I have used numbers for years (actually decades). I needed to learn about Charts within numbers. If I had set up tables instead a bunch of stuff on a sheet; and knew how headers and footer worked, making a chart would have been a piece of cake. Thank you.

00:00 Intro

00:34 1. The Importance of Tables

I’m used to the giant spreadsheet of Excel, Google Sheets, Libre Office Calc, etc. At 1st I was really frustrated by Numbers. Once I learned Headers and Footers, now titles I have simpler, easy to read tables for my spending, saving, bicycling mileage, etc. As you say it teaches table building. Thanks

01:29 2. The Importance of Rows

02:11 3. The Importance of Headers and Footers

Thanks Gary! Great information.

06:26 6. How To Filter Rows In Tables

07:23 7. Looking Up Functions

Can I do a search for what I wrote in comments? ie want to find out when I purchased an expense in a 2021 expense sheet. TIA

If this is for beginners, you need to rethink how beginners learn. Also, why must you be hyperactive with the curser, it makes things very confusing and distracting

Quite honestly, I found your explanations much clearer than the guide furnished with Numbers. Numbers is not exactly intuitive, either.

Does numbers have a traverse function (like excel does)? If so, how to activate it ? Thx

How can I copy the text of a comment from someone else on Apple Numbers on iPhone ? Text can be selected only if it's my own comment

Perfect first start video. This is the video I needed coming from Excel knowing where and how things work but needed a quick video of how things work and where they are in Numbers.

Switched to Numbers when my Excel license ran out. Numbers is so much better! And those tips are killer Gary. Thank you!

hi gary 👋🏽 , lets say i am in a cell in a table in numbers and want to start a new line within the same cell, how do I do that? In google sheets it's control + enter, what about in numbers? thank you

Hi Gary
If I sort a table that has a sum formula, when I move a row to a different order, the formula does not automatically change to fit the new order.

What could i be missing?

So if I move a row up or down then the sum formula cell gets all screwed up. I want to use a running total.

Gary, your Numbers videos are a lifesaver! I've learned some great tricks from you but I've got a question I've really hit a wall with:
If you have two separate tables containing similar types of data—each table includes dates that overlap with the other—how can you combine both into one single, vertically-stacked table, so that all dates and data points are merged into a unified dataset that can then be analyzed using a pivot table?

@catdog12387

Thank you for the lesson. Im having fun exploring Numbers.

Gary, could you recommend a good book on using numbers? Not just a beginner book. Thank you.

Hi Gary, Not sure how to ask this question but what I want to do on my MAC Numbers is swap data in a column without loosing any of the data in each cell. For instance if I had a column with numers 1-10 as we go down, I want to move 8 to the 2 cell by draging it to the 2 cell and now the 2 would have an 8 in it and the old 8 cell would have a 2 in it. Can you do this? Thank you for everything!

Hoping you can help me. I’m trying to just move from one cell to the next on my ipad in a table without having to actually click on each cell. In Excel I just hit the tab button and it would move. I can’t find how to do that in numbers. Can you help me?

Sorry, but as an ex teacher, you’re doing a bad job. Going too fast and clicking on things without explaining. You’re doing it from your experience not your audience’s. SLOW DOWN!

Trying to use Numbers/ Pages so I can stop paying though the nose for Microsoft subscription..Numbers seems so weird with so many basics are hard to find, like how to change borders or add cells that are automatically included in the sum. I'll give it a few hours to try to learn these different ways of thinking but maybe it's just gonna be worth paying for what I've spent years knowing how to work with, Sigh.

thanks Gary . quick question... when i use command F to search something on numbers, I would always fail finding it if I did not put a capital letter in the beginning of the word if the word has a capital in the beginning to. Example if I am looking for the word "Arrive" in a numbers document, I would not find it if I searched "arrive" due to the capital . In pages this is not an issue. can you help please ? kevin x

I’ve been using iPhones since iPhone 3 and the iPad when it was introduced
I never knew what a powerful tool I had and all the money wasted on M/s office 😡
Now I can keep track of my Wargames and passably show other players what they’ve won or last even during a game.
I can produce and record like dBase II and produce reports I hope!!!

Thanks for your tutorial. I'm a creative and admittedly a bit math/spreadsheet challenged. I was doing really well using my newly created spread sheet when all of the sudden I couldn't get the thing to calculate. I have no idea what I could have done and am growing more and more frustrated. Any suggestions would be terrific.

Greetings 😀
I created a table with five fields, date, comment, income, expenditure, total. The idea was to first enter the current account balance (E2) in the fifth field, and then to automatically summarize fields C3 as income and D3 as expenditure, the total account that will be displayed in column E.

But when I entered the formula in E3 (=E2+C3-D2) it also showed me the result of the current state. then I selected the array fields to automatically apply the formula, but the results of the current state also appeared.

If I try to delete the number in the cell, it does not allow, I can only delete the formula.

How can I copy only the formula, so that the fields remain empty in column E?
