The Brutal 10 Reasons You Will Instantly REGRET Moving to California

Video Overview & Insights

Thinking about moving to California? Before you pack the car, chase the sunshine, and convince yourself a $9 smoothie is just part of personal growth, you may want to hear the parts nobody puts in the relocation ads.

A 1% billionaires’ tax would buy a brand new home for every one of America’s 874,000 homeless.

— @tenminutetokyo2643

Well, that is what we give you on World According to Briggs. No BS!

California is still one of the most beautiful and opportunity-filled states in America, with beaches, mountains, redwoods, deserts, Hollywood, Silicon Valley, world-class food, national parks, and major job markets in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, and Orange County. But living in California is not always the dream people imagine.

I had to sign in so I could say this, YOU HIT EVERY SINGLE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!! Moved here from Atlanta. First stop was Arizona which wife and I didn't like. She lived here in Cali and braced me for impact. Worse decision of my life and I could write a book on all the reasons California is just not a real place. To each their own. I will say this placed cultured me despite thinking I was already since I'm from Atlanta. This place...ain't it buddy. Only saving grace that has saved me is the ocean is close to where we are.... just have to dodge the poop. Actually there is poop on the sidewalks...everywhere. I told myself I wouldn't write an essay but I know when it's time to count losses and regroup.

In this video, we break down the brutal reasons you may regret moving to California, including the high cost of living, expensive housing, rising rent, hidden fees, high taxes, insurance problems, homelessness, public safety concerns, bureaucracy, regional differences, wildfire risk, earthquake risk, and the pressure of living in one of the most competitive states in the country.

This is not just another list about California weather or traffic. We’re looking at the less obvious problems with living in California that surprise newcomers after they move. Whether you are thinking about moving to Los Angeles, moving to San Diego, relocating to the Bay Area, retiring in California, buying a home in California, or leaving another state for the California lifestyle, this video gives you a more realistic look at what life in California is actually like.

You need to be a high earner to live in most parts of CA comfortably. It starts with the lawmakers in Sacramento who create new laws every year to tax the citizens into oblivion. If Steve Hilton can somehow win the Governor race, these issues can start steering the ship away from the iceberg. The big cities need new direction. It is the best state in the US for various reasons but also one the worst if youre not ballin💵

— @kimitalwaajid6511

California can be an amazing place to live, but it is not easy. Before you move there, make sure you understand the real cost of living, the housing market, insurance issues, taxes, crime concerns, homelessness, disaster risks, and the daily lifestyle tradeoffs that come with living in the Golden State.

I've lived in CA for 26 years. I moved here because I had to. I think the politics is flakey as the rich snobby liberals inhabiting the state. I live in a modest double wide. I live a frugal semi retired life.

— @RandallBailey-w5m

Do you want to move to that perfect place?

Do you need a local Realtor for the area you want to move to?

Came to California in 86 from New York….40 years later I’m still here and not regretting it.the pros definitely outweigh the cons… beautiful weather great food, incredible wine, beautiful outdoor spots relatively safe. I don’t think there’s a lot of states that are better….

1st, my electricity is solar and they send me a check. 2 Waters cheaper than my Florida home 20yrs ago. 3 cost is only higher for gas, but im E85 $2.79 gal. Sales tax is same as TX and FL. My Florida and Texas places lost money, my cali places have made me $$. Makes 100k per year increase. My TX place won't sell, only low offers, tax and insurance went crazy. And I can't sell it. My last Cali place sold in under 30days. Bought for 850k sold 1.6m no other state will do that for you. Police in Florida would not leave me alone, I ride BMX, and in soCal im invisible to the popo. Legal weed costing Penny's compared to 80s prices. 70deg average year round weather. This guy's bunk bs making a diss.. is sad.. ive lived TX FL Ore and ended up coming back to Cali. I'll never ever leave again. U can't pay me enough. This guy's BS! Cali housing makes u money. Sells in under a day sometimes..but dont come stay away its terrible to have to ride my bike at the beach each and every day..

When people that live outside of California talk about California they’re talking about Los Angeles and San Francisco. The rest of the state gets ignored.

All of the above are true. California rewards long term home buyers with fixing your property tax to the rate you bought at. Buy a run down house in a good neighborhood and in 5 years, you’re sitting pretty.

Prop 13 benefits the older generations. Baby boomer mostly. What pretty much happens is they get a free ride on their property tax by todays home buyers due to property purchase price .

The only thing that is not available is the "BRAINS"
its a no brainer
Most folks plan and follow up

Moved from CA to Florida 10 years ago. Purchased a beautiful 3/3 2254 sq. ft. on a golf course for $215k on the east coast. I could never afford to retire in CA. I miss San Diego (north county), mountains, desert. etc. but not the cost.

@toddgriffiths9115

Your report is inexcusably incomplete. It does not represent the entire state. Yes, there are parts of California that are very expensive and you have selected them to be representitive of the entire state, such as LA and the San Francisco Bay areas. Why don't you do another video that accurately represents California as a whole, including the Central Valley and northern California, for example. Shame on you. Because of your distortion, I cannot believe that your reports on some of the other states are any more accurate and, therefore, won't be watching them.

My parents moved our family from New Jersey to California when I was 13. I have never felt like California was home for me. Cost of everything is out of control. My adult son and I have taken two trips to New Jersey in summer and winter and he loves it too so we are both moving there before the summer is over. I’m tired of brown grass and the same weather + or - a few degrees all year long. I miss the amazing summer rainstorms. I live in the San Diego area and our power company frequently shuts off our power if there is a bit of wind because they don’t want to be liable if their equipment starts a wildfire 😒. I know about the high property taxes in NJ but the pluses there far outweigh the cons compared to California. A cost of living calculator showed that it would be 20% cheaper for me. A lot of the people in California are fake. I could go on but this comment is already too long. Oh wait, one more thing, I ran into a young man from Jersey at the Costco gas station (even there, regular gas is a couple of pennies below $6). When I asked if he was planning to stay, he said he likes it but if he was ready to start a family, he would prefer New Jersey. I think that is a good call 🙂

I do not know anyone who has been to California and did not like it here. Everyone wants to live here - excellent weather, great foods, great schools and people from all over the world here, what's there not to like except for the cost and bureaucracy of the government? (He is SO TRUE about needing SO MUCH paperwork about just about everything. That's highly frustrating.)

I liked your post, but I’m old and single and ready to buy a grave. I like riding bicycle, reading the newspaper, and watching TV quietly. If that’s your idea of a rip roaring lifestyle then please move to California! You can ride bicycle everyday or not go out of your house for months. That’s the Best! Come to California.

Its actually easier to leave California then it is to come here. It’s competitive to live in California and if you don’t want to be here, step aside and let the next person in.

we have relatives in California. Their first house cost $800,000 over 20 years ago. It was a 2 bedroom. one bathroom, on a very small lot. Later, they purchased a house and converted the attached garage into a bedroom.

You just need to decide what’s important in your life. If you want to live and exist as cheaply as possible, then go live in Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas, or any one of those poor red states. But if you actually want to enjoy life go live in California. Sure you’re gonna pay a few more dollars but there’s a reason for that.

@bman6502
@

Just like you can stay at a motel six versus the Hyatt, but who wants to spend most of their life staying at motel six… you only have one life to live, so go live it in the most beautiful state in the nation.

@bman6502
@

I always find it funny that the number one reason people say you should not live in California is due to cost of living. However, there are over 40 million people living in California. And there’s a reason why people live in California versus 90% of those red states.

@bman6502
