"The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Spirit" by Architects (THEIR WORST ALBUM YET?) | ALBUM REVIEW

Video Overview & Insights

Architects are back. Yippee.

I actually enjoyed For Those That Wish Exist quite a lot, but oh boy, wasn't this album total bland generic garbage......

"The Classic Symptoms Of A Broken Heart" by Architects

Released October 21st 2022 via Epitaph Records

For those who wish to exist was album of the year 2021. This record is just ass.

It might be a harsh thing to say but I feel like Tom would be rolling in his grave if he heard the new sound of Architects. Like damn all our gods have abandoned us and holy hell were miles and miles ahead in terms of sound compared to this dumpster fire. But honestly one of the best songwriters being dead (Tom) isn't the only reason they fell off in terms of sound. AOGHAU and Holy hell were the last songs that had Tom's amazing writing but I feel like architects wanted to hit mainstream buttrock or something after holy hell which was a major downgrade to their sound. I know what they're capable of, they used to be my favourite band but this garbage has to go or I'm not going to give their newer stuff a chance anymore.

I don't agree with any of this sentiment. I'm a big fan of the sound and the progress the band has made. Just my opinion.

I miss when Holy Hell came out :(

I understand your opinion and although I disagree with it. You were honest on how you felt on this album.

@sharing64tacos
@

normally I disagree with a lot of your takes but you nailed it on the head with this one. I can’t defend them anymore lol I couldn’t even get through the whole thing and they were one of my favorite metal bands at one point. What pisses me off is like we know what they’re capable of, Dan Searle has layed down some of my favorite drum tracks in the genre. In this album it sounds like they amputated his left foot before letting him step in the studio. Almost every song on this album is 4 on the floor and boring. They’ve fully embraced the Imagine Dragons-core trend and it’s so disappointing.

@benjaminlutz2850
@

It's too godamn much distortion of everything. Sucks. I fucking love this band. Hate this album.

@travisdelee8647
@

Agree with pretty much everything. It feels like they said ā€œbmth did it so we can tooā€

@itsWAHOO2012
@

I don't really listen to architects I've heard of one of their songs and imo they sound like a mediocre converge (mainly a meh version of Jane Doe era converge)

@obersine0367
@

if they change, they change. If something’s wrong, the fans’ll let them know and they will try to change it. It’s meant to be experimental and them trying new things. i give the album credit for the experimentation and the things they are trying. Yes, the songs sound the same. Yes, the lyrics are generic, but they have changed and it’s best to give new things a chance.

I kind of enjoy listening to the album but it is true I can't be bothered to give it an active listen. Everytime I tried, I got bored. It's fine as background music while I am doing something because it somehow flows nicely and doesn't command attention. However I am not actually sure whether it is a good or bad thing. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚

Fully agree with this review. The album acually comes across as very lazy and the band probably knows it.

@Crotes1990

To me the last great album from Architects is Holy Hell, with how they turned a painful tragedy into a heartbreaking and powerful album.

After this my opinion of their albums ranges to forgettable. This album is proof though that they are starting to get weaker.

I do think ending at Holy Hell would have been a great decision honestly.

This album is fire loved it it’s my second favorite

It sounds bad too, I mean the mix

"Aaron" Carter? 🤧

Let me guess on Architects next album. They completely turned into pop rock with influences from Maroon 5.

Watched some Fantano?

@Bajannez
@

Exactly right. That album is just an arena rock/butt rock snooze fiesta. Shame when bands go full boring. The meta of alt. metal influences is so boring to me. Good review.

I don't necessarily HATE this album (I really like the singles + the closer) but overall I was very uninterested by it. Other than "deep fake", "a new moral low ground", and "be very afraid" I probably won't come back to this.

Man I love sylosis

@ItsYaBoiMace
@

Wasn't bored with this and I do agree with the mentioned highlights you have with said album!

@rockmovieswithtyler1989
@

Yeah I don't even bother with architects anymore it's a shame

@NicRadGaming
@

If Sam would diversify his vocal delivery and melody then my listening experience would’ve been a lot better. Every chorus blends with each other on every track and it gets grating after the the first couple of songs.

It’s sad when you know what these guys are capable of and they go and put this out

@lukegeiger243

Architects are the new Asking Alexandria

@radicalgambino2959
@

Yeah, this just wasn’t good. I love Architects and this just wasn’t it. Can’t wait to see how angry the fanboys get on this one.

@lorddoritus
@

The worst part about this tragedy is Josh Middleton being wasted playing in this band.

@thomasmatijas2775
@

Yep, as a long time fan I can't even listen to this, it's just sad. Hard agree on this review, they're sucking corporate dick big time. Ruin, hollow crown, here and now and then LF/LT and all our gods are still great listens when I'm in the mood for them

@CornholeSpacedawg89
@

Guilty pleasure ? I like it…
I did cry about them not being aggressive anymore, but I can listen to this album when wanting to hear something more pop, since I hate actual pop…
And if I do feel the need, the new Lorna shore is out !
Of course, hollow crown, lost forever, holly hell are my favourites and really hard to top them !

Pure facts with this review

So many fantastic albums were released this month. This is not one of them.

Warning if you loved this album, you will hate what I have to say, if you liked it that’s cool

Yeah this is Easily the worst Imagine Dragons…… Wait I mean Architects album. Sorry about that Slip up this album almost put me back to sleep despite waking up just about 2 Hours ago. This shit is so boringšŸ„±šŸ˜“šŸ’¤ I needed some Metal Church and Napalm Death to help really wake me up from listening one of the worst albums of this year 0.5/5. Fuck this album.

@blackwaterrust476
@

I have no clue how a band goes from the highs of Holy Hell to this. 🤮🤮🤮

@justinstayner9692
@

I’ve been a fan of this band since Lost Forever / Lost Together. I appreciated the last album even though it was different, but I can’t stand by this one. It was a pain to get through, I found myself struggling with every single song, with the exception of ā€œBurn Down My Houseā€, the only song I could vibe with. Each song can’t tell what they wanted to be, and they feel longer than they actually are. I’m severely underwhelmed with this album, which is a damn shame because LF/LT, AOGHAU, Holy Hell and even FTTWTE were a great 4 hit combo in my opinion. This was a massive disappointment through and through. I was contemplating buying a physical copy of this album but after listening, I can’t spend money on this shit. Just a shit show all the way through.

@IndiscretionConfession
@

Skipped over every single song halfway through... Terrible!!! Toms brother needs to give up the writing because he's god awful and ruining this group. I can't even wear my AOGHAU and LTLF merch anymore...

@TheDesperado0022
@

I don't want to trash the band or anything (I appreciate every artist and think they should express their creativity in the way they find fitting), but given how popular/mainstream they are, I though the underwhelming impression I got after listening their singles had to be just due to my "inability" to "understand" the direction the modern metal is heading.. Now I'm glad is wasn't just me :)

@sasakanjuh7660
@

yknow i'm more experienced with film/show reviews but i completely get what you mean when you say its weird to think that architects older records are so much more creative. its like "what the hell happened over the years, surely you knew you were doing something right??"

@soapybsuds
@

What album would one recommend to get into Architects for the first time? I know their music kinda, but never listened to an album. Been a fan of Josh Middleton tho since WAY back in Sylosis days- 2008. I gravitate towards the heavier side of things, but get down with melody too.

@jakepayne2985
@

Im glad im not a fan of them so i dont have to give the record a try

@gabecarter3554
@

Never listened to a song from this band, and "Imagine Dragons core" definitely didn't sell me on them lol.

@BEastMortuary
@

I'm so excited about giving this a fat zero out of five

@DashieNegan41
@

How are you gonna have titles like ā€œBorn Again Pessimistā€ and ā€œA New Moral Low Groundā€ and not have them be heavy as hell?

@Nacnud92
@

They have talented people in the band. Josh Middleton joining the band should've made them better but somehow they got worse wasting his talent. At least we still have SYLOSIS

@reabec10
@

MiW, PWD, Architects,...mainstream metalcore is pretty weak this year.

@dachstheangry9735

Weird what popularity and promise of money do to creativity. Capitalism and good art are oil and water.
