THE BOXER - Powerful Hunting & Guard Dog

Video Overview & Insights

Today on Animal Watch I meet one of history’s most iconic and beloved dogs — the mighty Boxer.

Our boxer Brutus was the best babysitter for my two brother we youngest os six children my mother would put my brothers and I out in our fenced in backyard with Brutus and when we were starting to get into trouble he would bark intil my mother came to the back door to checkup on us she would catch us in the act and say good boy Brutus we can take him anywhere even on our camping trips we had 13 years of wonderful memories with brutus❤❤❤❤

— @ErinRockefeller

A direct descendant of the old German Bullenbeiser, the fearless hunting mastiff once used to tackle wild boar and deer, the Boxer still carries the power and athleticism of his ancestors. From Europe’s brutal era of bull-baiting, to his heroic service as a war dog in both World Wars, this breed has stood beside humans through some of history’s toughest chapters.

Yet for all that strength, he remains a joyful clown — a squishy-faced comedian with deep, soulful eyes and a bond so strong it feels ancient. He pretends to be silly… but underneath he’s clever, observant, and always ready to switch from playmate to protector in a heartbeat.

Im 65 years old. Ive had a boxer watching over me my whole life including the one im growing old with now. They were all special and irreplaceable. Ive got no complaints and so blessed by them. Love all my boxers!!!! Get one!

— @Mark-k7s3t

Typically **57–63 cm (22–25 in)** tall and **30–36 kg (66–80 lbs)**, the Boxer’s muscular, spring-loaded frame can knock you flying in excitement — and then melt into your lap as the gentlest family companion.

Yes, the Boxer has long been criticized for his shortened muzzle. But responsible breeders across the world are now reshaping the future of this breed — lengthening muzzles, improving breathing, and restoring the Boxer to the athletic, healthy dog he was always meant to be. And it’s working. The Boxer is making an astounding comeback.

They look so much better with their tails and ears

It's hilarious...
So many people are afraid of Boxers.
You're more likely to be licked to death then bitten.

The undershot jaw allows for the dog to keep a tight grip but leave the nose free to breathe and not mashed against what it is holding. It' seems strange to see all these Boxers with their tails, it is still very common in the US to dock the tail at a few weeks of age. Mine has a docked tail, but I didn't request it, I'd have been just as happy if the dog still had her tail. I had always been told that since the dogs were bred to work around cattle, the tail was docked to prevent it from being stepped on. I do not like the trimmed ears, thankfully the breeder of my dog didn't either. I keep mine on a leash or long lead any time we are out of the fenced yard, even if I am in our pasture. As obedient as she is, if she sees something to chase or investigate there is no stopping her from running after it and they can have a very intense focus. Chloe, my female, bounds like a rabbit in a full run and is incredibly quick. Chloe is all that is described here, funny, playful, smart, loyal and very affectionate. I'll never have another breed. They do demand attention and need exercise so be prepared.

I had to babysit 2 boxers for just a day, but what a day that was. Plenty of running, kisses, playing and cuddling, I was absolutely exhausted at the end of the day, but with the widest grin on my face I ever had.

The description of a boxer says that he is not vocal.....Mine boxer (rare German working line) does not growl even when he has to fight (from defense)...the attack is fearless, silent and very heavy. The only time he barks is when I have to get him a ball that went under the bed, or when he finds a hedgehog and that is literally wof wof communication...as well as a discreet growl when we meet someone who is under the influence of PAS. When you raise them properly...they are the best dogs in the world...100% obedient, very loyal and that is why their heart shouldn't be broken by changing owners every now and then. Cheerful, full of life (always on guard but not nervous)...ANGELS IN DISGUISE....AM THE ONE WHO IS....when you touch them ...nothing else exists except ....NOW.❤

Boxers, especially European Boxers are great dogs!
However, allowing any dog to jump on people is rude behavior and should be corrected ASAP.

HUNTING??? Where do you get your knowledge from? From D. Trump?... and noone takes a Boxer for reason of protection. Even triggerhappy weapon-freaky Americans buy Pitbulls to kill other humans.

Boxers are the dog version of Muhammad Ali. Smart, funny, charismatic, stubborn, light on their feet and deadly accurate with them hands.

Boxers in America look more lanky and lean and use their front paws like they're boxing. These dogs look like a boxer and an American bulldog mix.

While travelling in France, we often experience how much Boxers are appreciated there, too. Wherever in public, Boxers are good "contact-makers". Quite a few Boxer stories have accumulated since. Some hilarious, some thrilling, some moving, but all of them positive. There are dogs - and there are Boxers...
