERE FROM YOU SS I WANT TO SWITCH CAREERS ASAP!!!!
@EPICFUSEDI sooooooooo appreciate your honesty bro!!!!! You helped clear the water for me!!!!! Blessings 🙏🏾
@CharlesShockleyI like how you went with the motif of taking a stern, serious photo of yourself for the thumbnail to convey a serious sit down conversation where we are getting real with dad
@wightclaudiaanybody thinking that every professional in this industry starts on 6 figures, needs their head checked... having said that, the higher end, 5-figure salary is in no way, a bad thing
@MaticulousGamerits a shame i cant find anythin on the UK cybersecurity field ! if you can point me to anyone id be greatly appreciated , i still use you for info which is very helpful so thanks for that
@___m16For those aspiring to enter the field of Cybersecurity, it's important to know that it is not typically an entry-level industry, nor does it usually offer six-figure salaries at the start. Gaining relevant IT engineering experience and being open to moving between roles are key to breaking into cybersecurity engineering. Here is an outline of my career journey to provide some insight:
2018: Service Desk
2019: Systems Engineer (Hosted Infrastructure)
2020: Technical Consultant/Service Delivery
2021: Senior Systems Engineer (MS & Cloud Infra)
2022: Cybersecurity Solutions Specialist
2023: Cybersecurity Solutions Specialist
2024: Senior SecOps Engineer
Started on NZ$45k in 2018 & after 6 years, now getting close to about $120k.
Question: so even after a 4 yr degree in com science plus cyber security, one would need certs to be hired for a job ?
@Jen4DaWin_inChristJesusThis sounds like a job where u cant sleep 🛌 calmly at night ?
@conejafilosofaMost folks are not going to get into cyber security because they are passionate about it. Personally I think most folks should not get a job they are passionate about. (been there done that.) Focus on getting a job that aligns with your core values - for example, if you have a core value of "constant learning and growth" then this would probably be a good job to go for.
@RaeRaesRaveReviewsthe reality is people are focused on that median or starting salary and get scared but there is room for growth by job hopping every few years and growing your skills to achieve that 6 figure salary
@BigDaniel18salary will never make you rich .
@mohamedhasan318The ability to get a security clearance can help significantly
@BlueSuppositoryThank you for the useful video!
@bergholzJCBeen in cybersecurity for 20 years and most of the jobs even entry level were 150k+ But, the industry became saturated with amateurs who are now making videos saying a security engineer is a 50k position. You all are ruining the industry. You are choosing to take lowball offers. I'm now seeing CISO positions for 115k. You guys need to do research and reject lowball offers. I only accept min 200k jobs.
@TheMissHappenstanceBro cyber security is fucking depression, everyone who talks about cyber security seems like they are depressed 😔
@Stoicinfinity9999Went from 70k to 135k base by simply moving companies. Only had under 2 years exp. Same role too.
High paying roles are out there, you just have to look and take risk
70k in front of a computer is better and less stressful then 70k working construction any day of the week
@htune754Easy 6 figure jobs are a myth. Any 6 figure that's not incredibly physically or mentally taxing almost certainly has a high barrier of knowledge to get into. I've heard of GRC leaders who don't work a minute more than 40 hrs a week and have a pretty chill life making 160k+ but these people are around 10 years into their career and went through the fires of Gehenna to get where they are now
@Logan21590Salary sucks. Every job demands overtime.😂
@iwintheinternet28712:40 You said yourself that the average includes the entry level as well as highest levels.. of course that's true . But then in the next sentence you said that it doesn't include entry level.
@klkiley2922Hey! i'm just a 23 year old student in spain persuing cibersecurity and currently finishing my degree in telecommunications, i want to do a masters degree in ethical hacking. In 2 to 3 years i would want to move to USA for a better life, and to persue my passion for IT. Any recommendations for where should i go? cost of living, salariy and taxes .
@javierdiaz224I just want to learn how to run programs and make my own video games. I’m excited 😊
@armyoftwo134+ minutes of ads before your video would start. Your video did not get watched, because YouTube's video ads are too intrusive.
@maxtaf524Yeah yeah yeah... if they want their company secure, they're gonna pay me 😂
@TwiztOndaBeatThere more money being the hacker, so being the security engineer is the peasant class, consider that
