The Altimeter That Cut the Engines โ Turkish Airlines 1951
Video Overview & Insights
Turkish Airlines 1951, a Boeing 737-800 approaching Amsterdam Schiphol, lost power when a faulty radio altimeter idled the autothrottle.
It's very upsetting that this block of ads is being interrupted by some airplane crash documentary

There are so many of these videos which claim the aircraft is state-of-the- art, and then it turns out something really basic was the root cause of the accident. Too many bells and whistles and not enough basic passenger jet safety essentials.

John nance described QANTAS 72 to a tee. โWhen the flight computers go berserk, what do we do?โ Kevin Sullivan shares the same sentiment. I also believe that humans should work with computers in the cockpit, so when the computers malfunction, the pilot can take over control. ๐

Boeing not caring about pilots reporting safety issues is a tradition.

Boeing has become a corrupt company full of lies and excuses....they might be American.
@michaellowe5980Why is the sign for the Dutch Safety Board in English?
@MegaFortinbras8:41๐ I can never stop laughing at the sign on the wall. Even if the name of the Dutch Safety Board was "The Dutch Safety Board", it wouldn't be called that way locally, it would be named in Dutch. So the signs wouldn't be like that either way. If they would have named it accurately, the sign would say: "Onderzoeksraad voor de Veiligheid," "Inspectie Leefomgeving & Transport," "CAA-NL," or "Rijks Luchtvaart Dienst."
Also, the cockpit interior isn't anything like a 737 cockpit. A 737 cockpit is about as spacious as a doghouse irl.
20:30 And that's not a 737. The 737 does not have body gear doors, nor does it have 12 main landing gear wheels. The 737 only has 4 main landing gear wheels. That's a Boeing 777.
THE 737-800 DIDNT HAVE EYEBROW WINDOWS IN THE COCKPIT
@lancelevisee9091Thats why I never fly boeing. Will always will brush off their criminal acitivity.
@Onlyviews12Literally just watched the same episode 3x times under different titles. Very annoying
@CK-J16I guess FO was the PF, so Autopilot B was engaged. But the RA on captain side was not working.
@gokhanyilmaz3031On real life the nose is broken. But in animation is not broken. The boeing 737-800 don't have eyebrows.
@Mr.AustrlaF BOEING
@smart_investatypical Boeing, if no life is taken it's "no problem"
@breakhartRest in peaces ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐๐
@ฮ ฮตฮปฮฑฯฮณฯฯ-ฮถ7ฮพOld war planes still fly because they have more mechanical gadget ans alot fewer electronic junk
@LLBlackhawk-mc3sqNo problem it is Boeing aircraft so it's pilot mistake.
@unknowntor7389How to survive a plane crash step one if you see the mayday air disaster crew boarding dont board
@PayLaklakaGive automation to Boeing, and theyโll still find a way to screw it up. The pilots were distracted โ the plane should have warned them before it was too late. It shouldโve issued an audible โAirspeed too slowโ alert; that alone couldโve made them notice the throttles were set to idle.
At the end of the day, the kind of pilot who chooses to fly a Boeing often struggles with technology anyway. Airbus is far more sophisticated โ and safer. You can blame the pilot or the tech all you want, but that wonโt fix Boeingโs real problem: Boeing itself.
They keep making cheap knockoffs of everything, then ignore safety complaints until a plane crashes and hundreds of lives are lost. And every time, the NTSB steps in to clean up their mess and bail them out โ so the same accidents keep happening, and nothing ever gets fixed.
The worst aircraft manufacturer in aviation history is Boeing. Heck, this old MD-11 was flying perfectly fine even after 30 years of service. How many Boeings can last that long? Why was McDonnell Douglas better? Because the NTSB never covered up for them โ they had to face the consequences every time. And thatโs why, even decades later, their planes ended up being safer than Boeingโs.
๐ข๐ข๐ข.
It was deadly plane crash.
Cockpit is in great condition, how could the all be dead?
@koekiemonster-xq7ymhow did the engine didn t burst into flames did they dumped fuel or smt
@ashtanu2421its because they put gear a lil to early which made plane stall mysterly
@TyrellAurelis-b7cFly the jet.
@sharpartstudioAre the girls ever allowed to talk in these videos? Maybe they could at least say something like "would you like coffee".
@jedmorris7196The pilots donโt look like Turkish at all
@Esen-s1nOnly 9 died the others survived unusual for a plane crash. Rip captains.
@hangingaroundtrInteresting how these reproductions are produced, what is that 'blonde bombshell' doing hanging around the table of investigators? The camera continually focuses on her throughout the documentary? Why is this video trying to draw the viewers attention to someone who has little to no importance or relevance to the investigation? Is this just a game being played here by the producers to mess with the viewer for some odd or perverse reason? Strongly suggest you reduce the added entertainment and stick to the purpose, i.e., the investigation!
@richardnailhistorical3445even a third pilot disregards a warning alarm!!!
@ln6455FMR Boeing Vice President, Gordon Bethune: "Look out of that damn window if you want to!"
๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ผ๐คฒ๐ผ
That is NOT about people, who can't understand [cryptic] signaling, but about invalid hardware and software, and irresponsible plane manufactures, who makes dirty shortcurts, and hides them (don't document, gives false severity for critical malfunctions)
Software do not validate inputs (doesn't alarm about them and does not abort operation), but continue making invalid control commands. In best case it generates number of cryptic third system alarms, that have nothing common with initial malfunction, thus you need to be genius engineer to understand the issue in real-time.
So, Boeing knew, that left altimeter is critical for auto-throttle, but did not state that in manuals, and still consider left altimeter malfunction as minor !
And why auto-throttle doesn't abort having obvious invalid altimeter data input in first place ?
That should be the very first function of the software - continous input validation. How negative radio altitude value could be considered valid in flight ?!
Boing puts another pos in the air and the pilots get blamed. And our president flies in one of their junk piles. Great!
@robertcrawford2949changing colors but no audible alarm? really?
@justforfun5391leva lol
@thedisabledwelshman9266Its of clear mistake of Boeing
@chefsaga13923 "pilots" looking at the instruments and not realizing the speed was too low. the Darwinism at work, i guess
@alexcralov1722Too many cooks spoil the broth.
@philfluther2713Can anyone tell me what this episode is called?
