The Bombing of Pan Am 103 | Official Trailer | Netflix

Did Colin Firth did a similar tv show?

— @jordanwernet3961

https://www.youtube.com/@Netflix

There’s been at least 3 shows in succession on this tragedy. 1 is a documentary called Lockerbie, a follow-up called a return to Lockerbie, another a drama series starring Colin Firth : Lockerbie (May 2025), now this one. And I believe there’s at least 1 or 2more. At what point do we start calling crime docs capitalising on a tragedy?

The series Lockerbie: The Search for Truth with Colin Firth playing Jim Swire, whose daughter was a victim on board Pan Am 103, is a more compelling series about Lockerbie.

Spoilers,

Only one fall guy was ever convicted for this bombing and he was released early. Our government in action.

Forgive me for being insensitive here. The investigation of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 concluded that airport security and Pan Am failed to learn many of the lessons of the bombing of Air India Flight 182.

I was 20, just moved to Glasgow. The Hilton hotel organised company tables for Christmas meals and a year later the rescuers were at the table next to our company. Just needed a night out together. What they had to do must have been traumatising for a long time afterwards.

A devastating tragedy no doubt. But just 3 years earlier on 23 June 1985, an Air India airliner was similarly bombed and hundreds of innocents died. It would have been two aircraft on the same day except that the other bomb exploded on the ground at Tokyo airport killing a cargo handler. While the PanAm victims are rightly mourned, the Air India tragedy barely registers in western consciousness. The callous response of Canadian Intelligence and law enforcement to repeated Indian warnings and the brazen glorification of the incident by Khalistani terrorists from Canadian soil is unforgiveable. The way Canadian investigators botched the probe and scuttled evidence reeks of political patronage and probably qualifies Canada as a state sponsor of terrorism. These were not lesser human beings just because they were brown skinned Indians. They deserve their story to be told. Hope Netflix will bring an honest version of that to the world too someday.

I predict they will lean into the Iran angle in this one. We'll see.

I read somewhere during my deep dive to this story was that the bomb was supposed to explode over the Atlantic, however, because the flight was delayed, it exploded over the town.

Iran ordered Libya to conduct the bombing. They paid for the bomb and provided information on how to build it, this was in retaliation for the shooting down of the Iranian airbus by the USS Vincennes. The Iran Iraq war had just ended recently and Iran was mad at the U.S. For playing both sides. It's not widely known but the U.S. did sell weapons to Iran during the war but was on and off for most of it. Iran used different techniques to get the shipments to resume like threatening oil shipments and bombings in Europe. Using proxies like the Libyans.

I also recommend the play The Women of Lockerbie. It's about this event, though it's taking a factual event and creating a fiction narrative. Still incredible.

Why did they shoot it to look like an episode of doctor who?

@user-vv9lr2rw5d
@

Erm, didn't they make the SAME series last year? It starred Colin Firth and it was brilliant. So now they're waiting just 12-18 months before doing remakes? And just as a side-bar, this trailer had some pretty questionsble American accents. 🤔

They still don't know who did it........

Muammar Gaddafi supported the terrorists who did this. May he rot in a very hot place in the afterlife.

Every European intelligence knew that Syria's Assad regime was responsible for this attack... but the US insisted on blaming Gaddafi !!
